The student loan debt I stated are the Federal loans IINM. Nothing capitalist about that. The government guarantees the loans, and gives them to everyone, credit worthy or not.

Yep. Student loans are better than the mortgages given to everyone despite ability to pay because they are guaranteed and you can not escape them, even in bankruptcy.

There you go. College loans and college costs exploded after the federal government stepped in and guaranteed the loans. Now the colleges can charge what ever they want without competition, and the government will pay them. If you recall, housing prices exploded after the government got involved and made sure anyone could get a home loan, no matter their ability to pay it back. LOL How did that work out again.... Oh yeah we had a great recession while many companies were saving billions on corporate welfare and tax loopholes and holding on to their tax sheltered cash surplus while laying off over 150mil tax paying middle class employees that pay a higher percentage on income then they do.

No thanks been there done that. Time for a flat tax on all personal and corp income. Everyone pays the same % on income. Until then nothing will be fair when it comes to taxes.

Had an old friend from HS unfriend me on FB today. He posted last night, "Since Trump is no longer in the lead and his support is waning, I think he will drop out. He will take his toys and go home."

to which I responded, "If Bernie Sanders support starts to drop, does that mean he will take somebody else's toys and go home?"

He no longer shows up on my friends list. rofl

Yup by the very same congress that's been in control for years now. The very same congress that is against helping it's own people but willing to spend billions on waging wars in oil rich countries.

A little more revisionist history, huh? The loans were guaranteed as part of obummercare, when the dems owned both houses of congress and the white house. Oddly enough, they didn't use those majorities to keep their other promises, like immigration reform.

You get that passed - where EVERY single person pays the same percentage, I'll vote for you. The caveat though, would be that EVERY person that makes money, pays the same percentage.

I second that - I don't agree with Perfect's political views often, but I am all about a flat tax on every person and business!!!!

Would it? If everyone paid something I think it would even out. It would be nice if everyone had some skin in the game. I'm sure the numbers could be shown to be bad and good based on who is making them.

I'm more about www.fairtax.org but a flat tax is fine with me too.

I'm all for overhauling the tax system but this method is not equitable.

Poor guy makes $30K a year, spends $30K a year. Pays taxes on $30K a year.

Rich guy makes $2 million a year, spends $300K a year. Pays taxes on $300K a year.

So the government is bringing in more off the rich guy but by percentage, rich guy is paying significantly less in taxes than poor guy... because the richer you are, the less of your income you spend.

I like the idea of a flat tax, but I, like you, see holes in the plan.

What's the flat tax going to be? 10%.. Nice for a person that makes 30 to 50k, but really, for a person that makes 250k+ man,, that's just time to be happy happy.

What actually makes sense is a graduated flat tax. Meaning no more deductions so they must pay that amount.

For instance, maybe 20k or less, no fed tax. 20k to 60k maybe 10%. 60,000.01 to 120k might be 15% and so on.

Just an example. But I think if you get the numbers/percentages mixed right, it's a tax savings for everyone and way simpler and may not reduce income for country. The mix has to be right and frankly, I'm not sure how to arrive at that.

Given the simple nature of it, we can cut jobs at the IRS big time. Lots of savings to be had there.

I don't think anybody should be 0. I don't care if you are a kid that makes $5000 a year at a part time job, you should still pay something. Make it 1-2%, but something.

Second, the reason this will never happen, is because politicians need the tax code to buy votes. We are going to increase the EIC to buy that segment's votes, we are going to reduce capital gains to buy that segment's votes, we are going to implement the AMT to buy some votes. In the end, they buy a ton of votes and nobody really knows how much they pay or how much anybody else is paying. I love your simplified system, then the only tax discussion to have during a debate would be, we want to raise the upper level from 20% to 22%.. done. Even a moron could do the math and figure out if that affects them or not and how they want to vote on it.

I'd rather get rid of income tax completely and just follow the constitution by just taxing sales and charging tariffs.

Except that almost all illegal immigrants do pay taxes - and unlike legal workers, they don't get any tax refunds come April. According to the non-Partisan ITEP, undocumented workers paid almost 12 Billion in state and local taxes in 2012.

http://www.itep.org/immigration/

Some worthwhile findings:

"Undocumented immigrants’ nationwide average
effective state and local tax rate (the share of income they pay in state and local taxes) in 2012 is
an estimated 8 percent. To put this in perspective, the top 1 percent of taxpayers pay an average
nationwide effective tax rate of just 5.4 percent."

Illegal immigrants are also a chief component in keeping social security afloat. Over the last decade, illegal immigrants have paid $100B into social security, even though they are ineligible to collect on it:

http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/20/news/economy/immigration-myths/

The Congressional Budget office estimated that the 2013 comprehensive immigration reform bill would have saved the US $197B over 10 years:

http://www.taxjusticeblog.org/archive/2015/08/what_trump_gets_all_wrong_abou.php

"The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the 2013 Senate comprehensive immigration reform bill would have decreased the deficit by $197 billion over ten years, as newly legal immigrants would pay $459 billion in additional taxes, while the increased government expenditures for benefits would only increase by $262 billion."

Explain to me how a person lacking documentation is on payroll anywhere. If they don't have the multiple forms of ID, then they cannot work legally.

Also .... if illegals are already paying taxes, and getting no refunds ... then how would they suddenly pay more in taxes?

