Trying to think of fun games to take camping. Right now we have Backgammon, Yahtzee, Uno, 2 decks playing cards, Cornhole and Bocce. What are some of your favorite games?

How about yard darts...kind of dangerous but loads of fun!!!!!!! But if you're going camping take the fishing poles and hope the campground has horse-shoes, those are always fun things to do camping, also take the magnetic chessboard or cards in case it rains and you're trapped in the tent most of the weekend!!! have fun and good luck

Croquet. Ain't nothing quite like catching one of your opponents about to win and sending them to the far reaches of the yard LOL...

Personally, I like games of strategy like Risk. The one i am hooked on now is Settlers of Catan, easy to learn and the game board changes every time you play.

Ah...Rook...just pulled it out last night and it's in my pile to add to the camper. Wonder if they make a Croquet set that is light? My Grandmother and I played a lot when I was a kid. She always kicked my ass.

Settlers is a great game! I've got a few friends I play with regularly. Screw Your Neighbor is good too. I just recently discovered a card game called Quiddler that's lots of fun - it's kind of a cross between gin rummy and scrabble.

btw, what is hillbilly golf?

Trivia games. If you're in a camper with a dvd player, the ESPN trivia game is great. I think it's called "Sports Scene It" or something like that. It's challenging, but you don't have to be "The Schwab" to be good at it.

Cranium is great. I also think telling of Jules mishap stories would be a lot of fun too. I can't imagine how many stories her mom has to tell.

That's what WE call it, and I can't think of what else it's called.

I made my own, with pvc pipe. There's a "frame" if you will, at each end. 3 rungs, from bottom to top. (bottom one is about 18 to 24 inches off the ground.) Then, I took golf balls, drilled a hole through the middle, and took a 15 inch piece of rope, knotted each end (after running them through the balls).

I made 6 "bolos". (you know, the things that people used to throw to wrap around others legs, knock them down?)

Set the frames/ladders about 30 to 40 ft. apart. Toss the balls. Top rung is 1 point, middle is 2, bottom is 3 points. You toss, then your opponent. If he/she hits what you hit, it cancels out your points.

Ex. You hit a 1 ptr, a 2 ptr, and a 3 ptr, but your opponent hits a 1 and a 3, you get 2 points, and they get none. (because their 1 ptr. cancelled your 1 ptr., and their 3 cancelled your 3. - if you hit 3 1 ptrs, and they hit one, you'd still get 2 points)

Someone help me out, what else is it called? We first saw it at Bristol, I made one for the next year and it worked great then, and the following year, but then my wife saw it for sale at a store and she had to have the "official" looking one.

I don't know if it would classify as a "yard game" as much as a "barn game", but we used to have corncob fights when I was a kid. I grew up on a very large farm in Medina County. We had a big barn that had an upper & lower level of hay mounds. We'd hide behind the hay and throw corncobs..some dry, some wet & some still had hardened kernels of corn on them. When you would get him by one of the cobs with corn on it or a wet one, it would hurt like a mother. Not the smartest game around, but when you grow up on a farm, you create amusement.

Growing up in the neighborhood that I did, we'd play all sorts of "Hide n Seek" type games with all the kids int he neighborhood. A favorite of the neightborhood was Hot Tail Charlie. Every bit as painful as the corncob fights.

We'd hide a belt somewhere in someone's yard. The object was to be the first to find it. If you did, you grabbed it, yelled "Hot Tail Charlie" and start running after the others playing with you. If you had the belt, you were supposed to try and whip people with it before they hit "Home Base". Last person to home got an extra whip of the belt. The person who found it got to hide it the next time and was safe from any whipping in the next round.

Ahhh...good times....good times!

Sorry. Too many blows to the head from corncobs. Maybe wiffleball or flag/touch football?

Is there a lake or a pond or anything nearby? If so, you can't go wrong with bringing some fishing poles along

Ok, seriously though: My family plays a board game called Taboo and for cards, it's usually Euchre.

I also enjoy a card game called BS. Cannot link there is some profanity to it. Will PM a link to the rules though.

We used to play Taboo on camping trips when I was younger and we couldn't go out because of rain. For the life of me, I can't remember how it's played, but I do remember it being fun lol .

I've always like Monopoly... but probably not something you'll have enough time to play while camping, unless it rains for a whole day.

Who all will be playing the games? Kids? Just adults?
