I agree, Mac. Is Haslam really that stupid? I know football is a business, but if it's run strictly like a business then all the Browns will be doing is drafting players and selling/trading them off every few years. There has to be a solid product on the field or the business will suffer at some point.

I know it didn't work with Holmgren, but we definitely need someone with a football background to oversee the football side of the operation: a Parcells type, a Cowher type. The type of guy who has the credibility, the work ethic, and the no b.s. attitude to structure the football side of things in the right way.

This is so beyond absurd that I can't even believe it's happening. Haslam is on the verge of making Art Modell look like a good owner.

You know, Verse, Saban is just the type of personality I was describing. He seems to be the type that would rather build than sustain for a long period (relatively speaking based on his moves from place to place), so it might just fit. The question would be whether or not he would also want to coach.

With Ken Whisenhunt fired, I bet quite a few coaches will be looking at Tennessee given the fact they have Mariota

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Trading players like Mack, Kruger, and Mingo makes sense. As the article says, "A league source confirmed the team has actively engaged in discussions to acquire 'assets”'– draft picks -- by trading players no longer in the team’s future plans."

Mack will likely opt out. We drafted his replacement. He won't waive his no trade clause though.

Kruger's production has dropped precipitously (because of his role and/or other reasons that we don't know about). His cap number goes down quite a bit next season, I would expect him to be cut.

Mingo has been a bust and plays something like 20% of the snaps. If we can get any value out of him, we should.

I don't see the harm in trading these guys. In fact, I would encourage it. Especially if I was a guy who had long term job security (Scheiner).

The one who does not line up with this strategy is Joe Thomas. Something tells me his name was floated by a team other than the Browns.

Whisenhunt was 3-20 as the Titans head coach.

Report: Broncos offered Browns a first-round pick for Joe Thomas

Posted by Michael David Smith on November 3, 2015, 9:39 AM EST

The Broncos are buyers and the Browns are sellers as this afternoon’s NFL trade deadline approaches, and there has apparently been talk of the Broncos buying the Browns’ most valuable asset.

Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns and Broncos discussed a trade for All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas, and the Broncos were willing to give up their 2016 first-round pick. However, the Browns wanted even more than that, also asking for the promising young linebacker Shaq Barrett, and the Broncos decided that was too much.

Those discussions came after the Broncos lost their first left tackle, Ryan Clady, to a season-ending injury but before the Broncos lost their second left tackle, Ty Sambrailo, to a season-ending injury. It’s possible that the Broncos could be willing to sweeten the offer today after placing Sambrailo on injured reserve yesterday.

Thomas is signed through 2018 at $10 million a year — a fair price for a left tackle as good as Thomas, but a price that would make him a tight fit under the Broncos’ salary cap. The cap issues and the hefty price the Browns are asking makes a Thomas trade unlikely. But it bears watching in the next seven hours, before the trade deadline hits.

If i were in the playoff hunt, and the LT spot was a position that could be upgraded by a future HOF tackle, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The problem is that Denver's first round pick will be late 20's or even 30.

exactly, we'd be trading Thomas for pick #28 or whatever

The Broncos first round pick in 2016 is very likely to be #29, 30, 31, 32 pick. So you would give up Joe Thomas for no more than a late first rounder?

Damn, this franchise is dumber than hell..on the management side.

...and this guy Shaq Barrett...he was free agent for the Broncos...

The Broncos were simply trying to see how stupid the Browns were. BTW, that has not been answered yet..we still could be the dumbest franchise in the NFL by the end of this day.

I'd trade anyone on this team EXCEPT Joe Thomas.

Apparently Alec Scheiner wasn't watching the Browns when guys like Kevin Shaffer and Kirk Chambers were getting killed by edge rushers. I bet all of our QBs remember....if they haven't been brain-damaged from the concussions.

cfrs...has the trade deadline past?

Haslam and Farmer still have a chance to prove how dumb they are.

Just the fact that Haslam and Farmer entertained such a deal shows how stupid they are. If it got leaked to media, it means the Browns were trying to trade Joe Thomas...and for peanuts...yea, a Hall of Fame LT for Broncos' peanuts.

j/c...

So its Nov. 3rd isn't the deadline today at 4pm???

YEP they all ASSume we are going to do a fire sale.

I am sure if anyone asked if we would be willing to listen to possible trade offers we would ALWAYS and I MEAN ALWAYS say yes. Stupid to say no.

Right away "SOURCES SAY" comes from the Bozo's thinking they are scooping something. Of course the source came from a BAR Discussion...still a source I guess.

Joe Thomas going, Mingo going - maybe I can see that if they can get 2nd round for him.

Mack going - he would have to approve the trade but I can see that also being done.

But year after year we hear about this happening and lo and behold there is no fire sale here.

Just because we got some good talent on this team that might fit for other teams. The Bozo's are always looking for WHO ON THE BROWNS CAN MAKE ANOTHER TEAM BETTER...asin screw the Browns they are here for other teams.

Yet I can't remember a Trade Deadline deal happening.

And yeah we are blowing it up again after all there is a league source. Unamed and drunk!

jmho - Bozo's got to love them I guess.

Where there's smoke there's fire. Apparently JT said he wouldn't stop a trade and would wave his no trade clause if dealt. If this is true the locker room is a mess and needs a cleanup anyways.

Just heard on NFLNetwork that Haden and Gipson have joined the other Browns who are "on the block"

I did a search on Craigslist in the Cleveland area for these guys and wouldn't you know it? The Browns had an ad for Haden, Gibson, Mack, Thomas and Mingo under the Personals section of Men Seeking Draft Picks.

A Hall of Fame LT for Broncos PEANUTS...THAT IS WHAT THE BROWNS TRIED TO DO.

This LB, Saq Barrett...who is he and what value does he have?

The Broncos offered a pick from the bottom of the first round...and THE BROWNS were willing to make the deal if they could get Shaq Barrett, who was undrafted in 2014, signed by the Broncos and did not play in 2014.

The guy has played in only 7 NFL games and has only 1 start, 25 tackles, 3.5 sacks. His value is not much and he is still an unknown...equal to peanuts.

I'm shocked that the Broncos did not jump all over the Browns counter offer...then had no additional draft picks invested if they traded Barrett and their pick, 29 to 32 of the 2016 draft.

A NFL Hall of Fame LT for Broncos PEANUTS...management is dumber than hell for even listening to such an offer.

Except for the fact that Farmer, if he is still the GM, will likely let Gipson leave, because, you know, compensatory picks.

If the Browns FO was smart they would be buyers and trade all of their first, second and third round picks for proven players in the league, young proven players that way they can't screw up the draft again!

In what parallel Universe did this happen in...cause I don't think that ever happened in this one. Come on Mac..Get a grip!

smh Don't feed the Bozo's.

They are picking teams with losing records and playing some MADDEN type fantasy game on who we got that can help other teams win a SB. They do it unfortunately for us every year except last year cause we were actually winning!

EXACTLY...and this dumbass management was trying to trade their best player, a Hall of Fame LT for peanuts.

I can't believe the Broncos didn't jump on the deal the Browns counter offered. They had so little invested in Shaq Barrett.

It might be that Elway is playing with the Browns, figuring that Haslam and Farmer will cave in and just trade JT for whatever the Broncos want to give up...a late first round pick.

At the last minute, Elway will call the Browns and say, OK, you wore me down, we will throw in that guy we signed as a undrafted free agent last year.

If our idiot owner and management trade JT, they need to be fired.
