He is exceptional in pass blocking

not quite how I would characterize him at.

My point Statistically is stating to equal or get a acceptable RT and the skill SET of a Mitchell Schwartz is a lot more prospects to choose from than the skill set for LT.

Of course that is to get a Schwartz of the caliber of him as a rookie.

Fact is he has improved every year and gotten better. But Pass Pro is not his best virtue.

I would agree...compared to his run blocking, it is not his best virtue- especially against those faster edge rushers. However he is still good in protection. And yes he has been getting better every year.

It would have been ideal to extend him before the year began or sometime during it.

I know Schwartz balked on the initial offer before the season started but it's interesting that the team came to an agreement on a 30+yr TE having his first-ever good year while not focusing on Schwartz. Perhaps 'focusing' is the wrong would to use, because we don't know how any negotiations are going down, but I'm just curious that we didn't get Schwartz signed but did with GB.

won't go into detail of pass pro...just not as great as some think but compared to others is probably top 10 for RT.

I am thinking they were banking on that kid from Seattle to bust out this year and make Schwartz expendable...and maybe one of the reasons the powers to be are no longer here.

bust out - meant that in a positive way not negative... lol laugh

We didn't offer much and then it got too late as he will probably look into the FA market.

Then again it could be his agent and the ITS A BUSINESS mode where he is convinced that he would be worth X amount and not less and we don't even come close to that.

X amount the agent probably would be correct in the FA market. Going to be tough to sign him.

Again why if we don't take QB at #2 why the BPA OT might be a good option for us. LT skill set - earn his bones on the RT side and be ready to take over if JT hangs them up after his contract is over.

Johnson is a RT. Here is the baseline for the contract.

The only thing we have in our favor is that he has also played LT, and they may look at him as their future LT when their LT retires.

Regardless, over $10 million/year definitely changes the game.

Also, they could be upset with Peters because he basically quit on the team.

I don't like the #s in the deal, especially factoring our RT is free to roam.

I think we'll end up paying Schwartz a contract that the fans will be skeptical of, but in all reality - with Cam Erving and the amount of clear work he needs to put in to improve, with Mack pretty much out the door and having next to no credible depth - not sure what I'll feel if we let him walk and introduce another hole in our oline. Probably a lot more sick than burning some of our cap on him.

Let's be real... Pasztor is our only credible depth person once Greco/Joel return to the lineup and that's just at guard.

Well ..... I could see our OL looking like this next year ..... crazy

Thomas
Pazstor
Erving
Greco
Bitonio

Then we invest yet another higher draft pick in an OL, instead of weapons and game changers on offense or defense.

I hope that I am wrong.

Could be, but Pasztor also has NFL experience at RT. I think he would be the first option out there, keeping Bitonio on the left side.

Erving, under the the theory he doesn't improve much, would be scary seeing him anchor the middle. A collapsing pocket will give edge rushers all they could ever possibly hope for and who knows how Joel would operate at nfl RT.

And if one person gets a hamstring, geeesh who would be the next man up?

More I talk and think, more I say hey... give Schwartz something nice and let's focus on the interior of the oline. JMO

on the positive side since Erving spends more time on his back than a $10 hooker when the fleet comes in... at least JM will be able to see the middle of the field.
