Not that it matters, but I thought that Sashi Brown was of Indian descent, not African. I could be mistaken, but I thought that I read that he was of Indian descent somewhere.

Oh the Irony - A White Guy from Tennessee is the guy providing the opportunity. I just ASSumed he was a southern guy in a blue collar industry that would hold certain values regarding race. You and others have assumed that for years while I told you that wasn't so. There is far more segregation up North than in the South

J/C So I got a pic w/ Hue Jackson down here in Mobile at one of the Senior Bowl events. He seemed extremely enthused. I told him to keep the enthusiasm because it was infectious. I also told him our Browns Backer club was dwindling and he said his goal would be to grow the Backers based on winning. Must say we are in new waters regardless if you believe in this strategy or not.
If I only knew then what I know today...

I am going to post this again. Let's see if any of you can respond to it rather than insulting me or telling me how to post: I don't trust him for a variety of reasons:
--His company ripped off other businesses. He paid $92 million in fines and more than $56 million its customers lost as part of the company’s diesel fuel rebate fraud.
Me...and he made it right once he found out. The man was never charged.....Correct
--He said that he learned from the Steelers that continuity was huge. Within a year, his coaches were all fired, his GM was fired, and his team president were fired.
Me...and who really disagrees, but on that one I'll call it a win for you
--He said before last season that the Browns would stay the course and not blow things up. At the conclusion of just one more season, he fired his GM, his HC, and much of the coaching staff.
And he did....he didn't blow it up until after the season when it showed the people he canned were incompetent.
--He talks about making mistakes and how things are different, but when you get past all the fancy titles and "cutting-edge" theories, the set-up is the same in that there are too many cooks in the kitchen and all report to him. I call that meddlesome.
Me....fact is you don't know how many cooks there really are. You think all are cooking and ignore that some may be assisting. I see no problem with group decisions.
I realize that he is the owner of the team. I really did not need 4 people to explain that to me. He can do as he pleases. I also realize that as a fan of the Browns for a long, long time.......I can do as I please and support the franchise that is owned and led by a snake charmer. ________________________ Let's hear the spin............

I can't but help to notice that every time Haslam rips the franchise up and starts over, he maintains his control over the football side of the operation.
I've said it before, Haslam views himself as another Jerry Jones type of owner/GM, someone capable of running the football side of the franchise...and none of the new hires he's made changes that control.
The HC answers to Haslam and even though Sashi Brown is said to be in control of the 53, the reality is, Haslam has final say.
It was not enough for Haslam wasting two seasons to see if Johnny football was going to wreck the NFL.. Haslam overruled the findings of the QB study that he commissioned, choosing to draft the QB he wanted instead of going with the results of the study.
Even though Jimmy hired some smart people to work for him, he continues to maintain his control over the football side of the franchise.
Will this new management structure work? Your guess is as good as mine. If Haslam is willing to give up his control over the draft and personnel, it would be a step in the right direction, imo.

In less than 4 years Haslam has fired 3 regimes. 2 of which he hired and were total disaster with in fighting. Chud vs Lombardi then Lombardi vs Banner and finally Banner vs Haslam after he failed to hire Chip which was the big selling point of replacing chud. Then we had Farmer vs Shanny then Alec vs Farmer and Pet and Farmer vs Pet.
Total disaster. Will see how this one works but this is the first time where Haslam has hired everyone. Banner was thrust upon him by the NFL in order to purchase the team.
Hue is a good coach. The rest is a bit insane but he is doing it his way. Whether anyone likes it or not, this time its the Haslam's way.

Plus, if we get the QB right, then the rest of the pieces will naturally fall into place more often than not.
If this group picks a QB in this draft, and he turns out to be a plus level starter, it will be amazing how smart they are and how well the process works, even if they miss on most of the rest of their draft picks.

QB is the key to this whole thing. And we're going to end up with one of Goff or Wentz. I am virtually 100% positive that's going to be how Jackson sees this. He's getting HIS QB to hitch his future to. And who gives a damn about trusting Haslam. Every billionaire in this world is ruthless. You're not getting there unless you are. That includes Bill Gates. These conversations are hilarious and seem to come from the whoa is me crowd. These same posters are the same ones who say "Why should we expect this to work since nothing else has worked since the return". It's comical. Negative nancy's for sure. Pessimistic people. There's ONE difference between everything else that's gone down over the years and now. Finally we have a highly respected and highly sought after Head Coach. But some worry about trusting Haslam. Hilarious. I'm excited. No I'm stoked for what's coming. The 1st 2 things I see Jackson doing is hitting the weakest 2 links on this team. QB at 2 and signing a WR with size. I'm betting $ that he'll get Marvin Jones to join him. And adding Gordon back into this equation along with Goff/Wentz will be an immediate major 3 steps forward.

