I go to walterfootball quite a bit because it's got a lot of prospect info on it early in the year. I'm not a huge fan of Walter's scouting but the other guy that does it on there, Charlie Campbell seems pretty good.
All these QB threads. All these takes. It's become unreadable.
just do like me and base your decisions are your own evaluations of watching video footage and not just the highlight reels if your health allows for it. I just wish I didn't have to wait for HOFer Brady to retire so I could get proven right or wrong on Garoppolo hehe.
I just enjoy reading a bit here and there of what others think so I can keep an eye out for it while analyzing video footage. I feel like I do a pretty spot on job on evaluating QB's though.
Paxton will be great. Goff will be a decent QB who is a game manager. Wentz will struggle a few years if he can't learn to put more zip on his ball because his floaty balls are going to get picked off a lot at the NFL level I think.
I think Paxton is the only QB worthy of a first round grade in this draft and a mid first at that. Goff a high to mid 2nd round pick and Wentz about a 3rd to 4th round pick(because of the lack of zip I have seen on his passes).
Still JMHO.

I assume its free. A lot of sites I see especially after the top 100 have the same reports for the prospect with maybe some minor verbiage changed.
I like to see myself but every year I have less and less time (wife is so good to me got to give her attention back) so we hold hands and watch TV a lot. Without kids to occupy her attention I have less time to sneak downstairs and spend time on the computer.
jmho - just some sharing for the young guys to absorb... lol
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

his floaty balls
Are those anything like Schweddy Balls?

Yes a free site, (maybe a little ad heavy if you have a slow computer) and he definitely doesn't rehash other guys scouting reports.
and tab if you haven't noticed, the dog is getting jealous.
yeah his drafts suck but his player evals are good.
something i learned today was that the video i was watching of wentz throwing was him playing injured so now i have to find new footage of him playing when his wrist was not hurt. arg so annoying. Still due diligence is required.

It was interesting to me that when they interviewed Wentz at the Senior Bowl practice that he mentioned that he also played baseball, basketball, and hockey as well as football. (He also carried a 4.0 GPA in college and won the highest academic achievement award.)
Playing those sports requires unique athletic skills. Each sport so very different.
He comes across as a clean cut hard worker.
From a football perspective the offense run at UND is not that far from the NFL.
Lynch although not his fault comes from a totally different offense that is not like what he will need to learn in the NFL.
Wentz is the guy at this point that really has my interest. I have watched all the games and see they type of skills that any coach would love to work with.
JC: One of my biggest issues with Wentz is simply lack of experience. He's coming from a D1-AA program where he only played 2 seasons, the 2nd of which he missed 6 games with a broken wrist. So he played like one Division 1A team in his two seasons of playing.
On the other hand, someone like Goff played 3 seasons for Cal, against Pac12 Competition.
I'd like to see my QB have a little more college experience than Wentz. Especially with an early pick.

Walter gives me a different take than CBS. He has no respect for the Browns and it shows in his comments.
Yeah and he gets a little exaggerated about his opinions. I don't know how many years he wanted us to try and trade the entire team to trade up for QB. He was right about it once, when it was Luck, but not so much on some of these stooges.

Playing all those sports shows a love of the game in general as well. That's a big plus in my book.
Ideally you would love a four starter coming from a big program. You want as much experience as possible.
However, Wentz is what he is. You have to look at his tape and evaluate what is there.
You look at Goff and you see a different guy. He comes from a spread offense. Wentz ran a more NFL friendly offense.
In the end you just have to measure them all and determine who you believe fits what you are looking for and you feel has the potential to be your guy.
Hard not to like this young man. He presents himself very well.
For me I am going to enjoy this process of evaluating these QB prospects over the next three months. It is exciting.
Since Bernie I have been waiting for a quarterback to believe in. The Browns have not had a guy that in my mind was legit.
I don't know if any of these guys will pan out. But I kind of like looking at the top four from a comparison basis. Each guy is different.
In following this thread which I started on 12/26 so much has changed. Now it is beginning to feel like Wentz just fits to the mold of what Jackson and company may be looking for.

