I agree, but I don't really like that's it's one strike and you're out rule. I'm not suggesting I want three strikes, maybe two is better, I've just seen too many instances where the refs might be too safe and toss a guy on the 3rd play of the game. And far too often, the guy they tossed is the best player on the defense.

What about the first targeting gets you thrown out for the existing series and maybe two more and the second targeting foul is the rest of the game?

The lesson is The Steeler get away with it and the other teams do not.

How can Porter not be flagged??? Just saying for those who defend the Steelers and state they do not get preferential treatment...just seems that way over and over and over again especially in the playoffs.

Yeah not the message the NFL was looking to make. It takes two classless teams to do what happened.

All I keep remembering is WHYCHE going on the stadium speaker saying We are not Cleveland we are better than that....

As I see a BEER can get tossed on the cart driving Big Ben away and read about all the classless acts by the fans during and after the game. I never read about more WOMEN getting punched in the face. And they have the nerve to say our Browns fans have no class.

Adam Jones fined $29K; Steelers' Porter fined $10K

The fines are in from last Saturday's Steelers-Bengals game, and they are hefty.

Bengals corner Adam Jones was fined $28,940 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct, a league spokesmen told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Jones made contact with an official, which caused the second of two personal foul penalties to be called at the end of the game.

Steelers coaches Joey Porter and Mike Munchak were each fined $10,000 each. Porter was infamously on the field during the series of penalties. He crossed the sideline after Antonio Brown was hit by Vontaze Burfict and sustained a concussion. Though coaches are typically not allowed on the field, Porter was believed to be showing concern for a player. Bengals players, including Jones, accused Porter of cursing at them while on the field.

Munchak was caught on camera pulling the hair of Bengals safety Reggie Nelson after the two ran into each other on the sideline.

As for the other players present amid the chaos: Bengals Domata Peko and Wallace Gilberry were fined $8,681 each. Petko was fined for unnecessary roughness and Gilberry was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Rounding out the list, Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster was hit with a $17,363 fine for a leg whip.

Obviously, the big names here are Jones, Munchak and Porter. The three, along with Burfict, were at the center of Saturday's madness and have all been penalized pretty seriously. It was previously announced that Burfict would miss the first three games of next season.

If we learned anything from this season, it's that those fined in a very public matter will have to watch out during the ensuing weeks. Officials won't want to see anything like last week's game happen again.

There is absolutely no reason that a coach should initiate physical contact on an opposing player. He should have been fined and suspended for that. Yet, Steeler fans would find nothing at all wrong with this.
Could you imagine if a Browns assistant physically confronted an opposing player? The NFL is setting some horrible precedents when it comes to the light punishments handed out. Of course, the league will only drop the hammer on bottom of the barrel teams like Cleveland...

I really think that Munchak should have been suspended for a game. That is just inexcusable. Coaches should not be involved physically with opposing players.

In a league with 53 man rosters where the league minimum is 6 figures, a 10,000 dollar fine, (which who knows who will pay) is pocket change, lunch money.

Who wouldn't give up lunch money to ensure there team continues on to the next round..

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Porter should have been fined for being on the field, and it seems he is. Running his mouth, talking smack ... not so much. If people got flagged for talking smack then these games would never end.

PacMan runs his mouth all of the time. He got ticked because someone was flapping at him for a change and he lost his crap. He went to get in Porter's face and bumped a ref on his way there. That gets you a flag everytime, especially in a heated, tense crowd like that.

I believe Porter knew what he was doing. He targeted a hot-headed unstable mental midget and it worked. Honestly, I have no issues with it.

Who said anything about flagging for smack...and guess what a coach on the sidelines can get flagged for talking Smack with a player on the field.

But my point is that he was ON THE FIELD where asst. are not allowed and he was not helping the down player he WAS TALKING SMACK...that was my point.

Player to player smack talk is different than coach to player smack talk. IMHO, coaches need to stay above it, not become a part of it. If a DB and a WR want to talk smack to each other, fine, go work it out on the field and see who wins.... but coaches need to stay out of it. The coaches are supposed to be the authority figures... it's like being in HS and your vice principal yells at you, as the student you have no recourse, you can't yell back at him and you can't tell him you will meet him after school to see how bad he really is... for that reason, coaches need to stay out of it and if they get involved, should be punished MORE harshly than the players.

LOL.. probably not. I do know the way it used to be... and i've heard stories about kids not having any respect for authority and saying anything to anybody because they don't fear any punishment.. so maybe that wasn't the best analogy, but the theory still stands, coaches should stay out of the in-game trash talking.