Same old stuff. Guys don't have a sound argument, so they resort to hurling insults. I was called the same names before the season when I said the roster wasn't very good and that Farmer had made a lot of bad decisions. Don't try to understand or look deeper into things, just call them innovative names like Negative Nancy. It's hilarious to consider the owner? Seriously? Isn't the owner the guy who fires people? Hasn't this owner fired a ton of people in his short time here? Isn't this owner a crook? And we should ignore him? Hmmmmmmmmmm.......hilarious. I have also noticed this trend to say we hired a great coach. How do you guys know that? How many championships has he won? Does he even have a winning record as a HC? Keep making fun of me.......it really will make all your Cleveland Brown dreams come true.

I have also noticed this trend to say we hired a great coach. How do you guys know that? We don't; it is merely extrapolating from what he accomplished in Oakland. For the record, I, like others, are not "sold" on this coaching staff. While experienced, yes, their results to date are mixed. I am hopeful, but remain to be convinced...

http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/01/cleveland_browns_front_office.htmlCleveland Browns front office adds another Harvard grad: Crowquill CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns hired Andrew Berry as vice president of player personnel this week. Berry graduated from Harvard, as did chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta and executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown, thus making the Browns' front office decidedly Ivy League if not actually "the Harvard of the Midwest." The Browns hope the unique structure will translate into success on the field in the rugged AFC North. Needless to say, it's not the Ivy League. Crowquill, by Plain Dealer artist Ted Crow, appears three times a week on cleveland.com. I am wondering if the cartoons will be 3 times a week? Could be worth checking just for that.

we're tried hiring all of our people from one Agent, I don't see what it can hurt to try hiring them all from the same university - especially when it's one that is kinda well renowned for having sorta smart folks graduating from it.

Why some NFL execs are seeing red over the Browns' all-Crimson front office
MOBILE, Ohio -- Several top NFL personnel executives are seeing red over the Browns' all-Crimson front office.
A number of highly respected personnel men at the Senior Bowl criticized the Browns' new top brass, which features three Harvard-educated men with little or no experience scouting college players: Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown, Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta and Vice President of Player Personnel Andrew Berry, who's only 28.
One went so far as to say:"They should be ashamed of themselves.''
It's not the Ivy League credentials or the analytics bent that are bothering some longtime personnel men. It's the fact that the Browns have bypassed a chance to hire some of the best football minds in the NFL and instead have put non-traditional executives in charge of the roster.
Brown was the club's general counsel, primarily in charge of the salary cap and negotiating contracts. The 2016 Senior Bowl was his first, and he'll admittedly start watching more film than ever before.
DePodesta came from the Mets, and although he played receiver at Harvard and football is his first love, he's never formally scouted NFL talent.
Berry has spent the past seven seasons in scouting with the Colts, including the last four as pro scouting director. But he's studied mostly existing NFL players and not college prospects. He's assisted with the college process, but hasn't been responsible for making those picks.
Berry joined the Colts in 2009 as an entry-level scouting assistant and became a pro scout in 2011. Moving quickly up the ranks, he was named pro scouting director in 2012.
Sources at the Senior Bowl raved about Berry's intelligence, work ethic and character. He's very respected in the business and viewed as a rising young star.
Related: Sashi Brown says it would be 'shocking' for the Browns to trade up
But top execs -- football purists who have paid their dues for decades in some cases -- lament the fact that the Browns passed on opportunities to hire some of the best talent evaluators in the business such as Jaguars director of player personnel Chris Polian, Chiefs director of football operations Chris Ballard, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin, Falcons assistant general manager Scott Pioli, Cardinals vice president of player personnel Terry McDonough, Packers director of player personnel Eliot Wolf and others.
The Browns, who are using an innovative approach to try to shake the team out of its decades-long slumber, lost some of the top candidates right off the bat by giving control over the 53-man roster to Brown and not hiring a general manager.
A number of teams blocked the Browns from interviewing their top personnel executives because they weren't offering a promotion. A more prudent approach would have been to leave open the 53-man roster and the general manager title -- and interview the best in the business.
The Browns, however, are confident they attracted the top candidates among the eight or so they interviewed and landed a rising star.
"Andrew is really intelligent," Haslam told reporters Thursday night at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards. "He's very organized. He's very process-oriented. He'll be a great team player, he'll work well with everybody in the organization. I think he'll understand what Hue (Jackson) and the coaches need and I think he'll go out and find those players for us.''
He noted that most of the candidates were "outside the box, but I don't know that Andrew (falls into that category). He played college football. He's been a scout with one of the better organizations in pro football and run their pro personnel department since he got out of school. He's younger, but I don't know that he's non-traditional."
Despite the fact the moves have raised eyebrows around the league, Haslam felt Berry was the best fit for the Browns.
"I cannot tell you how excited we all were and Andrew had several different offers to do something with other teams,'' he said.
Within about three years, the Browns will know just how smart their new moves were.
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2016/01/why_some_nfl_execs_are_seeing.html------------------------------------------- You know what, the highly rated personnel executives MKC talked to in order to write this article may be right and that this attempt to right the ship in Cleveland my completely blow up in Haslem's face. And, to quote the article, the Browns should be ashamed of themselves. Only time will tell. With that said, there was a piece of that article that really struck a cord with me..... But top execs -- football purists who have paid their dues for decades in some cases -- lament the fact that the Browns passed on opportunities to hire some of the best talent evaluators in the business I took this as, assuming that MKC talked to people considered to be purists, that these sources are threatened by this approach of hiring non-traditional FO people, it's potential transformative effect on a front office, and thus, their job security. I understand that analytics have been a part of football for some time, and I understand this isn't some new wave of thinking, but the reliance on it from a top level executive position is somewhat new. And if deemed a success, this may alter the way team aligns their front office responsibility, and possibly, the emphasis put on the GM position or general talent evaluators. For the record, I personally put heavy reliance on the GM...moreso than the coach, so I'm not advocating this approach, per se. But there is a chance it alters the mindset of many moving forward.

