O.K. so this morning as I am going to work I find myself behind in a line following an oversized utility truck, in the left hand lane. There was another line in the right hand lane but that was being held up by some geriatric grandma going 35mph in a 65 mph zone. You would think that the truck would vacate the faster lane in favor of the right and slower lane , right ? Of course not, they were seemingly having a contest to see who could get the bigger line behind them. Normally I don't get so mad but this morning I snapped passed him on the left and then confronted the guy at the next light. I asked why he was....well the PG version was that I finally got him to see the error of his ways and move to the appropriate lane. My question is why are people so damned clueless and inconsiderate on the road. It takes ALOT for me to lose my temper but it seems people are either too stupid to obey the common rules of the road or too selfish to care. By the way if you were that truck driver I am sorry, so lets not involve the authorities .

If you can't or won't drive the speed limit stay the hell off the road. Don't even get me started on women drivers. There should be a special test designed to show women that behind the wheel is no place to put on makeup, talk useless chatter to other women or to do anything other than pay attention to the road and drive your damned car.

I was being sarcastic in my response to you. Clearly, you just like to act like an ass however. What's funny is you think women are worse drivers than men. GMAB. There are bad drivers in both sexes. Trust me, you would much rather my Mother be on the road with you than my Father. You can take your sexist attitude and shove it. I'm actually glad you had a bad morning commute.

J/C Funny, I drove behind a bunch of slow ass people in the left lane on the highway this morning. When I finally got around the turtles, guess what? They were all men. It took me longer to get to work than I expected due to these people however, I felt no need to cry and whine about men drivers on the message board. I guess I'll leave the whining to the big tough men on here.

BOTH drivers were obstructing the flow of traffic and subject to being ticketed.
In today's atmosphere of "Road Rage" it is not a good a good idea to confront anyone.. Let the authorities do it.
I believe you exagerated your story somewhat as a 65 mph speed limit is not controlled by traffic lights. 55 maybe but not 65

Old people me off too. I was on RT2 yesterday after dropping off my kids and got stuck behind some old fart driving 35 down the highway. What sucks worse was they are tearing up the road and it was one lane so I had nowhere to go. Anytime I start to come up to a full size Buick or Caddy I know chances are they are old and I stay away from them if I can. Don't even get me started on mini-van soccer moms,,OMG That and the people that hit their damn brakes over and over and over as they drift 1 MPH over the speed limit Or, the stupid bastages that come to a complete stop to make a damn right turn. That one annoys the hell out of me. But not as much as every loser in a yellow Cavalier that wants to race me at every light I

Perfect! My Mom, aside from having a rather heavy foot, is an excellent driver. I'll take it. My Dad on the other hand...he was found at 1am driving the wrong way on a major highway. And, no, he wasn't drunk.

And the old lady probably wasn't going 35, she was probably going 50 in a 55... which by most standards, seems pretty slow...
My observation of a lot of drivers is that they are clueless. They pay no attention to anything going on around them, if it's not directly in front of them, they don't see it. That's why they pull up to a red light and block side streets and parking lots, don't let people in, etc... I honestly think it's not because they're mean, it's because they're not paying attention... and men are just as guilty as women and I find it appalling that anybody would equate gender with driving ability....
Don't get me started on Asian drivers though...

Not really, young people get in more accidents just from inexperience. I'm accident free so far in my life, have never had to make and insurance claim, ever! Hope that streak stays alive.

This one really irritates me. There's a light near our house where people always block the entrance to a gas station and people have to wait to get in, thus blocking the intersection. I stop far enough back to let people get in and out. I got honked at the other day because the fool behind me didn't like that I wasn't on the bumper of the car in front of me. As the light turned green and I went forward, I realized why...he was turning right into the gas station.

No really it was 35 MPH no kidding. Myself I try to be a defensive driver and to teach my daughter to do the same. I try to look at the car ahead of the one ahead of me assuming that the person to my immediate front isn't paying attention. I look carefully at lights assuming someone will not be paying attention and blow the light . I TRY to be courteous and safe and so far in 22 years of driving I have never had a ticket or been responsible for an accident...knock wood.

Well, I can't speek for your area, but around here, everyone's just in too big a hurry. They block driveways and side streets because that one car that might slip in could cost them a few miliseconds. What's ironic (and this does pertain to your area) is that most often, those drivers in too damned big a hurry are the ones causing the delays. 495 always amazes me. I have been at a dead stop with people getting out of their cars, assuming there was some sort of accident, only to find a merge to be at fault.
And as to the sexes thing. When I start to accuse some one of being a bling old man or a cell phone toting, makeup applying woman, I am most often wrong. Sex has nothing to do with it.

I haven't had an accident in 20 years... I had 2 before I was 21, one I was showing off and jumped a curb and went into a hedge... the other I was sitting in traffic and fell asleep and drifted into the bumper of the car in front of me... neither serious. In fact I'm going on 15 years now without a ticket too..

Me, I just wiz past everyone as fast as I can using any lane available, turn lanes, emergency lanes, open opposing lanes, driveways, parking lots, airport runways. I used to get upset, and sometimes it gets to me, but for the most part I just turn on the raido and cruise along, as long as they are doing speed limit, I'm fine with it, or will wait for an opening to get passed them. I'm tired of the every damn little Honda with a muffler tip pulling up next to me and revving their lawnmower sounding car wanting to race. Give me a break dork, your not worth the gas I'd waste.

They think they are invincible. I always see old jalopies fly past me like I'm standing still, and weaving in and out of traffic loaded with 4 or 5 teens in it. Have also seen my share of old jalopies flipped over on the side of the road with blown tires and bodies on stretchers and under white sheets.

Actually no. It's for 2 reasons, the first of which is that driving requires you to process a lot of information quickly and constantly. With experience processing most of it becomes second nature and you develop the ability to anticipate what others are going to do... but in the first few YEARS of driving, you actually have to think about it consciously, it takes longer, you miss something and you have an accident... likewise 17 year old kids typically do not have the patience or attention span of older adults.. it's just a fact...
The second reason is that the part of the brain which processes risk isn't fully developed until about the age of 25... at least that's what I've read in a couple psychological studies. The ability to associate your actions with the possible negative consequences just isn't there yet, which is why kids do things that leave us adults scratching our head and thinking... "What the hell was that kid thinking?"...
So if you add those two together, inability to appropriately assess risk and inexperience... it's a very dangerous combination.

WTH is a jalopie? In Ohio they passed a great new law for teens. You can't have more than one non-family member in the car with you. If I was 16 I would say "Thats BS" But at 29 I think it's a terrific idea. Driving you need to pay attention, not have your attention on the 5 friends in the car.

A lot of states are going to a phased-in system of driving, which I think is a great idea. I went from non-driving, to a brief learners permit period, to full driving privileges in about 6 months...
I think at first the hours should be restricted, the number of passengers should be restricted, use of cell phones should be prohibited, etc.. and those things should be phased in over a few years...

I think 16 is too young to drive. Sorry, but I do....I would have been mad as hell if the age was raised to 17 or 18 when I was 16, but I don't think *most* 16 year olds have the mental capacity to handle it very well.