1% on $5000 is $50.
The government would spend more than $50 in collecting and processing and actually end up losing money.

Another issue is corporate tax reform.

My personal feeling is that there should be significant tax breaks for American companies. But what we need to do is make the definition of an American company significantly stricter.

1st - obviously corporate headquarters needs to be with-in the US.

2nd - you need to have 80% (or whatever the economists say is needed) of all your employees working in the US - This stimulates the economy and creates jobs.

3rd - you need to have 80% (see economist comment above) of all salaries paid to US residents with a US address. Keep the money in the US. Generates tax revenue and stops giving our money to other countries.

Doing this keeps jobs and money in the US. No company with the majority of their factories in Mexico or elsewhere should be considered an American company and they should not get any benefits from our government.

No the gov't. wouldn't lose. It would be taken out of your payroll. Just like it is for you and me.

Oh, the person might not be on a payroll? Fine the company that paid them: fine them for the taxes, fine them for the late fees, and put them out of business for illegal hiring, paying, and hiding. Problem solved. (and there'd be a lot of illegals leaving the country as well since they wouldn't be able to scam. JMO)

In many states you can file their income taxes with a SSN# 000-00-0000 in order to keep them in the system.

Because many are paid under the table (as you just noted above) - and less it would be if they could legally work. It's not as big a number as you expect, most illegal immigrants do pay state/local taxes (as noted in the first link).

It seems like your two arguments contradict each other...

I know I am biased because I think all Republicans are idiots these days, but I struggle to understand how their message is SO appealing to so many that work for a living. They in no way represent the working class and have not for years.

I understand the arguments of smaller government, free markets, and deregulation; but would counter that government has not shrunk but grown regardless of who is in office, free markets are fine until the medicine (or anything else) you depend on gets jacked up 5000% overnight, and deregulation is good but you have to enforce COMMON SENSE AND DECENCY somehow!

Kicking out the Mexicans is going to hurt much more than help, IMHO. And I would rather have a Mexican neighbor / co-worker than some dimwit that thinks he's tough because he walks around with his pants down all day. I also openly have little regard for Muslims and their religion BECAUSE I do not agree with their culture and religion, not because I don't see them as human; but I do not like to see them victimized in the US because of the hatred for the idiots overseas.

There was also a point in my life that I was openly racist. I said and did many things that were not cool at all; but I have grown and matured as a person and see that the hate (root) of racism only breeds more hate and pain. I think the GOP base is predominantly racist; breeding divides, hate and pain seems to be a GOP party goal. I can not understand how any minority, free thinker, and or non-racist person could vote for a candidate from this party.

I think each and every GOP candidate serves the elite (super rich) and ONLY the elite. Everything else is lip service because their records and actions tell me much more than what comes from there mouths. Trump is obviously self serving and the others are elite boot-lickers; Carson is probably the only wild card here because he serves his faith more than anything else; I think he is a certifiable nut job! Not sure how anyone can't see this guy is not tightly wrapped, unless you are just blind with hate.

I don't care for any religion, especially religion in politics, and Carson is the poster boy for that line of thought! He doesn't think a Muslim should be President and although I agree with that statement on the merits of "religious fanatics should not run countries", I can't see him as anything but a religious fanatic either, so pot meet kettle IMHO. He is also the dumbest smart guy I've ever listened to!

I honestly think Marco Rubio, with his flaws is by far the best candidate the Republicans have based on the statements made and actions taken. I think he is the least likely to do harm, but then again he is a Republican. wink

Just my two cents.

Give us your two cents on sanctuary cities.

My opinion on Sanctuary cities is the same as on cities that allow legal weed. The city knows it's needs best, then the State, then the Fed with exception to human rights and equality issues.

I think health care is a basic right, everyone should have access to affordable healthcare and be provided healthcare if they can not afford it (that's the decent and morally correct way to think about that, IMO).

I think everyone should have the right to work if they so desire. Working to earn money to provide for yourself and family should never be against the law.

I think issuing ID's to all is not only reasonable but smart. I think issuing IDs to the undocumented should be required and I will explain why below.

I think freely registered undocumented people should be put into a system that does security checks and histories (time in country, kids born here, criminal records, education and work history/qualifications, health, asylum/refugee status review), and then based on a score and human (humane) review of each situation a determination to deport or to place in a legal immigration status should be rendered on a case by case basis. Additionally the willingness to register, get state IDs and go through this process should be rewarded with a relatively simple path to citizenship for those that qualify and comply. A predetermined period of time should be allotted (maybe 5 years) to process the current population of illegal immigrants when we start this process.

During this period of time, illegals entering the country after the law and policy take effect, but before the period has passed should be treated much less lenient than those that have been here for years, preferably deported and made to enter legally unless very good cause to justify being granted legal status.

After the time period has passed any and all undocumented "illegal" immigrants should be immediately deported. Any illegal immigrant that is newly arrived or has dodged this verification process should be deported upon discovery and anyone employing, providing housing or shelter to said immigrants should be severely punished.

A program with an approach like this is a win win for everyone. The undesirables will weed themselves out, the work force will see little ill effect, illegals will start paying their taxes, and we can control the situation better (the immigrant communities should feel fairly treated and become more self policing).

That's my 2 cents on that... The only improvement I can imagine would be to start a deportation process for stupid people.