Shocker. Yeah, when I read the article headline, I thought there'd be more to it. Doesn't sound like nothing but a bunch of outside people looking in because we are going a different route and chosen not to hire, as crfs said and as I'm sure it's true of those making them comments - their buddies. Maybe their right, but it's too early to rip the process. May not agree with it, but it's new. Can't rip on something that has nothing pretty much to even remotely try to compare it to.

Shocker. Yeah, I mean, that's kinda my point. The NFL is a very incestuous business, and if this approach justifies rethinking that structure, it could be damaging to those other friends.

Wolf is next in line for the Packers top job when Ted Thompson steps down... which likely will be before Sashi Brown steps down, so why take a lateral move with a longer wait for succession? Scott Pioli is pretty much hated in Kansas City for his drafting history. I don't see past Tobin who might have taken the job from this list. This claim needs more information.

What they don't get is the All Star team approach just isn't working for us. It has all been known its not the how good they are its the How good do they work together with HC those are the two heads. We are joining strangers at the hip and they say SURE WE CAN DO IT...eventually one Alpha want his way the other his and we have a mess.
We wanted a personnel guru not a RUN A TEAM guru. The job descriptions are well defined even if we do not see it clearly here. It appears each hire knows their responsibilities...and don't interfere with the others. A lot of who's who names mentioned SONS of great evaluators. Maybe we put a chink into the fraternity. If successful then what?
Good having others upset at us...sort of makes me happy. If it was destined to fail...what would they care. The only way it could be upsetting to them is if we succeed!

If I had to guess, it appears a few execs are a little concerned. If Haslam's plan works, traditional front office structure gets tossed to the curb. The good ol'boy club gets put out of commission. Luckily for them, it is Haslam leading the charge. I also find very interesting Haslam went back to what Banner established. Even coaching staff is similar, scheme related, to when Chud was hired.

It is true that once Sashi was given the control over the 53 man roster, that it severely limited who we could interview for the GM position. It was posted on this board by a few posters including myself.
But alas, it is the honeymoon season....
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It is true that once Sashi was given the control over the 53 man roster, that it severely limited who we could interview for the GM position. It was posted on this board by a few posters including myself.
But alas, it is the honeymoon season.... It's been emphasized heavily by Brown and Haslam position is not a GM. I think the old school boys really want Haslam to fail. Did Haslam make the front office structure announcement to soon? I do think this will get very interesting. You watch and see how much more negative talk is directed at the Browns. I foresee some serious ugliness coming our way.

Well at least the brain trust is an actual brain trust. I'm cautiously excited to see where all this goes. I'm staying open minded on the HC hire but watching Hue talk so far I'm unimpressed; however he wasn't hired to talk so we shall see.

But alas, it is the honeymoon season.... I had read that also. I can't remember the name of the guy, but there was someone we wanted to interview, we needed to ask permission and it wasn't granted supposedly because he wouldn't have control over the final roster. Is it true? Hell if I know

Browns may have made it harder to hire a G.M. Apart from the reality that giving lawyer-turned-football-executive Sashi Brown final say over the roster will make the Cleveland G.M. job less attractive to G.M. candidates who are at the top of the G.M. industry, the decision to elevate Brown to the top non-coaching football position within the Browns will make it harder to hire someone currently under contract with another team. Because Sashi Brown has control over the 53-man roster, the Cleveland G.M. position doesn’t qualify for the portion of the tampering policy that allows a team to hire as G.M. someone currently working for another team, without permission from that team. Which means that if the Browns target an up-and-coming scout or director of college scouting or director of pro personnel or any other person under contract with another team, the other team can refuse to let the person be interviewed and hired. It means that the Browns will either have to hire someone that another team doesn’t want to keep, or they’ll have to hire someone who currently isn’t employed. Whether the Browns thought that specific wrinkle through remains to be seen. If they didn’t, it definitely could put a crimp in their plans for interviewing G.M. candidates. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/01/04/browns-may-have-made-it-harder-to-hire-a-g-m/
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

From what I can tell, the Colts wanted to keep him so, I guess it didn't end up being a big wup!
Oh, sorry, I was speaking of Berry.

People are mad because their friends aren't getting hired?
Shocker. LOL..........how could anyone dare question the moves that Haslam has made? He track record of greatness should shut everyone up. It's just sour grapes and no one who disses the Browns has a leg to stand on! Haslam is Lucy and you guys are the Charlie Brown of fans.
