My first thought was he knows he's lost the locker room, and he didn't want Williams to get trashed by the media and fans. Kind of "Look, I support my guys" kind of thing.

Could be interpreted that way or hey, there's nothing wrong with the scheme, they just didn't execute it right. wink

Man this sucks so hard. I'm busy as all hell so I am way way behind on game pass, won't even bother watching half these games. Was all for continuity but goddamn we gotta blow it up, all of it. These cats from top to bottom are clueless. Lowest I've been and lowest I've ever seen many of you dawgs. What a gyp.

The oline looked horrid. I'm surprised our QB survived. Yep the oline is ok . SMH

Guess my only comment is..I watched the first half. The camera kept panning in on Pettine and he had a face like he was somewhere..anywhere but this game.

Even the wife commented on it...made me so sick and the ass woopen I saw coming I went to bed. I was tired from jet lag anyway...so between his dumbass face his crap schemes..I laid down.

Got up About 530 asked the wife well? and she just shook her head and said you didn't miss anything. Got on here read the game day thread to fill in the blanks..and went back to bed..

Can anyone explain what in the world has happened to our offensive line? Three 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks, and Greco; I thought this unit was the one part of our team that could be counted on. They have been a sieve. Teams are collapsing us up the middle in pass protection, and they are stonewalling us on running plays - 68 yards rushing yesterday (Cinci had 140-something). And as long as I'm whining, who thought it would be a good idea to have Barnidge blocking Carlos Dunlap in pass pro?

Probably the worst loss ever

I recognize that the Bengals are a good team. So it should come as no shock that they beat us, but damn it, can't we be at least a little competitive!

I took my daughter and her friend to the 12:30 showing of Mockingjay Part 2. Came out of the movie at 2:45 and was out for at least half an hour before it occurred to me that the Browns were playing so I checked the score on my phone.. it was 17-3 or 24-3 or something along those lines. I saw one thing on a bleacher report update that one of the Browns players started a scuffle because a Bengals player jumped into our stands.. I tried to get upset over that but couldn't. Then I checked the score last night to see what the final was. Mike and Mike started talking about the Browns on my way to work so I turned it over and listened to country music.

The best way to watch a Browns game... is to not actually watch it!

CIN-CLE GRADES: Atkins, Hill star in dominant win

Cleveland Browns

– We have been saying for most part of the season that while the number of sacks may not show it, the Cleveland offensive line has been playing well and were let down by the blocking of fullbacks and tight ends. However, that was not the case yesterday as the Cincinnati front proved to be too much for the Browns offensive line. It could be argued that Joel Bitonio (-1.3) going down after six snaps had an impact on the line’s performance, but even he gave up a pressure on one of his three pass block snaps. Things did get worse when Bitonio had to leave the field, though. Unfortunately for Browns fans, rookie Cameron Erving (-7.5) showed yet again that, although he has potential, he is not ready for NFL action yet, especially not going against Geno Atkins. Erving allowed one sack, one quarterback hit and five hurries before being benched in the fourth quarter. Joe Thomas (+4.0) turned out to be the only bright spot for this unit, who was the only offensive lineman to not allow a single pressure.

– One of the interesting storylines of the game was the Browns starting Austin Davis (+1.7) over Johnny Manziel, but Davis showed yesterday why the coaching staff can trust him. While he was not phenomenal, Davis proved to be a very competent game manager for Cleveland, in the good sense of the term. He constantly tried to take what the defense gave him and not force things, which is shown by the four passes he threw away after not finding anyone open downfield. While his yards per attempt was significantly lower than Dalton’s, his accuracy percentage of 81.8% was actually higher. In addition, Davis was not rattled by the pressure coming from Cincinnati’s defense and this was especially important because he was under pressure on 53.5% of his dropbacks. On these plays he completed 11 of his 16 aimed passes for 104 yards and earned a PFF grade of +1.9. Although, he did have an interception and a fumble as well, he can hardly be blamed for either of them since the former came as a result of miscommunication and the latter was an incomplete lateral pass being picked up by Cincinnati.

