Well done!

Mind sharing the camera, lens, exposure time and all that? Or does the sky just look like that where you are?

Picture was taken on Loveland Pass, about an hour from Denver. The yellow you see just above the mountain line is light pollution from Denver.

This picture is a 4 shot pano, shot with canon 7d mk 2, 17-50mm lens. Shot at 17mm, f/2.8, 20 second exposure.

Don't know how my Sony A58 stacks up, but I'm gonna try something like that. How much of that wouldn't have shown up if the exposure wasn't so long?

You need the long exposure to get it to look like that. To the naked eye, you could see where it was at, but without as much detail. Main thing is to get away from light pollution. Go out in the middle of nowhere, away from the cities. Also be aware of the moon phase. The closer you can get to the new moon, the better.

I got a chance to head to the Columbus zoo today. The zoo must be one of the most underrated attractions in our state. Please go to it!

These are not my photos but they are photos of something I had a major hand in creating. This is from a music festival I production build for. It's a 21' humpback whale, 6 man puppet. We brought it out over the heads of the crowd. The whale swam over everyone while chasing pink LED 'krill' around the amphitheater.
Eye candy.

I like! My next goal is to run around town and snap some night shots of the city before I head back to the edge of the Earth. I'd love to buy a light sabre for some long exposure fun at night...

I picked up a shutter release remote and a used camera bag today. The bag can hold all my gear, which isn't much, and it does a better job than my old one. I wanted a newer bag in the same style, but didn't want to shell out at least 50 dollars for one. My only concern is that it's not tightly sealed against weather, but it's the look I was going for in a bag. Location blurred as it's not my place. Here's the bag. What do all of you use for gear bags?

Dragging this old thread out again.
I know this is shameless self promotion but I'm pretty proud of me and my buddy for how beautiful this creation turned out. We spend months building our stuff but never really get to see what everyone else does. It's in the weeks following events that we start seeing write ups along with photos. The above photo is from an article, linked below. It's my favorite shot of the whale. Really capturing the essence of that moment in time.
Sorry for the self promotion but I've created a li of art in my life and this was maybe the most beautiful thing I've ever had a creative hand in.

This is a game piece from a board game called Zombicide. The pieces come blank so that you can do your own paint job. This one is just about finished, outside of a matt spray which will take away any gloss and make it look more natual.

Pretty fun activity for sure. My first try at painting miniatures. Detailing is quite difficult even with small brushes.

My time in Ohio soon comes to a close. I made the most of my time this past weekend; I went downtown for an Indians game on Saturday night, and I visited Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon.

Slowly I realize I can use pictures to tell the story of a moment in time. Storytelling, through pictures, ended up as my objective over the weekend.

Choice story moments from the Indians game:

These young men put the rock in rock n roll!

The day of the game was absolutely beautiful, but too bad the game itself was awful.

Link to the Indians story

A Fun Story from Pittsburgh:

Never hopped on this one in Kennywood, but the one at Geauga Lake rocked.

Thunderbolt remains as definitely one of my favorite wooden coasters.

Very nice! I've been taking pics of my son's games for years. He's a senior now and this is my last chance. These were taken from the stands. The lighting was crappy and I had to shoot Hi ISO to get a decent shutter speed.

BUMP! Make it a Mighty bump.

Had a little fun with complete darkness, exposure, and testing out a photo editing program I have. This is the result:

Man you guys take some good pics! I have a Canon DSLR T2i with 18-55mm lens and then a 55-250mm lens...I like to take outdoor scenery pictures and building while my wife is all about taking pictures of people..I am not sure what a good lens [or multiple] would be to compliment these. I like to take close up and also distant pics...living in Oregon, gray skies are common so lower light is normal.

Any suggestions on what I should get? I am a novice at best so any help is appreciated!

Also- I have been toying with getting a GoPro and I am so confused on what make/model to get. Anybody use them as well? I'm thinking of using it for outdoor activity - nothing too fast or furious!

A few from the Cavs game last night. Only allowed to bring a small lens and this is about as good as I could do.

The best aurora moment came on a plane ride up here; it was on my return for the school year.

I got into Anchorage around 2am, but I was in the air around midnight. During that time I saw the aurora, a bit higher than us, but it was dancing in the sky. There were soo many different colors, and it was a bit eerie, but cool!

My camera wouldn't have worked too well for various reasons on the plane frown

The sun sets early, the temperature is around zero, little to no clouds out at night, and all of that means prime condition for some astrophotography. Manual focusing this is such a pain in the rear...but my early results turn out okay. Here's a few choice ones from the past few weeks:

Starfields put lots into perspective. They make you feel tiny, and relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of it all. I like how I managed to snag a bit of the Aurora that my own eye couldn't see.

This one comes from tonight. I set out to try and get some semblance of the Milky Way, and I finally captured it.

Half of the Big Dipper sits in the frame. I need a way to crank up the brightness on my viewfinder to get all of it.

Had no idea the Aurora was even present when I took this shot. I caught some light off the village, too.

My best ones are the ones located in this thread. I may get a couple of more later tonight, and possibly tomorrow depending on how cloudy it may be. (Along with if I feel like heading out in subzero picture taking weather again....it's cold....)
