They have been Coaching him up on keeping the pads low from the get go. It's a habit that is going to take time to break, but I think he is trying really hard make it his instinct. He could get away with not keeping his pads down in College, but not in the pro's. He needs a GOOD off season conditioning program Might be good to lose some of the fat, and get around to some yoga. Stretch out those hammies and butt so he can get down lower and stay down lower. There's probably a host of euphemisms in that last point, but I'm posting it anyway.

He's slow and fat. With strength, a high motor, who demands a double team, who doesn't give up on plays.

He's going to be a good one.
Debatable. Great attitude with a lot of deficiencies to overcome and still no sign, especially after Camp Cupcake, that instincts have changed. Wasted time when drafted through start of this season and was out of NFL shape. Could be a better version of Wali Rainer: worked hard, tried hard, team player, and ultimately failed.

We took shelton off the field on every 3rd and short just to have Meder get shoved off the line. I freaked hated the way we used Shelton last year. Hell I hated the way we used most of our guys on D last year.

Some combo of Bryant, Bryant, Kruger, Mingo, Cooper, and/or Orchard should be out there.

Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Shelton is just reflective on how stupid and dumb Farmer was of a GM. THE LEAGUE IS DOMINATED BY PASSING BUT HE DRAFTS A RUN STOPPER OR LACK OF A RUN STOPPER IN THE TOP 10. Shelton was easily blocked one on one really lacked any aggression. Teams ran at will on the Browns defense which has been a consistant since 1999

Shelton was drafted at 12. Either way, even in a passing league, you have to be able to stop the run. As you said, teams ran at will on us for the most part. That isn't all on Shelton, but he definitely needs to improve. A huge part of our problem was scheme and the ILBs.

Too many fans expect draft picks to step in and play up to their hype, to play as though they were veterans.
They say, "Oh, we're going to be a lot better this year, we got this and this and that player in the draft." And then, at the end of they year they complain that the rookies didn't make the impact they expected.
It's a big jump from college to the pros. Some players at some positions start out of the gate like a star but those are rare. The majority take a little time to adjust. That's why it's said it takes three years before you can fairly judge a draft class. Draft picks need time to come into their own.
For some fans, their expectations are just way too high.

Browns NT Danny Shelton said I was livid about limited snaps last season, want to be out there, but need to respect coaches' decisions. Coaches get the blame, but what about the player's conditioning and performance? I saw a play last year where Shelton was breathing heavily and didn't even get into his stance because he was so tired. I think there was a reason or three that he was taken out of games.

What transpired on the play before? need more info.

I don't know how much Shelton weighed..he was listed at something like 340.
At 6-2 and 340, watching Shelton, you could see that the extra weight was of no benefit to him. The extra weight was not muscle and that didn't help.
Just like Cam Erving, Shelton needs to work on his body if he wants to improve his play.

That's great with Danny not being happy with last season, losing a little weight (not 40,but 15 is better than nothing... I guess) and so on and so forth - but I'd really like to see him own someone when he's being single covered. We expect him to take on double teams, yet he was being shut down with one.
Like Erving, I'm not ready to write these kids off yet, but both need to step up big time.

Didn't hear him say it, but I read the "15 lbs but not 40" type statement as he feels like he dropped 40... feels totally different.
Don't know, I'd have to watch and listen.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

The guy was a rookie. I don't think this is out-of-line.
He should still develop into a top-flight DT. Three years, right?

They need to fine him for every pound he is over 330. He had to be close to 380 last year. Out of shape, fat and slow. His Twitter handle is "Feast Mode". That pretty much says it all. He's one off season of Big Macs away from eating his way out of the league. Fat and slow isn't going to cut it. He seems to think if he out weighs everyone on the field he wins.
I hope our new staff gets on his ass about weight control. Watching him waddle out there every week was painful last year. You take a guy at 12 you want more than just some fat lump taking up space.
Oh and I don't care what the situation is, no player should be so tired and out of shape he can't even get in his stance. That is piss poor conditioning. Work out more, "feast" less. Feast mode? Unbelievable.

If you're 6'2", 340 lbs or 380 lbs, it shouldn't take much more than sensible eating to drop 20, 30, even 40 lbs. Seriously - even semi sensible eating will lose that weight.

I see people all the time that are obese and they have no clue why. When I get in their house, I can see why. Candy, chips (and I love chips), pre packaged food all over. Just 2 weeks ago I saw a lady that had one dresser drawer in her bedroom filled with bags. Bags of food. 3 different kinds of chips, couple bags of cookies, just totally packed with stuff you can buy at a gas station.
Her living room floor was full of plates, dirty plates. You couldn't see her table OR her countertops because they were full of bags of food. You know, more cookies, candy, chips, etc.
But, she wasn't aware of why she was obese.
I'm not talking about a person that could stand to lose 10 lbs or so, either.

Danny didn't get the job done last year. He only has to look in the mirror to see why. This and next off season, and this regular season will tell the story. Either he want's it bad enough or he doesn't we will know soon.

But, she wasn't aware of why she was obese. LOL.........so true. This is pretty mean, but man...........I have had so many co-workers that were obese. We would sit down to eat lunch and they order a diet soda, because you know........"I'm really trying to watch my weight." They then have extra helpings of EVERYTHING. LOL man......You think a diet soda is gonna compensate for the quadruple cheeseburger garnished w/a ton of starching condiments, extra large fry, and two desserts?

Still can't figure out why they can't lose weight. "I eat a salad every day for lunch?"

For me to lose weight I got to exercise. I can eat rabbit food all day and not lose a pound. I go and play golf and lose 7 pounds...mostly water but after a day and drinking water back...I lose 1 or 2 lbs.
I do nutritionist stuff for others...not a professional but when I put them on a program is complete with working out and 6 meal... B L n Dinner with snack, snack and ending with snack. (Fruit or nuts or salad is snack) Maybe a pure fruit ice (no sugar). For myself...I can't do it...I'm a sucker for Pasta and Potatoes...
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
