I don't think that's true, but they can't guarantee him a job and aren't going to stand in his way of interviewing for others.
I read this morning that they have told Flip, O'Connell, Hafley, and Glenn they would like to retain them if the new coach is on board.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I think that we keep them if Patricia or McDermott take the HC position but replace them if it's Hue. Just a guess that the defensive coaches would keep the offensive staff but that the O guy would want to bring in his own.

I thought Flip did an excellent job. Was it because Pet was helping? All I know I thought he did an excellent job with the QBs and at the end of the year the Running game was starting to come along as well.
Thanks GM didn't have a clue of the O stats. I would say in his short stint here of one season he did earn some attention from the rest of the league.
Shanny knows a lot but sometimes I don't think he has the gift to execute what he knows. I see he had Ryan digress in his O. So in a lot of ways Flip was a better OC for us and maybe just better OC period.

I wouldn't be against keeping those guys. Let's hope they can bring in a decent line coach if they do retain the offensive staff.

What has Flip really accomplished to earn such an honor from any team? Exactly. Yeah, exactly... He's young, creative and I liked how he portrayed himself in the pressers I watched, but head coach? IMO he should be happy to land more OC interviews. One year as OC with nothing but Qb coaching experience, I'd say he's got alot to prove. With that said, and JMO, but I hope he gets a chance to do that here. I think with a run scheme that works that Flip's play book becomes elite. JMO.

John DeFilippo among 4 Browns assistants asked to stay; Jim O'Neil, Chris Tabor not included Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has been asked to stay, but already has other opportunities. (Joshua Gunter, Cleveland.com) Print Email Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com By Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com on January 11, 2016 at 10:50 AM, updated January 11, 2016 at 11:46 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo is among four assistants the Browns have asked to stay if the new head coach wants them, a league source told cleveland.com. The list does not include defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor, who spent five years with the club. The other three asked to stay are quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell, secondary coach Jeff Hafley, and assistant defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn. The chosen four can interview with other teams if the Browns grant permission, and DeFilippo has already done so. He interviewed for the 49ers head coach vacancy last week and will talk to the Rams on Tuesday about their offensive coordinator opening. The four were called into a meeting with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam last Monday, a day after he fired Mike Pettine. The coaches not asked to stay still must get permission from the Browns to interview with other teams. Others not on the 'wanted' list include offensive line coach George DeLeone, running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery, receivers coach Joker Phillips, tight ends coach Brian Angelichio, assistant secondary coach Bobby Babich, linebackers coach Chuck Driesbach, assistant wide receivers coach Frank Edgerly, outside linebackers coach Brian Fleury, and special teams assistant Shawn Mennenga. But if the coaches plan to go to the NFL job fair also known as the Senior Bowl in two weeks, they'll have to pay for it themselves, a source said. Teams don't usually pay for outgoing assistants to attend the game if they're still under contract. The Senior Bowl situation was first reported by Peter King of The Monday Morning Quarterback. Related: Hue Jackson impressed with Browns and vice versa Related: Hue Jackson impressed with Browns and vice versa Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson interviewed with the Browns and 49ers on Sunday. Both sessions went well, but Jackson might have an opportunity to interview with Giants now too, according to a report. King also reported that the assistants won't have the option of purchasing two Super Bowl tickets. But a source told cleveland.com that's no longer the case. Originally that's what they were told, but now they can buy the tickets. O'Neil became expendable after the defense finished 27th overall, including 30th against the run. Outside linebacker Paul Kruger questioned the defense's lack of adjustments from week-to-week and also lamented the way he was used. His sack totals tumbled from 11 in 2014 to 2.5 this year. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss..._social_feature

I'm not surprised they are interested in keeping Flip and O'Connell, though in a vacuum I'd be fine with letting Flip go.
No mention of Weaver one way or another. Maybe just been an oversight on the part of the writer.

Not interested in retaining O'Neil? Gee, I wonder why?
Tabor may finally be looking for a new job. With all the blocked field goals and penalties that wiped away good returns, it's not completely shocking they're willing to let him finally walk.

No. Jackson was with the Raiders in 2010 (offensive coordinator) and 2011 (head coach). DeFilippo was with the Raiders twice, 2007-2008 and 2012-2014.

So it sounds like Coughlin might get the 49ers job (weird) and if he does, he will try to bring Flip as his offensive coordinator.
At the very least, Flip is a popular man. Seems like people approve of the job he did for us in 2015. He will have some real leverage to try and get a raise.

He did decent.
I wonder if O Neil will be working at Home Depot or lowes.

Way too early for him as HC, thought he "possibly" could have sniffed and landed another OC job but... evidently a little too early for that as' well.

Do we wanna go back and see who said what? yEP i AM WILLING TO GO BACK. 20 years from now Flip will either be a very popular head coach or offensive cord. He will have a long history of being successful in the NFL. Go ahead and quote me on that so I can really look good 20 years from now.

jmho Sure. Those 16 rushing touchdowns we scored under Shanahan weren't missed one bit this season. Flip is the most pass happy OC we've ever had. I won't miss him. Someday he might make one hell of an OC. Once he figures out that running the ball is pretty important. Especially in THIS division.

My great uncle had a heart the size of a football for much of his life. He died on the table a couple times in the early 50's and was told he had 6 months to live. He passed in the 1990's at the age of 87. Of course I don't know your diagnosis, but Dr.s aren't infallible. *Fingers Crossed* you're around a GOOD long time man. Peace
