Urban Myer has done nothing as a head coach but win. His overall record is 151-26.
Does anyone know if he has any interest in coaching in the NFL?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/13/urban-meyer-on-nfl-jobs-not-right-now/
This is all I have found.
The article for sure leaves the door open. He is an Ohio guy. He has turned around every situation he has been in. The Browns are still waiting to be turned around.
After watching the Paul Brown "A Football Life". It struck me to look at Meyer.
At the end of the day coaching is about building a program that works. He has done that.
Obviously he knows college talent.
College coaches in the NFL have had mixed results. The thing that makes me feel good about Meyer coaching the Browns is very simple. He is a winner.
He seems like the type of guy that losing is out of question. That attitude alone would be refreshing.
I am interested in what others think about the possibility of him as head coach.

For the love of God I hope he stays at OSU. At least I always have something to look forward to on Saturdays, it keeps me sane enough to watch the crap-fest we are dealt on most Sundays.

Funny. I kind of knew the OSU crowd would go over the top.
Understandable.
Still the Browns need help and Meyer may be the right medicine.

He'd be a complete fool to leave tOSU for the Browns.
Why on Earth would he even remotely consider doing that to himself??

The only thing I can say about that kind of professional decision is wanting to go to the highest level of competition.
It is not for everyone. It has to come from an inner drive.
I will say if I were in his shoes and have had the success he has had I would want to do it.
The Browns are the perfect team. They have been down for so long up is the only direction left to go.
You don't want to follow a guy like Belechick.
To take his home state's college team to a championship is totally cool. To take the Browns to a title would cement a legacy. Not that he already has not done that at the college level because he has. But to do it with the Browns - come on. He would own the state.
One good thing if he did decide and Haslam did hire him; he may well be able to pick this years top quarterback prospect. That is a big deal. Even though there is no Andrew Luck type coming out this year. There still could be a gem.
He is 51 years old. The NFL for many is a ten year job if successful. Many guys like Madden, and Jimmy Johnson had their day and walked away.
Meyer is at that time if he wants to do it now maybe the time. He could very likely walk away from OSU with two titles.

Financially and for job security, he would be smart to stay... but with guys that competitive, you always wonder if they don't long to give it a shot at the highest level.. and that's the NFL.
He could stay where he is and in about 15 years go down as one of the greatest coaches in college football history and probably have a few championships to his credit... but it wouldn't surprise if somewhere deep down he wonders if he could do it at the NFL level...

Not sure if you know this or not, but the Ohio State job was always his life-long goal. I know... but once people achieve their goals, especially somebody that competitive, the natural progression is to develop new goals. Achieved his goal of coaching OSU.. achieved his goal of winning a championship.. so if he wins another one? or a third at OSU in the next few years? Doesn't it stand to reason that he just might start thinking.. "Ok, what next?" Not saying he will, not saying I hope he does.. just saying it's possible.

I am interested in what others think about the possibility of him as head coach. Shoot, after the OSU gig, I image he will retire to an ESPN spot for a few years. He has it made at OSU with about the best fan base, one of the best home fields in the county, top recruiting talent in his backyard, and the ability to reload year after year. Not to mention he has the shot every year to almost automatically be in the B1G championship game...pretty sweet deal and oh, the money is not an issue at OSU!

LOL no. There are rumors that he wants to go to the NFL. There are rumors that Sweeny, an Alabama grad, will take his place. Saban was our DC when BB was here. Haslam would be attracted towards that kind of guy and Saban would love to have full control.
I don't think it as far-fetched as many think.

There are rumors that Sweeny, an Alabama grad, will take his place. Dabo Swinney? I didn't know he was a Bama alum. Saban was our DC when BB was here. Don't remind me. I remember that whole staff. Haslam would be attracted towards that kind of guy and Saban would love to have full control. I could only see Saban doing it if he had full control and you are right, Haslam would drool over a big time SEC guy like that. Funny thing is that the one thing Saban has had trouble getting at Alabama.. is good consistent QB play. LOL

Yep. He's an Alabama boy. There are already rumors out there that he will replace Saban , should the latter leave for the NFL.
DC, not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but that might have been the greatest staff ever assembled.
Oh, we would have to give him FULL CONTROL. No doubt about that. I would do it. No hesitation.
Did someone mention that he had full control in Miami? If so, no, that is not true. In fact, he left because he wanted to go all-in on a qb---Brees was his guy---and management denied him. That is the main reason he left. He said he knew he could not win in the NFL w/out a qb.
I think Saban is the closest thing to Belichick that's out there.

