Like purp said, we are all speculating. I think that Pet has some big-time issues w/Bowe, but I can't believe he isn't playing Bowe because he wants to screw Farmer. He plays guys like Orchard over Mingo. He cut guys like Kitchen to play Cooper and Meder. Hartline has been a starter when healthy.

I don't know if any of you remember this---tab might, because he commented on it at the time---but, I made a post during the off-season that Bowe might end up being the most hated Brown in a long, long time.

I really liked Bowe in college. He was big, fast, strong, and put up big numbers. I thought he had a bright future, therefore, I have followed his career in the pros. He has had some good years, but has been a disappointment when you look at how highly he was rated in college.

Effort, partying, and toughness have been issues throughout most of his career. I think I posted a couple of articles where he had a bad case of alligator arms. One of those times was against the Steelers and the Chiefs were driving for either the lead or a tying TD, when their QB threw a high pass over the middle to a streaking Bowe. The latter did not have to jump, but would have needed to extend his arms and there was a S in the vicinity, but not too close. Bowe's hands never got above his shoulders and the announcers went nuts. KC fans and media blasted him for a long time, especially because it has happened again.

Thus, I think the problems have more to do w/Bowe than Pet trying to screw Farmer. While I think there are issues between Pet and Farmer, I do think Pet wants to win games. I suspect that Pet isn't playing Bowe because of DB's lack of preparation each week.

Don't know the exact words but lets just say you didn't like the pick up. I wish I could have seen him play to say one way or another about his talent.

All I do know is we are in dire need of a WR over the last several weeks and he is inactive over guys like Moore, Jennings and Pryor. So I trust the coaching staff enough to just say get rid of this bum when it best suits our cap. And you were correct about him! wink

I completely agree. That would be utterly stupid and career suicide.... that, and despite what some folks on here might suggest of Pettine, I just don't think that is his style at all to do something so petty and childish. He very much strikes me as the type that will just straight-up tell you to your face when there's a problem... he's not going to play stupid little games like that.

Browns is the Browns

So the power rankings were released today at SB Nation.. yea, they are meaningless, got it.. just found it funny that the Browns are 29 and the three teams they beat are 49ers 30, Ravens 31, Titans 32...

We are dominating the bottom of the power rankings.

The situation with Bowe is so absurd, that the whole "the simplest answer is usually the right one" doesn't apply here. There is literally no simple answer to why a vet that's paid like Bowe is inactive on game day and Pryor plays. It's either the player is so lazy and such an ass that the staff can't play him, or a coach on the hotseat is so petty that he's sitting a guy that could help him win just to stick it to the FO.

Both explanations are completely ridiculous, and I don't see another that makes sense.

and again... how much effort in the time he had on the field do you think he put forth?

I've seen it mentioned in this thread and I feel I must agree, this isn't about a rift between Farmer and Pettine when it comes to Bowe playing or not. I simply can't make any sense of that theory.

There are only 32 HC positions the NFL. Pettine's decisions here will have an impact on his career here, as well as anywhere else he goes. Losing games due to some conflict between him and Farmer, only serve to hurt Pettine's career and future earnings.

It has to be about Bowe himself. Whether Pettine is right or wrong about playing Bowe I can't say. But I do feel it's pretty safe to say Pet's reasons have nothing to do with Farmer.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The only thing I can come up with is he tore his hammy to the bone which is pretty bad. But usually PROS will have surgery.

The other is Pet didnt want him or when he got here he was not who Farmer described to us. Like anyone - if they didn't earn it they weren't getting there. So he has not been a leader in the WR room, does not work well with film and does not prepare well. So he sits and should get cut when we can to get the cap the right way.

To me this is what the issue is....at least from what little I have seen of him on the field he has not put forth any effort that I have seen.

I'm not saying Pet's reasons have anything to do with Farmer, but in general, you clearly underestimate human nature.

I don't believe that I do.

Human natures first instinct is about self preservation. Career, his family and their best interests come first. Now we can debate the rest of the list, but from my lifetime's experience, those are at the top of the list.

I disagree. First instincts are to fight back, stand up for yourself to perceived wrongs, let your ego drive the ship. It's only when things get to a certain point that self preservation kicks in.

Ego is a very powerful thing.

Plus, it's understanding risk and reward. Both of these guys can act like buffoons and both guys will land another job in the NFL.

Agenda about "human nature"?

You seem to think that because I am critical of Pettine, I am also not critical of Farmer. I am critical of both. Both have a long way to go to be competent. The fact that they are infighting paints both of them as buffoons.

But to assume Pit's take that these guys wouldn't let ego stand in the way of acting like idiots thus jeopardizing future job possibilities ... no, I don't agree with that.

That's ok if no one else agrees with me.

But isn't fighting back intended for the purpose of self preservation as Pit said?

Call it what you want but fighting back is an effort to preserve something be it ego, finances, stature, whatever.
