I don't have a problem with wealthy people getting wealthy. I've said before it would've been nice to become a 1 per center.

What I have a problem is is people getting wealthy by screwing the American people over.

I understand there are winners and losers.

But it will never sit right with me that corporations are allowed to ship jobs overseas just so they can give themselves bigger bonuses.

Businesses should be allowed to do what they want.... As long as the majority of their jobs stay in America.

It's bothering that people know that corporations do this, but instead of being angry, you guys go "government should stay out of business"

Well they did, and look what happened.

It seems like a lot of republicans are basing their economic policies off the honor system, where they HOPE rich people do the right thing.

And no, trickle down economics doesn't work.

I hear you ok...who was it GE?? I dont remember at the moment made billions and paid no tax or very little...that crap I dont agree with but that guy I responded to said nothing about corporations...unless I misread which is possible.

I saw rich people arent paying in taxes what people think they are is what I had issue with.

Ive been on both sides of this...making nothing wondering how I was going to eat...to I eat very well now...and after seeing what the CPA told me and the wife what our tax bill was this year...I get a tad un-jointed when people think the wealthy arent doing there part.

it was just a side note reply.

i was just saying that rich people and corporations aren't the same, even though the rich run it, there are only so many corporations, ya know?

i guy could be making six figures and still have a ton of bosses over him. so my response was geared toward the corporations.

people like to say "the taxes are too high" for corporations. but the reality is that they rarely pay what they are suppose to pay.

for those companies trying to move to Ireland, i say good luck, as they were part of the PIGS that had to get bailed out in europe. if they feel that it's smart to move their business HQ to an unstable economic country, than i don't know what to really say about that other than "see you soon".

also, i don't see why corporations can't find ways to make a profit within the boundaries of this country.

they can still trade and export/import with other nations however much they like, but them wanting to ship jobs overseas and ultimately their business tells me that they are either trying to market a very crappy product, or they aren't very good to begin with.

it's probably a combination of both, but it bothers me that these businesses have become to big to fail. same with banks.

i mean we gave them bailout money from us tax payers, and GM turned around and bought private jets with them.

but as a citizen, people who are conservatives are saying i'm suppose to be ok with that?

so it's ok for businesses to ask and receive money from the government, but it's not ok for the government to impose restrictions on said businesses?

basically they want their cake and eat it, too.

"i can take whatever from the government, but they better not ask anything from me"

what an awesome concept.

No one on the left is very specific when they say 'rich' and I don't buy that the majority of your fellow lefties are thinking only of corporations when the word 'rich' is used.

On top of that, if you raise the corporate tax, that will dig into the executives paycheck, so…

I don't know about 'trickle down economics', but all I know is when my client base has spare money, I have necessary money.

So you are content to live on scraps ? Good work if you can get it . Just don't rock the boat too much huh ? Joke . By rich I mean 100 million or more ( 3000 plus in this country ) who have loopholes available only to them . Who control an inordinate share of the wealth in this country . You are the kind of guy I'm talking about when I rail on the ignorant types who automatically jump on the Right vs Left wagon without even considering the thought that there could be a better way . As long as the organ grinder is feeding you then you don't have to think about trees do you ?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else on the left, I can only speak for myself as one man, and I can only speak off my own observations and experiences, nobody else's.

I'm not suggesting raising the corporate tax, I'm suggesting they pay the original rate that was set.

Maybe they should do away with refunds and tax loopholes and such. I dunno.

But I do know that lowering the taxes hasn't really worked that well. All people ever do is pay themselves more and keep the extra cash in the bank. Same thing with corporations. They don't spend more with tax cuts, they just have more net worth and up executive bonuses a bit.

The people at the bottom don't benefit from that. That's all I'm saying.

We don't benefit when corporations make more money from tax cuts. But we suffer when the CEO decides that they need more profits, so they add American jobs and hire foreigners.

I mean come on bro, we even outsourced X rays to people in India. Like, seriously?

I post at a dinner stop on the way to a client site, get back on 3 hours later and there are threats and addresses being posted. That, in a nutshell, is what is wrong with America now - people cannot have a debate without it getting personal.

The problem I have is that no one is defining what "rich" is - it varies by the responder. I think some of the left think "rich" is if you have a job, whereas others it may be the folks making over 100M. Let me say this - a "1 percenter" income on the low end is 388k. While that is a lot of money, it is by no means mega-wealthy. A married couple with 2 good jobs can easily surpas that amount - I can get close on a good year and am pretty far off on a bad year; the fun of being self employed. We really need to be talking about the .1% - they are the ones that control all of the wealth and feed the remaining 99.9% the scraps. But it just sounds better saying "the 1%" and portraying them as evil.

