haha, no no no, i live in cleveland bro.

but i boarded a lot with my wife's brothers in germany. the slopes in austria are only about a 5 hour drive from mannheim, so we'd drive on the weekend a lot out there.

we had military discounts for oakley, so we'd hit the outlet stores around the PX/commissary and buy the googles and such.

i paid about 200 for a pair of DC boots, still have them!!

we rented the boards, i wanted to buy one but then i hard orders to be stationed in Ft. Sill, oklahoma.

i learned a lot, like the board length/width depends on your height and weight, and the different kind of boards depending on what style you'r riding (mountain, free style, etc)

Good one.

It's just everywhere. First my wife and I have been working on being more efficient just getting stuff done. Grocery shopping, laundry, general housework, getting my daughter places, etc.. seems like we waste a ton of time because we don't plan well enough.

Second is outside time wasters... church is a big one for me. I enjoy most of it but once you get involved in a church, your phone never stops ringing... everybody wants you on this committee or participating in that event.. sometimes I wish I had just stayed anonymous in the back. I like to help with stuff, I just don't like the committees and things that meet regularly and create a consistent obligation.

My job, I like my job but they are always asking for volunteers to head up new initiatives, speak at company functions, etc.. and I hate to say no. And they can take up a lot of time, and it's not like they give you a break on the other stuff you have to do so you have time to do it.... it's in addition to.

Projects around the house, nothing new gets started until a couple of the old ones get done.. and never more than one going at a time any more...

So my decluttering... if it doesn't improve my relationships with family and/or close friends... or if it doesn't benefit my career in some tangible way... or if it just flat out doesn't make me happy... I'm going to have to say no. (still trying to figure out how the Browns fit one of those. tongue )

Well, the Raleigh Browns Backers DO meet at the Tilted Kilt if that helps any thumbsup Turns out the owners/managers are from the Cleveland area!

May the Lord be with you both.

My goal for this year is to become a Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. I have one class down, and have 4 more to go. I am hopeful that I can take one or two online. That would be so much easier for me.

I am currently a certified Lay Servant, which means that I can speak from the pulpit in my own "home" church. When I become a Lay Speaker, I will be able to fill in at other churches as kind of a guest pastor, if needed, and if I choose to do so. I might even be able to have a small church of my own, if one opens up. I don't know if I want to go that far, but who knows where God will lead me? Then, from there ...who knows? Maybe I'll go forward to becoming a Lay Minister. I don't think that I would be able to go through all of the classwork that would lead to a clergy position, and frankly, I don't know if I would want to do that anyway, but I am excited to learn more within the United Methodist Church.

how long does it typically take to knock all of that out, like if you was to go straight through to Lay Minister?

They usually have up to 4 rounds of classes per year, so I could knock out the classes for Lay Speaker in another year. They usually want at least Lay Speaker before they consider a person for Lay Servant.

Here are the requirements for Lay Minister:

¶ 271. Certified Lay Minister | The United Methodist Church
http://www.umc.org/what-we-believe/para-271-certified-lay-minister

Certified Lay Minister-In order to enhance the quality of ministry to small membership churches, expand team ministry in churches and in deference to an expression of gifts and evidence of God's grace associated with the lay ministry of early Methodism, the certified lay minister is to be recognized and utilized.

1. The certified lay minister shall preach the Word, provide a care ministry to the congregation, assist in program leadership, and be a witness in the community for the growth, missional and connectional thrust of The United Methodist Church as part of a ministry team with the supervision and support of a clergy person.

2. A certified layservant or a person with equivalent training as defined by his/her district or conference may be certified as a lay minister by the District Committee on Ordained Ministry after he/she has:
a) Been recommended by the pastor of the local church where he/she holds membership and by vote of the church council or charge conference.
b) Completed courses relevant to his/her assignment including preaching and exegesis, the care of the congregation, and other courses as recommended by the General Board of Discipleship and General Board of Higher Education and Ministry in consultation with leaders in the annual conference, and other appropriate agencies and organizations.
c) Demonstrated appreciation of the history, polity, doctrine, worship and liturgy of The United Methodist Church through service in his/her local church.
d) Been recommended by the district superintendent after completion of appropriate screening.
e) Made application in writing to the District Committee on Ordained Ministry.
f) Appeared before the District Committee on Ordained Ministry for review and approval.

3. The certified lay minister is to apply in writing for recertification biannually to the District Committee on Ordained Ministry upon:
a) Ministry review by church council or charge conference from the congregation of which he/she is a member.
b) Satisfactory completion of an approved continuing education event, and
c) Recommendation of the district superintendent.

4. The certified lay minister under assignment is to appear bi-annually before the District Committee on Ordained Ministry for recertification after:
a) Ministry review by church council or charge conference where assigned,
b) Satisfactory completion of an approved continuing education event, and
c) Recommendation of the district superintendent.

5. Transfer of Certification by Certified Lay Ministers
A certified lay minister who moves may transfer certification to the new district upon receipt of a letter from the previous district's Committee on Ordained Ministry confirming current certification.

6. The certified lay minister is a layperson and as such is not eligible for support by equitable compensation funds or pension that are provided for clergy members. The local congregation is encouraged to provide appropriate compensation.

Be glad you don't have two teens on your insurance. Our insurance went form under 100 bucks a month to around 450 per month when both of my kids were on the insurance.

Lol, good luck.

I have thought that we should have opposite day on the board where everybody argues in favor of those things they normally oppose and vice versa. One of the keys to being a good debater is being able to argue your opponents point of view as well. Unfortunately I suspect it would just turn into even greater sarcasm, mocking, and hyperbole than we usually see and would not be as productive as it could be.

Well, first thing on my list is done - daughter got her permit. (it's fairly easy anyway)

She didn't want to drive on the highway because it was snowing and the speed limit is 65. I told her she wouldn't have to drive 65, and the roads were clear anyway. So, I drove til we got in the country, then stopped and made her drive.

When she was taking the written test this video kept running through my head - but at least it didn't come to this:

I didn't post the 5+ minute clip - but that would've been close to how she was, filling the paper work out.

On the way for the test she asked me "what if I don't pass?" I told her that her friends would make fun of her for a few days. And, I would tease her about it forever.

She couldn't remember my middle initial, nor her mom's middle initial. She was nervous to the max. Stomach ache, sweaty palms. Nervous talking. (

Driving, she had a death grip on the steering wheel. At the first stop sign, she took her hands off the wheel and wiped the sweat off on her jeans.

Fun morning.

Sounds like something to remember the rest of your lives!

Brought back memories of taking my 3 kids and how each handled it differently. Fond memories. Thanks.

What could possibly be the middle name of a man named Daddy?

I find this to be racist and quite offensive! Oh, that's right, you're white. Well, okay then.

I could. When I was 17 and 18. 1 handed, 2 handed. 6'2" tall. Didn't take long for that ability to completely go away. Anymore, I don't even jump.

I could dunk, when I went on my heavy duty physical fitness campaign about 10 years ago. I blew the minds of some kids I worked with at the time.

Maybe that's why I'm all broken down now, only 10 years later. crazy

Plan this year is to reduce my debt load to 1 item: My house. I think I can do it because I have 10k left on my student loans and that's it besides the mortgage.
