Can somebody break this down to me? Why are there so many tweaks and rule changes to both the democratic and republican debates this election cycle? i don't remember this from the previous elections.

CNN just made a major tweak to the rules for the next Republican debate

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/cnn-just-made-major-tweak-172019825.html

CNN unveiled on Friday the rules next month's Republican presidential debate — and one major tweak stands out.
In addition to meeting a certain threshold in national polls, candidates can qualify through their standing in polls of either of the first two voting states.

Some Republican critics complained that the four previous debates only used national polling to determine which candidates got to be on the main stage.

For the prime-time December 15 debate, however, the White House hopefuls can qualify either by getting 3.5% in national polls recognized by CNN, or 4% in surveys of either Iowa or New Hampshire.

According to CNN's Mark Preston, nine candidates would currently qualify for the big stage under those rules: real-estate mogul Donald Trump, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R).

But Paul may need to be worried. The senator is reportedly on the cusp of not making the main event, as he meets the national polling threshold but not the alternative, state-based polling criteria.

Additionally, CNN is keeping the so-called undercard debate for the lower-polling candidates who don't meet that criteria. For those second-tier contenders, they will need to reach 1% in four national or early-state polls recognized by the network.

CNN will only include polls between October 29 and December 13.

Greed. rolleyes It couldn't possibly be that there are 14 current candidates running, and a debate with 14 people on the stage means the audience really learns nothing unless you have a 4 hour debate?

There are too many Republicans. The Democrats are trying to get HRC elected. There's nothing more.

I'm just sad that this was not scheduled during a football Saturday.

I don't pay that close of attention but I don't remember a campaign where so many people lasted this long, maybe it's happened, I don't know. I think the tweak is to reduce the number of people to those considered viable... and get some of these people polling at 1-2% the heck off the stage.

What Trump said was dumb, but overall, i never seen so much hate for one guy from his own party before. jeez....

US Republicans move to dump Trump

http://news.yahoo.com/us-republicans-move-dump-trump-234604543.html

Washington (AFP) - Many say the populist crazy talk is typical of the White House primaries, but Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's increasingly incendiary remarks are leading some conservatives to brand him a "fascist" and party rivals to ramp up attacks against him.

Most spectacularly, the real estate tycoon recently said he would support registering Muslims in a database, and insisted -- despite lacking any evidence -- he saw Arabs in New Jersey cheer when the Twin Towers fell on 9/11.

His stance has become so belligerent that voices are asking, even inside his party, whether he is committed to democratic values.

Republican experts are warning that Trump could do lasting damage to the GOP, and that his nomination in the party primaries would essentially hand the presidency to Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

Several campaign teams in the primary race now appear to be coalescing around the need to oppose the celebrity billionaire's candidacy.

Establishment conservatives even took the unfathomable step of using the F-word against a member of their own party.

"Trump is a fascist. And that's not a term I use loosely or often. But he's earned it," Max Boot, a military historian and foreign policy advisor to Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio, posted on Twitter.

"Forced federal registration of US citizens, based on religious identity, is fascism. Period," added John Noonan, a national security advisor to former Florida governor Jeb Bush.

In its Tuesday editorial the New York Times said the past week of the campaign had been "dominated by Donald Trump's racist lies."

The Seattle Times used similarly strong language in a Wednesday editorial that denounced Trump's "button-pushing lie after button-pushing lie."

"Trump's campaign message reflects a kind of creeping fascism," the paper said. "It needs to be rejected."

Some campaigns have seemed reluctant to directly take on the Trump machine.

But Bush, struggling to gain traction in the race, piled on, telling Fox News Wednesday that Trump has been creating "an alternative universe" with his harsh rhetoric, particularly about Muslims.

"He doesn't know what he's talking about," Bush said of Trump's assertion that thousands of people were cheering on 9/11.

- 'Defeat and destroy' -

Many Republicans like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have argued that the climate sparked by the Paris attacks would lead voters towards experienced politicians -- not an untested commander in chief such as Trump.

But Trump's campaign has shown extraordinary resilience, and "the Donald" remains atop all major new polls despite fact-checkers debunking many of his statements.

"They say that Trump can do almost anything, and nobody leaves me. And it is true," Trump said at a rally Tuesday in South Carolina.

Republican groups are reportedly preparing attack ads against him including a political committee associated with conservative economic group Club for Growth.

Republican political operative Liz Mair has formed a new group, Trump Card LLC, that will fuel an anti-Trump ad blitz.

It aims to solicit funds from anonymous donors to help "defeat and destroy" Trump, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report.

A few anti-Trump videos have recently emerged. Ohio Governor John Kasich launched a one-minute web ad that links Trump to Nazi Germany.

The ad shows US Air Force colonel Tom Moe, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, paraphrasing the words of German pastor Martin Niemoller who spoke out against the Nazi regime.

"You might not care if Donald Trump says Muslims must register with their government because you're not one," Moe says in the clip.

