Quote:
Today, Jeffrey Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles, released Head Coach Chip Kelly.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” said Lurie.

Coach Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Ed Marynowitz, vice president of player personnel, was also released. Tom Donahoe, former GM of the Buffalo Bills and director of football operations for the Pittsburgh Steelers and senior football advisor for the Eagles since 2012, will assume the role of senior director of player personnel.

A press conference will be held Wednesday, December 30 at the NovaCare Complex at Noon with Lurie.

Well that's big news.

Scary to think what he could create in Austin. That would be a MONSTER hire.

Pat Shurmer is the interim head coach. I'm buying NFL Ticket just for this week alone.

P.S. Might I just add - and probably even more important than my other comments - that I also like potato chips. Lays potato chips. (Regular a.k.a. Classic.) Thanks for your time! laugh

I'm excited I don't have to see NBC put the 'Eagles Time To Snap' clock graphic up anymore.

It was a blessing Kelly left us at the altar.

It sure seemed to be working until he went out and got rid of their best players (that fit his scheme) and got in quite a few players that didn't make any sense in his scheme. IMO he was clueless when it came to personnel moves in the NFL.

10-6, 10-6, 5-11, yeah we're too good for that.

Standard. I swear, I remember the same rhetoric about Peyton Manning when some suggested we should go hard at him. Too old, done, would never come here why even try.

Chip Kelly would be the best coach we've seen since Belicheck. But no, let's not do that. Sometimes I think this board has "smartest man in the room" syndrome, must have caught it from Ray Farmer.

Bro, it's his personnel decisions that are lacking. He made a ton of terrible personnel decisions over the last couple of years while demanding more and more power.

Additionally, the gimmicky Spread offense was okay at first, but teams caught up and his offense is pretty freaking pedestrian right now. It is also really bad in the red zone.

No thanks.

I'm surprised they couldn't wait one more week. Seriously what is the rush you can't give the guy the last week before kicking him to the curb?

The offensive line was hurt all season. Bradford simply cannot run, at all. They are 15th in offense. yards per game. Took 4-12 team to 20-12 before a 6-9 season did him in.

Who else we getting that is more qualified than that?

If he stays in the NFL, I bet he goes to the Titans w/ Mariota. Then Haslem tries to trade franchises again. tongue

Hated him as a Duck. Wanted no part of him the first time around and I made it known. Want no part of him now.
He was a massive egomaniac in Eugene. It transferred to the pros where he rubbed players the wrong way. He outsmarted himself by casting aside pro bowl talent to acquire 'his guys'....
He got what I figured he'd get. Canned. Now he'll do what I said he'd do 3 years ago when he left Oregon...slink back to the college ranks where he can be king of his castle again.
He parlayed winning a down Pac 12, with USC on serious scholarship penalties, into a huge paycheck. I'm just glad it wasn't from Halsem.

So it sounds like he was asked to give up personal decisions and Kelly cried and refused... and got canned for his troubles.

#Eagles did not tell the players that Chip has been fired.

One just found out when I reached out to him for comment.

Schadenfreude.

1. Philly fans deserve their pain.
2. There is deeper dysfunction someplace other than Berea.

_____________

Man... I thought Chud got some pretty shoddy treatment. He was at least able to finish the season and say goodbye to a few folks. This sets a new benchmark for 'harsh.' Even the players didn't know!

He won't go hungry. Some of these guys feel they have to make all the decisions and do it their way.... when given that power, you better succeed. Botch Davis would tell you the same thing.