It seems like Wentz is getting press because he is available to people at the Senior Bowl. He is what people can see right now. With that said, he has done everything right so far.
My guess is that when the combine rolls around, that Goff will have similar feel good stories/interviews written about him.
Why did Connor Cook withdraw from the Senior Bowl? Was he injured? He could have done a lot to change the perception around himself if he was participating.
I watched the above video. Wentz sure is green. It probably doesn't matter, but it's weird to see a top QB prospect with no polish.
It's why I laugh when people say he's more ready than Goff. Wentz is very, very raw. People are falling in love with his physical tools. Scouts do it ALL the time.
No, that is not what I am trying to say. However, you do realize that Cal had more offensive talent, right?
I'd say they probably did. But not that far ahead. At least in the one game I watched this year of NDST (where I wasn't keying in on Wentz, just was watching the only college football game on TV), North Dakota State was pretty darn good. They're a very well coached team. They lost in a thriller to Montana (or Wyoming, not sure which). Wentz (I assume it was Wentz) put his team in position to win at the end, but they lost. Stadium was packed too. I was impressed.
BUT, it's just a different level of competition that played against. And that does mean something. Like the NFL, windows are tighter, things happen faster. There's no questioning that IMO. Doesn't mean that he won't adapt to the NFL though. It's something to factor in. After all, the Ravens got Flacco from Deleware and the Cowboys got Romo from Eastern Illinois. Flacco was able to start right away, and I think in his first career NFL Start he beat us (if I remember correctly). And I'd say that a 2nd overall pick for either of those guys would have been worth it for sure.
But, I would say Goff has an advantage in terms of experience. 3 year starter at Cal, who had to compete with high level competition regularly.
No, that is not what I am trying to say. However, you do realize that Cal had more offensive talent, right?
Which I think is part of the point. He's used to playing with better players and he's used to playing against better players... that's no guarantee he will be better, it's just one thing to consider.
However, there is still 3 months to go before the draft. Over that time more information will come out on the other guys as well.
Found this interesting since Jeremiah was a scout and has a lot of direct access to prospects and other NFL evaluators: ======================================================
"Carson Wentz has been phenomenal down here,'' Jeremiah, a former Browns scout, said on NFL Network Thursday. "The first thing you notice is the size he has. He's 6-5, 230-plus, so he cuts the image of the quarterback you want to see at the next level. Footwork-wise, he's someone who's been under center at North Dakota State, so he's very clean and crisp getting away, and then you see the arm strength.
"You see the ball jump out of his hands. He can make every throw out here. And even more importantly than that, he shows that he belongs, carrying himself like a leader, kind of taking things over with the Cowboys' coaching staff.
"It couldn't go much better than it's gone for Carson Wentz thus far.'
I have a question.. with that size and arm strength, why was he at ND State and not at a more high profile program? Was he not recruited? Were there issues with injuries? Academics? Was he just a late bloomer? Just curious.

He was a wide receiver until his senior year of high school.

That's funny, just yesterday on NFLN Senior Bowl Practice Recap they noted how he was slow in his dropback, even cutting off a five step drop to a three step to get the ball out on time on an out route, and that his passes don't seem to have the same zip they saw on tape against the grocery baggers. But different guys see different things, so to be expected I guess.

He said in his interview on NFLN it was a combination of baseball shoulder injury and late growth. Was offered several FCS schools but no FBS schools.

I thought about saying something about Pac12 defenses, but I'm in enough arguments right now.
Still only allowed to carry that one bullet, Deputy?

He's always been knocked for his footwork, especially on the short routes. It's something he is really going to have to work on a bunch.
I still see a mid first rounder. If we were to draft him, I wouldnt blame them as i see the upside but he has a lot to clean up. I do think with a little work he can turn that strong arm into a very strong arm. Gotta clean up that lean he likes to do sometimes that telegraphs when he is gonna throw or he will get a lot knockeddown at this level.
I have a question for anyone who cares to take a shot at it. (well, a series of questions on a single theme)
No matter what kind of competition a QB faced, can't a team evaluate him fairly well by looking at his ball placement and other skills that are not necessarily dependent on his players, or the players he faced? If a guy can drop a ball in the bucket under game circumstances, can't he be projected to do so against better competition? Either the guy has that particular skill, or he doesn't. either he can fit a ball into somewhat tight windows, or he can't. Either he can hit a receiver in motion, leading that receiver safely, or he cannot. Aren't there a lot of traits that can be evaluated, no matter what level the guy plays at?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
