This guy must not be very good. I read the new set up was going to scare off the good coaches. How could this be?

On a serious note, good hire. He is creative, has had head coaching experience to draw upon, is well respected in coaching circles, and by all accounts is a leader of men who like to play for him.

I also feel he will be able to draw in quality assistant coaches which is a big part of the battle.

He had experience as a HC which should help. He doesn't have to go through the learning curve from coordinator to HC which is not an easy transition.

I like that he is an offensive guy. Not that a defensive guy is not worthy I just like that he comes from the offensive side of the ball.

As the Bengals OC it helps that he comes with knowledge of the division. In addition I really liked what the Bengals were doing offensively under Jackson.

He has a good reputation from the players who have played for him. He seems to communicate well.

I find it interesting that the 49ers and Giants were after him and he selected the Browns. Since everybody in the media portrayed the Browns job as the worst position available and that the environment was toxic etc. The the new orc chart was off the wall and will never work etc. etc.

So now we have a HC. Now we need a GM who will work with Jackson and be a guy who can really draft talent. After that get a good DC who believes in rushing the passer and forcing the action on defense.

I like this move.

When has being a HC for ONE season become "experienced"? He was a HC for one single season. To me that is inexperienced.

We already have our GM. We may hire a guy we CALL the GM, but Sashi Brown is in charge of the roster and that makes him the REAL Manager of this team.

It's experience because he did it for a year. I know what you mean, but 1 season is long enough that the guy was able to reflect and think about things he would change when given another chance.

Look at it this way...he has experience, but not so much he can't be called a retread. I think this is a pretty good blend myself.

Kaepernick has a huge contract. I would only want him if he restructured his contract to a much lower number. Even then I would still draft a QB high.

I would guess that Chip Kelly wants a shot with Kaepernick if he gets the 49ers job.

Kaepernick, who was benched by the 49ers this season, has had three surgeries in the past two months, and most think he's finished in San Francisco.

I hadn't heard this. Anybody know what surgeries he's had?

Shoulder and knee. (and 1 other than escapes me right now)

arch...it's hard to be excited when I know that Jackson could be toast in a year or two.

..and it doesn't matter what Haslam says to media and fans, we already know his words are meaningless. Hopefully Jackson realizes what he got himself into, with Haslam as his boss.

I like the hire, but I have little to no faith that he'll get time to implement his players and scheme.

This is where I am at. I like everything he's done (meaning Haslem) since firing everyone, but if he isn't going to give these guys time......and more importantly stay out of their way....then it is all for naught.

Hopefully he does, but I'm in wait and see mode on that one.

You might be right. I have no problem firing Pettine/Farmer based on some of the stories coming out about the dysfunction, but the Chud/Banner deal still has me concerned.....good people that weren't given a chance.

The guys we have brought in this time seem like good people as well, and I hope Haslem has learned his lesson from being a dope......we will see.

I don't think Haslam has shortchanged us on effort in the past. No doubt some of the decisions weren't correct, but he doesn't stick with those decisions.

Here's hoping he cleans house and changes everything. I want a REAL 4-3 defense. I want us to ATTACK on D. Pressure pressure pressure! I want an offense that RUNS the football. Let our new coach run HIS schemes and bring in HIS people. It's HIS ass on the line after all....

I HOPE that our new HC brings in highly competent EXPERIENCED coordinators. We will see.

I personally hope they don't chose between either a 4-3 or 3-4. Continue their quest making the front seven a multi-front. Get the DBs in order so pressure and run game can be addressed.

Wrongo. I said a while back, I'll get excited about a new coach when he shows me I should be excited.

I'm flat out done getting all worked up over a new coaching hire, or the draft. I don't blame anyone if they are excited - but I will point to every head coach we've had and how excited most were about "this guy........"

Nope, awesomeness is trending even higher than before.

The press conference will be broadcast live any minute now on the NFL network. Beats watching the stuttering steam from the Browns site.

I am excited about this hire! I haven't been excited about a Browns HC hiring since Mangini.I hated the Shurmur hire. Chud and Pettine were both kinda okay we will see feels for me. I am excited to see what Hue can do. Hopefully Haslam gives him the time to turn the team around.

Some seem to NOT realize Jackson wasn't fired due to poor performance but was rather caught up in a regime change.

Hue Jackson does have experience as a coach as well as a year as HC. It sounds like he has some smarts. I don't think he would have taken this job, especially with our history, if he didn't ask questions about how things were going to work, who he would be directly answering to and how he would fit in with it all. He must have liked what he heard. Welcome coach Jackson and as a lifelong Browns fan I wish you all the best!!!

He's light years ahead of Pettine as far as being well spoken.

Good hire. I wanted Pat, but this means we'll have a better coaching staff, hopefully. Get things done quicker.

People are delusional if they think the 49ers are a better opening than the Browns. Better to work for a crazy owner, than a crazy GM who has the crazy owner's ear.

Having just watched his introduction/press conference I must say he seems likeable enough. He seems genuinely happy to be the head coach.

So....

While I truly wish we would have hired an experienced head coach. Preferably one with a ring or two.... I will keep an open mind and give the man a chance. As long as he hires a quality DC(hopefully a 4-3 guy) and we run the damned ball next year, I'll be fine with this hire. I can see why he has so many fans. He is charismatic. Something Pettine was SERIOUSLY lacking. He seems intelligent and motivated. Was hard not like the guy. We shall see....

Lets pray he hires a top notch staff.....

--Browns fans love them some new coaches. The Haslams are perfect owners for you because you know they are going to blow things up every year or two.

--So Hue says he wants nothing to do w/Manziel? Way to boost his trade value, coach. rolleyes

--Is this the same Hue Jackson who had his players chant his name? Seriously?

--I think he is a bright offensive mind. I also think he is a whack job.

--I can't wait for these comments:

*This guy is a genius.
*Things really seem different this time.
*So, this is how you build a team?
*Everyone just give this guy a chance.
*The new regime needs five years. Continuity is important.
*The Steelers are on a downswing. I like our chances.
*This is the best feeling I have had about the Browns....like, you know.....Ever!!! <giggle>>
*You haters are clueless.
*You are such a Negative Nancy.
*The bozos are making things up because they hate us.
*Go root for the Steelers, troll!!!

Definitely watch it all. I went in to it holding my nose a bit and came away fairly impressed. He's not my choice, but he seems genuinely enthusiastic about building a team and working with the analytics gang.....He is very charismatic and easy to warm to. Not the cold fish Pettine was. Might gain him some time....

Lets see if his enthusiasim translates to wins.

Well, I said, ever since word came out that Pettine was in trouble, that Hue Jackson was my 1st choice is we made a change. I figured that the Browns would screw it up, but surprisingly enough, I think that they hired one heck of a football coach. I also think that e will have a strong staff. I think that he is respected around the league, and a lot of coaches will want to work for him. I will also say that I like the fact that he is a guy who tailors his offense to the players he has, as opposed to trying to force players into roles they cannot fill. I was a guy who wanted stability, but since that blew up, this is my best case scenario.

As far as Manziel ........Manziel has no trade value right now. I was a "wait and see" kind of guy when it came to him, but he has screwed up way too often. The rest of the NFL sees that too. What draft pick did he "screw up"? A conditional 7th round pick? What team is going to trade for him? Dallas? Are they going to bid against themselves? At this point, I think that if we get a conditional 6th for Manziel, we will be doing really well.