– While cornerback Tramon Williams (-3.1) has had an up-and-down season so far, he could rarely be mentioned among the bigger problems of the Cleveland Browns. This was however the case yesterday as Williams earned the lowest grade of his season and it all came in coverage. Williams had to follow Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green throughout the game and Green got the better of the cornerback. Williams was targeted four times yesterday, all attempts going towards Green, and allowed a reception on all four of them. This completion percentage combined with the facts that the passes went for 122 yards and included a touchdown resulted in Williams allowing a perfect passer rating of 158.3 against the Bengals.

Top performers:

LT Joe Thomas (+4.0)
QB Austin David (+1.7)
RB Isaiah Crowell (+1.4)
WR Brian Hartline (+0.9)
NT Jamie Meder (+0.9)
FS Tashaun Gipson (+0.8)

Differences though. At least in country music, you can replace the woman breaking' your heart, and replacing or fix in' the truck is possible to boot.

This team is worse: Break your heart, broke down, unfixable.

2014 Draft:

Me:
1st pick: sweet, we're finally going to get a WR, and we got a 1st round pick our of the deal, I hope they take Beckham JR.

Browns: nah jk, cover corner despite having Skrine and Haden already on the roster. LOL who needs WRs?

2nd pick:

Me:
Sweet we are in a great spot, Bridgewater or Carr, I want Bridgewater but I know a lot of people love Carr.

Browns: LOL Johnny Football!!!! Buy tickets! Get excited!

2015 NFL Draft:

1st pick:

ME:
Please god do not take Danny Shelton, he freaking sucks, he is sloppy fat, looks like Ty Cody, not Haloti Ngata, pls no. I would rather have Grady Jarret in round 4, or Malcolm Brown.

Browns: LEL Fat nose tackle! Run stuffer!

2nd pick:

Me: This draft sucks, just take Devin Smith, Maxx Williams or DGB, we have to get a play maker. (not so much, but not any worse)

Browns: hahaha LOL at you BpG, backup center that we are going to put at guard, that played left tackle.

Ray Farmer "We do things a little different"

No Ray, you're a moron, you think you're smarter than everyone else. In reality the only person you outsmarted was yourself. ALL OFFSEASON, ALL I HEARD was Derek Carr and Bridgewater......if those were smokescreens, you're a moron.

I feel bad for Pett. He's just in over his head, with a horrendous GM that thinks he is smarter than everyone else. What I perceived as Farmers confidence was a blind arrogance that sunk a decent team.

LOOK AT BRIAN HOYER RIGHT NOW!!!

Almost evertything Farmer has done has been just downright terrible. I tried to agree with some of the moves, but it's clear, the only good move he made was getting Dansby over Jackson, that's it!

Skrine - why let him walk and sign an old corner?
Ward - Whitner is a great leader, but this team is about to be 2-14 and he is getting old.
Hoyer - His arrogance got in the way of keeping Hoyer.

TERRANCE WEST WAS A DISASTER! Now he is on the Ravens?! Unacceptable!

My points are all over the place right now, I am so angry I can't even compose a complete paragraph on each topic. There are just too many mistakes to cover!

Farmer has to go. Period.

Taped it and I watched until we went for it on 4th and 11....
Cause, of course, our D was holding them if we didn't make it.
Pretty much fast forwarded thru the rest to the Post Game to see if 'Coach' was fired entering the Locker Room.

Did anyone else notice this when we were wasting all kinds of time on our last drive before the half?

Duke Johnson was actually arguing w/the Steelers at the LOS rather than getting back to his position. This is the dumbest team in the entire NFL.

Would you rather have:

Buffalo's 2015 1st Round Pick
Odell Beckham Junior
Derek Carr

or

Buffalo's 2015 1st Round Pick
Justin Gilbert
Johnny Manziel

How about

Cameron Erving

or

Anybody else who's ever been drafted to the NFL as an OL

Just remembered this...

My son had a pretty funny comment when the Bengals player horse collared and face masked Hartline on the same play. He said "That is like a video game achievement - achievement unlocked!". I was nice to have a laugh while sitting in the stands.

This team has a total lack of discipline... which, oddly enough, starts at the top.. so it's not surprising.

