If Cook's injury is serious enough to where he might need surgery, and rest doesn't work, he's going to fall in the draft (he might fall anyway because of accuracy and "leadership concerns") And if Goff and Lynch don't come out, this wouldn't be the year to have the 1st pick. Too much uncertainty unless you're drafting a defensive player #1.

I'm done, I hope the stadium is empty Monday night. I'm no longer going. Screw this. I've never been this pissed off at the team in my life. I may just get OSU tickets next year and say to hell with the Browns. I can take a lot, but this may be the worst decision I have seen this franchise make. What a freaking joke.

I don't think they'll actually beat Baltimore a second time, they've been playing better of late. Better hope McCown doesn't get hurt, otherwise it's Austin Davis. Yikes.

The QBs who are thinking of coming out are going to wait until they see who has the first pick before declaring. If it's the Browns, they won't come out.

If we were going to start Manziel to "see what we have," then why not Austin Davis instead of McCown.

I don't think this is true. We've had two QBs ever do something similar to what you are saying (Elway and Manning).

my feeling is that a company or organization should not be allowed to demote, fire, or bench someone for drinking responsibly and not breaking any laws. (regardless of someone's past)

I'm guessing there is more to the story but Pet is in over his head. That is for sure.

If he can't control his players... there is one more reason to throw on the pile why he has no business being a head coach.

Clearly, Pet has lost control and the ship is sinking fast.

Football seasons are supposed to be enjoyable. As the summer winds down, I start getting that nervous excited feeling for what's to come.

But the Browns never give me anything to be happy about. I don't know why I keep doing this.

He's in over his head, but that doesn't have anything to do with Manziel.

The bad part is there really isn't a "great" QB coming out. I've read/heard guys like Lynch, Goff, Cook, Prescott (who seems to be flying up draft boards if you believe the writers) all being mentioned as potential first rounders, but none of them are complete by any means.

I actually like Prescott, but I wouldn't want him with the number one overall pick. Lynch is probably the guy going 1st, but he scares me with inconsistent play and gimmicky offense. Goff is a decent prospect but probably needs another year. Cook is the guy who I don't want at all....horrible footwork and accuracy.

I'm all but certain we will take Cook.

Maybe he was late to the meeting he was supposed to have about the party?

As a football fan, I don't think this is a big enough deal to bench him. We need to know what we have with JFF as a QB, so we know if we need to draft or trade for another. We are not going to learn with him on the bench.

As a recovering alcoholic, I agree with the concept that he has to have real consequences for not keeping his promises to his team and teammates.

As a Browns fan, I am utterly dismayed that the circus of buffoonery continues unabated.

I kinda wish the Browns would use the same standards of accountability for the play ON THE FIELD as strongly as they do for transgressions off of it.

Johnny Manziel broke company policy

Do you read or understand what im telling you? Morality has nothing to do with it.

Manziel agreed to follow that company policy when he signed that contract(got hired) it was a condition of his continued employment with this organization. This has nothing to do with morality.

The Browns bent over backwards over and over, and over, and over, and over telling JM it wasn't acceptable and went above and beyond to support him in trying to alter this behavior that was not only damaging to him, but damaging to the team.

I wanted JM to succeed here, its a shame though he won't get out of his own way.

What part of "Your employer tells you not to do this so you don't do it if you want a job here" do you not understand?

Josh Gordon is another one of these types...his employer tells him he can't smoke dope, and was willing to pay him millions of dollars not to smoke dope and just catch footballs, and he couldn't even do that...what a waste...

At some point, you have to realize that JM isn't going to listen, and if he isn't going to do whats expected of him and to behave the way he is expected to, its time to move on....

Bill Cowher said it best, players want accountability in that lockeroom, and for once, Pettine actually got this one right.

I don't get any pleasure out of this, but sheesh at some point enough is enough! he has had far more leeway given to him then Bellichik, Parcells, Cowher or any of those other guys would have given him...JM has no one to blame for this but himself...he was told what would happen if this type of stuff continued...

Mike Pettine: We're not going to micromanage Manziel

Johnny Manziel's weekend adventures will continue to make "news" around the country. Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine will continue to ignore it.


"We're not going to be in the business of micromanaging our players outside of the building," Pettine told NFL Media's Adam Schein on his Mad Dog Sports Radio show Tuesday. "It's something that he (Manziel) understands. But what he's gonna do is, he's not gonna cause it, he's not gonna allow it to kind of force him to live his life differently."

In time, perhaps the attention on Manziel's weekends will die down. Although that will be tougher to achieve during this age of digital cameras.

"If you followed other guys, you'd get some pictures. Maybe not an inflatable swan, but you'd get some pictures," Pettine cracked to reporters in a reference to the most recent picture of Manziel that was passed around this weekend.

Pettine told Schein that he has no questions about Manziel's love for the game, so he won't hold his fame against him. And that a lot of folks are jealous of his fame.

"One of the biggest things that we look at when we evaluate players from a personality standpoint -- it's a very fine line -- it's how much does the player love football versus how much does this player love what football does for him. And there's no issue if it's both, but what we don't want is a guy that loves what football does for him and really doesn't love the game. And that's very much not the case with Johnny (Manziel). He absolutely loves football, very competitive. ...


"He's very difficult on himself, he's a guy that he wants to win every down, and you could tell. He gets very upset when things don't work out. That showed up in his college tape, when there were times when he felt he had to take it on himself to will his team to win. And we understand too that he does love what football has done for him, and in large part I think a lot of us are jealous of what football has done for him. After he wins the Heisman, and the world was kind of laid at his feet."
For now, Manziel continues to battle Brian Hoyer for the team's starting job. Since Hoyer isn't fully recovered from his ACL surgery, Manziel is taking first team snaps during 11-on-11 drills. NFL Media's Aditi Kinkhabwala noted that Hoyer's release and ability to go through his reads is still ahead of Manziel. Pettine insists that Manziel is starting from scratch.

"He understands Johnny Football was earned at Texas A&M, but he really has to hit the reset button. It's like back to zero in the NFL; it would kind of ring hollow that if he was promoted as Johnny Football and he's not performing well in the NFL," Pettine said. "So he knows he has to earn that job, he's gotta win the job first and be a productive player in the league for that to come back. And I think he handles it very well. While some people question the maturity of some of the things that he does, when it comes to taking care of business, football-wise, he's very mature."

So both Manziel and Pettine are liars.

what exactly did he do this weekend ? went to a club and visited with friends...how dare he...its all stupid and I hope pettine never works in the league again...he's a douchebag...and his defense is the reason we are where we are. Manziel's biggest problem is he was drafted by the biggest dumpster fire in the league. Go ahead take another QB next year with the first pick, he'll die here in this graveyard like everyone else. I hope Manziel gets cut or traded so he gets a chance to at least show he can play.