DC, not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but that might have been the greatest staff ever assembled. Belichick, Saban, Schwartz, Ferentz.. heck Mangini was the towel boy.. I was not being sarcastic... I still remember from the ESPN thing on them when Saban said after the 1994 season when we went 11-5.... his quote... we finally thought we had turned a corner, the vision was coming true, we all thought we would be here for a long time... and I weep openly. Oh, we would have to give him FULL CONTROL. No doubt about that. I would do it. No hesitation. As would I my friend.. and if I was Haslam I would give him a 5 year deal and tell him.. I don't care how bad things look, you will be here for 5 years... do what you have to do.

We also employed Ozzie, Lombardi, Pioli, that guy who was GM for the Jets, another who was the GM for the Falcons, etc. Unreal! What did they call themselves? The Slappys? LOL
I was a big fan of BB back then. I defended him like I defended Banner a year or two ago. I thought he had a vision and he was so fundamentally sound. What could have been............
I think Saban would want full control AND coach the team if he were to come here. I can almost guarantee that a bunch of people, mainly the ones that hated Mangini and Banner, will hate Saban, and it could get ugly as he attempts to change the culture. The media won't like him, either. It's probably good that Grossi doesn't have as much influence as he used to have.
Saban is a winner and he is the one guy that I would give complete control to. I don't want a retired guy like Cowher, Gruden, or Parcells to come in here and "consult." That is foolishness. I want a guy who is totally committed to the team.

Didn't he have full control in Miami and it was a complete disaster? Yep, and he ditched the team, choosing to go to Bama, after saying that he wasn't going to even consider the job ("I'm not going to be the Alabama Coach").... after only 2 years of a 5 year deal. Further, the Dolphins owner said that he had received "multiple assurances" from Saban that he would return. Saban, after ditching the Dolphins to return to college, was all choked up when he said goodbye to his coaches ...... by speakerphone. I think that he's a quality coach .... but can we trust him to stay the course in the pro game that has proved to be a different animal than the college game? It is an interesting idea .... but I don't know if it's a good one. After repeated denials, Saban takes Bama job http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2718488

I think another reason he (Meyer) wouldn't go would be to be with his family. It was one of the big things on his list when he took the OSU job.
I don't want to think about it at all, but if I had to, I'd want Tom Herman to come back to Ohio State. A smart, young coach that would be here for quite awhile.

I like Urban Meyer. He did a lot of great things while at Florida, and is now doing them at OSU.
I do think he bailed on Florida once Saban started whipping him on the recruiting end, thus, I would say his skin isn't thick enough to ever make it in the NFL.
College coaches have a lot of control over what happens with their football teams. Way more then they do in the NFL. He would never make it as a NFL coach.

Haslam might recruit Forrest Gumpp. Farmer would guarantee the money, I bet.
Shrimp for everybody at least.
No way Meyer comes here. He is IN his dream job already. Mission accomplished. Kinda like the other Harbaugh returning to the school up north — only better.

I think guys like Saban and Meyer (and you can add Harbaugh) are happier with college teams than they would be with NFL teams. They have control over nearly everything, the money is often better than NFL, and the fans treat them like royalty. In many ways, it's a better gig than being an NFL HC.

I was a big fan of BB back then. I defended him like I defended Banner a year or two ago. I thought he had a vision and he was so fundamentally sound. What could have been............ Not only did BB have a vision, when he went in to interview with Art, he had a notebook, a 3" 3-ring binder, in which he had already mapped out his plan on making the Browns great again. From what I've heard it was quite the exhaustive effort to put it together and that was one of the big reasons he was hired.

Yeah, I saw that. It was freaking awesome.
Watching that piece on NFL Network and listening to all the other guys talk, one couldn't help but recognize the genius that is Bill Belichick. I liked him back in the day, but I had no idea he was that much of a genius. LOL.......I just thought he was a good coach w/vision. I never knew that he paid so much attention to detail.
The other thing I liked about him in that piece.........he was a Brown's fan growing up. He talked to his staff about how important it was to bring the Cleveland fans a winner. He shrugged off the criticism and didn't bad mouth anyone after how poorly the "fans" treated him.
Man, I wish we still had him. We would have won multiple Super Bowls by now.

Tragic really.
All the Patriots are we could have been.
And they are not going anywhere. He will continue to win. He won with Matt Cassel.
If he stays after Brady he will still win.
He is the best game planner the league has ever seen.
As I stated in the Paul Brown post:
"He really became Paul Brown in many ways."