Mack is still not 100%. He'll be gone in a few mo's. The rest of the oline is unprepared and poorly coached in blocking schemes. The RB's aren't helping them either. JT is the only NFL qualified lineman on the squad right now.

Oh and the big one... there is no depth on the bench. So they were basically screwed by the FO in Free Agency and on draft day then screwed by the coaching staff during the season by going away from the run blocking schemes.

This from another Pettine Presser, It absolutely astounds me...

Quote:
“You find out who you are. It’s a healthy dose of adversity and guys respond to it in different ways,” Pettine said.

“Some guys, you’d never know whether it’s 9-2 and 2-9, you’d never know the difference and those are the guys you take your hat off to. They come in every day, professional and they do their work. They come out; they play hard.

“From a coaching standpoint, when things aren’t going well and you have losses like this, the questions come up. You just have to make sure as you question everything that you realize this is our core, this is what we’re doing well, these are areas we need to improve.

If you have something wrong with your heart, you don’t want to operate on the brain. You want to make sure that you have a good understanding of what’s wrong and how to get it fixed.”

Does he really believe he can say this over and over and fix it ?.. without showing any improvement in any aspect of this team..I just smh in disbelief.

Adversity ? how to get it fixed and our core ? WOW !!!

Yes, probably close to 40 seconds or so running down to the 2 minute warning. I was literally screaming in frustration at the TV (!), but then I realized Pettine was just trying to run the clock so Cinci wouldn't score on us before the half...

Not sure if you could hear it on TV, but the stadium was getting very restless and then went into full "booooo" mode when the 2 minute warning hit.

Flip happened. Last year we blocked well and ran the ball well. The line didn't forget how to play. The scheme changed.

$300.00 for tickets
5 hour round trip drive
$8.00 for a hot dog
$13.00 for a 'craft' brew
$5.00 for a bottle of water
players on the field who could care less about winning
half the Browns fans in the stadium empty out at halftime
the other half are gone by mid-3rd quarter (me and my buds included)
48 years as a Cleveland Browns fan
never going to waste my time or money on this train wreck again - PRICELESS!

I hate to say it but even Joe Thomas, who until now I've really liked and respected, laid down and died yesterday. No heart on the bench, no heart on the field, no heart in the stands and if I owned this dog I'd shoot it.

My tickets were $110 and the drive was about 3 hours round trip, but I did it for 15 years - and then I stopped.

It's great. Everyone should try it.

I've been to several games. Have never seen them win since 1999. Saw them win a lot in the 70's and 80's.

in 16 years we've only drafted 13 pro bowlers. 10 of which we've either traded away or lost due to our inability or unwillingness to sign them in free agency. We've passed on so many players, some of whom will be Hall of Fame players.

The Browns have become a monument to dysfunction. It's sad, embarrassing and down right humiliating.

As long as they keep selling out games, filling the stadium, making a fortune on sales of merchandise and apparel, they will not worry about fielding a good team (IMHO). Frankly, Scarlet, I don't think they give a .....

I made the (very expensive) trip, in November, from the UK in a 4 win season. We deserve better we really do. Got punked again by the Bengals in our own house but Pettine was satisfied with the effort. The comment about every department looking in the mirror is telling, the wheels will fall off down the stretch. Loyalty is stubbornness. Everybody firing coordinators and our DC still employed. #satisfied

Just trying to add a couple things that haven't been beaten to death.

Cooper's first step is crazy fast. I'd love for our coaches to teach him how to take advantage of that.

Hartline has really come on the past few weeks.

I was surprised how well Davis played. Good for him.

The rest is pretty negative and looks like that's been covered.

Yeah, that one bugged the s..t out of me too man. How the frack could anyone be satisfied with that? I think that bugs me slightly more than DA throwing 4 picks and saying "At least I didn't throw 6" after losing a game(against the Nati) that would have clenched a playoff birth. DA was just a QB. Pettine is a HC. Losing should really piss him off. Somehow it just doesn't...... It's not fair to the fans like you that go out of their way to support the team. At the VERY least they could hire a coach that gives a crap.

There are some coaches who will rip a team to pieces in private, and say nothing bad about them in public.

As far as firing the coordinator(s), who would you replace them with at this stage in the season?