"And you might not care if Donald Trump says he's going to round up all the Hispanic immigrants, because you're not one," he adds.

"But think about this: if he keeps going, and he actually becomes president, he might just get around to you. And you better hope that there's someone left to help you."

Oh look scare tactics and extreme hyperbole. Just another reason I hate republicans as much as the democrats. If it ends up being jeb bush vs hillary clinton you will know that there is no such thing as democratically elected presidents in our country anymore.

One other thing I read this book on my flight last night.

http://stephenhalbrook.com/gun_control.html

Holy mother of Jesus the wording in this reminds me of the same type of verbage some republicans and almost all of the democrats love to use about gun control.

Thought this post is relevant due to the words Nazi fascist ect..has been tossed around in the article and this forum.

Weather your right left or neither it is a fantastic read and HIGHLY recommend to anyone that enjoys that particular part of history.

I hope someone asks why the French have taken charge in Syria and bombed the heck out of ISIS command headquarters and cut their money supply by bombing ISIS oil fields when Obama has been bombing for a year and a half and forgot to take those things out himself.

you realize ISIS gets funding from other sources than oil, right?

you realize that it hasn't stopped ISIS in doing anything right?

y'all get so caught up in moving pieces and don't even bother to ask what the end goal is.

you more or less got distracted by a shining object.

i understand completely.

what i also understand is people have no idea how the propaganda machine works over there.

what i also understand is people don't even know who the good guys are over there.

ISIS wants to be bombed. people need to remember, to THEM, WE are the terrorist.

bombs and bullets will only work once we get the majority of people to side with us.

ideology bro.....

I'm all on board with Bernie Sanders. Sadly he stands no shot as he looks to upset the plutocracy we live in. People decry his tax policies, but only thing he wants to do is return us to a time of tax policy when Eisenhower, a republican of all people, was president.

People get caught up in the "he wants to tax 90%!!!", but in all reality no one will get taxed that much, but more will get pumped in than what is sitting in offshore accounts on random carribean islands.

And none of that matters as far as how he wants to increase the size of government, and explode government spending.

While I get that he wants to get the big money out of politics, how will he do that and have it be Constitutional? Well, he wants to add an amendment to the Constitution.

It is so incredibly difficult to change the Constitution, and that is by design by the founders. If money truly rules the political process, then how does Sanders propose managing to get this amendment through 2/3 of both houses of Congress, and then get 3/4 of the states to approve it?

In our 240 year history, we have ratified only 27 amendments to the Constitution. Most of those were added when the country was much smaller than it is today, or following the Civil War. (when southern state houses were controlled from the north) It is a difficult process. (done intentionally on the part of the founders)

The 27th amendment, the last one ratified, was ratified in 1992 ..... but was originally passed in the late 1700s. If that doesn't show how hard it is to pass a Constitutional amendment, nothing will.

Carson visiting Syrian refugees in Jordan

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is visiting Syrian refugees in Jordan this weekend.

Campaign manager Barry Bennett says the retired neurosurgeon will tour a major refugee camp on Friday and Saturday. He declined to release more details about the Middle East mission because of security concerns.

Carson is struggling to command foreign policy as it becomes a greater focus in the 2016 contest. Those close to him concede his fluency on foreign policy isn't yet where it should be.

Carson and his GOP rivals have condemned President Barack Obama's plan to welcome 10,000 Syrian refugees to the U.S.

Republicans are concerned terrorists may sneak in alongside those fleeing war-torn Syria.

It can only work if the electorate, being the majority of American citizens, end up educating themselves on the true nature of our oligarchic plutocracy. That's the main crux, but everyone would rather argue about Trump's hair, and Hillary's emails.

Most people are too worried about their own lives to be overly concerned about something like this. Plus .... many people in this country get far, far more out of the system than they ever put in ... so they aren't going to do anything to upset the gravy train. (which, I believe, is at least part of the reason for many of our social programs ..... to keep people housed, and their bellies full, so they don't take any action against the status quo)

Pretty much this right here. All of the candidates with huge money backing them look to keep the same financial status quo. People look at Hillary and Obama to decry financial policy, but neither want wall street reform. Just look at their policies.

The social policies slightly differ, but the financial plans remain the same across the board.

I'm watching this debate, I'm texting 2 of 4 my sisters. My wonderful Mother turned 90 today and we ended up having to call 911. She went to the Hospital, but we believe she was just overwhelmed.

Trying to pay attention to this, I kind of like Rubio so far. I don't normally talk politics, but I do like watching the debates.

I'm going to say a few things then get the hell out of this thread before all the political smarties eat me up and spit me out... smile

Question ? Why did the debaters tonight keep mentioning beating Hillary ?

opinion: I like Trump, Like I liked Ross Perot.

My reason: People want change,Change only comes from an event or person that's not from the norm.

Christie and Rubio are interesting also.