Well, as I've said before, as a singular lefty, I was talking more of corporations

But come on Columbus, the wealthy own the corporations. While they don't go hand and hand, there is a valid connection, as some of the shady ones uses their corporations for tax credits on personal stuff.

That above comment, let me make it clear that I don't care. There are perks to being a boss. I get that.

I'm simply saying don't get wealthy off of screwing over American jobs and sending them overseas. There are plenty means to get more profits without going overseas. Other corporations do it, so why can't the ones that send them over?

As far as defining wealthy. Look man, the most I ever made was about 55k in the military. Probabaly close to 70k down range, but that's because of all the special pay and tax free paycheck see get while deployed.

But I'm not in anymore.

So far me, wealthy is somebody making 300k plus.

I don't care what state you live in, if you're financially responsible, that's a ton of money.

But that's just my opinion bro. I started from the bottom now I'm....not quite at the bottom anymore. So anybody living in the suburbs with a nice ride is wealthy in my eyes.

I don't like corporations sending jobs overseas either. It sucks, big time - I'm in IT and the outsourcing rate is incredible and scary. We need to find ways to have incentives for them to stay - like it or not, the economy is global now and any public company is going to cut costs where they can to increase shareholder value. Do I like that? No, not at all - I've said my opinions of public companies many times in other threads. Personally, if my company were to ever make it big I would remain private - take a look at SAS Institute as far as a company that gets it IMO. They are the largest publicly held software company in the world and have been in the top 5 of the best places to work for years. However, I was never talking about corporations, but I likely agree with a lot of your views on them.

That said, back to what I thought we were discussing - personal income, do you think it would be fair for someone making 300k to pay 50% of that in taxes? Remember, that is just federal - in Ohio, tack on another 5 or so percent, another 1.5-2% for city/local. Also add about 7.5% up to 118k, or 15% if self employed. I won't disagree almost 400k is a great living, but to have to pay 50% in federal taxes would be ludicrous.

Well, I am not wealthy by anyone's damn standards and all I've heard from you people is how you want to take more and more and give and give and y'know what? It goes right by me.

I made around $47k in '13 and a little over $53k in '14 and my damn tax burden doubled...under this administration. Y'know-the hope and change guy?

That's the damn problem with you people, you say 'oh, it won't effect anyone below such and such amount' and then they get in office and all of a sudden it's way the hell down in my tax bracket too!

I didn't start this mess, I made a simple comment and all of a sudden I'm getting insulted.

I'm not gonna carry this any further but I'll be damned if I apol Vise for anything either.

That's the only thing wrong with America ? Lol ! I love a good debate but do poorly with being threatened so I foolishly fed into the drama . Product of hillbilly upbringing perhaps . Getting back to the topic I think that even the most ardent big business supporter has to admit the monumental problem that we have on our hands with the unchecked greed that has become business as usual . I don't know that we are that far apart in our thinking as it concerns the 1% btw.

No and I would never advocate that.

I for one wouldn't bother trying to make it big if know that half my paycheck is going to the man.

I think what the wealthy pay is fine for the most part. My beef is what corporations pay, or what they don't pay.

I know with the tax rates and such you're probabaly worried with regards to Bernie potentially being president. I agree and I've said that before, holding banks and corporations accountable is one thing. But making the wealthy, as in the Individuals, pay for everything is nonsense. It simply will not fly.

I coulda gone back and forth with you politely until we hammered out our specifics and found ourselves right next to each other at the bar. I don't understand why GE made so much and didn't pay anything-again, under the hope and change guy either.

It's all good king.

Anyways, I wonder how people are gonna vote tomorrow night. The latest poll that just came out says trump has 28%, Cruz with 23.

5 percent swing is very possible.

On the right we have a religious nut job and a self aggrandizing spoof of a human and on the left we have a deplorable say anything to keep herself on the public teat harpie and a tired old hippie . I think a Sanders/Trump debate would be epic. Scum rises to the top normally, doesn't it?

And no I don't think the inability to compromise is the only problem with America today, but in the political arena it is a huge issue that keeps real solutions from occurring.

The biggest drawback to me regarding Cruz is his Barney Badass stance on war... If he had a more thoughtful and reasoned response to those issues, I could get behind him a lot more.
