Panthers get up by two scores after the 1st and there's no looking back. Forcing Manning into pass first and often game while Panthers D-line tees off on him. Hoping the commercials are interesting because I don't believe this game will be.

If those 2 scores are Field Goals, and Cam gets knocked out of the game after that, THEN how do you see the game turning out?

That would be down by one score and I would sooner believe that Manning gets knocked out of the game.

The closer it is the longer into the game...advantage Denver.

Panthers have been running away with big leads early. Then coasting. If it stays close by the half...they will be in virgin territory.

We'll see if they have any panic?

Defense is keys here.

I'm still mindset Denver's defense will split hairs dealing with Cam and Manning won't be able to really get his offense going with the speed in which Carolina defense plays. Luke I think will be all over the field, he's an incredible linebacker.

Still can't believe Manning will likely leave the game on the premises of a superbowl loss.

I still say this:

I think this game comes down to the same thing that has decided the playoff games after the Wildcard games, and that is: who wins the battles between the o-lines and front the front sevens for each team.

Cam has been getting all day to throw. Clean pockets. But, he will fail miserably if Denver can pressure him the way they pressured Brady. No way will Cam be able to make good throws and decisions w/that much pressure in his face. However, if Carolina's line can protect him, Cam will continue to make plays.

On the other side of the ball, I think Denver's OL is suspect and Carolina can rush the passer. If Manning is pressured, he will turn the ball over multiple times. I think Denver is going to really have to game-plan to minimize the number of times Manning drops back and the WRs run their normal route trees.

While Denver has a slightly higher rated D, Carolina has a very good D as well. So while Denver has an edge on D, that's all it is, an edge.

I don't even think they have an edge.. yea, they give up about 40 less yards per game.. that has allowed them to give up half of a point less per game, a negligible difference... but Carolina has forced 12 more turnovers than Denver in the regular season... Carolina has forced 9 turnovers in the playoffs to Denver's 4 (Yea, most of those were Carson Palmer.. ) .... those turnovers are game changers far more than a few extra first downs.

I look at these 2 teams, and I see some huge similarities, and some great differences.

Obviously the defenses are both very good. I think that the difference in the offenses favors the Panthers. (staggering insight there)

In the end, while the creativity and ability of the Denver defense has been incredible this year, I still favor the Carolina offense against the Denver defense more than I favor the Denver offense against the Carolina defense. No one can doubt the knowledge that Peyton brings to the game, but his arm is not close to what it once was. I like the Carolina run game, and think that they will do enough in that regard to keep some of the pressure off of Newton. Also, while the Denver defense has been amazing at preparing for each opponent, I think that Cam Newton is a difference maker, and I think that Carolina manages 24-27 points in this game, and that is enough to win the game.

My pick is:
Carolina 27
Denver 16

There is one thing about Carolina's defense, Pit.........they are prone to giving up big plays.

Denver's offense is pretty lame, though. I still say it comes down to who can protect/pressure the qb.

Ware and Miller are very disruptive on the outside and that guy GM knows......Wolfe????........is a force in the middle. So is the other guy, but I forget his name...LOL

If Carolina can neutralize those guys somewhat, they should win the game because Denver's O won't be able to keep pace. They are just going to have to hope to hit a couple of big plays.

I think Denver's only shot is to keep it close, low scoring..

I feel a team like Carolina, very young, could lose a game like that, by trying to do "too much" at a certain time.

Everyone is saying Carolina in a blowout. If its close in the 4th, does the doubt start to creep in? Does the smile fade and the twelve wrapped around Cam's head if he's not scoring 30 points?

I wasnt nessecarily talking about age.

They were not good two-three years ago, average last year, and are now suddenly 15-1 and in the SuperBowl.. Thats a quick rise.

The difference here is that Denver's D has to worry about containing Cam before they get in his face.

Denver has two elite edge rushers. They also have two inside guys that get penetration. I would imagine the plan would be to get early outside pressure, force Cam to step-up, and then have their interior rush hit him.

But again.........Carolina's OL has given Cam a very clean pocket all year. They negated Arizona's pass rush. They're very good. An elite pass rush vs an outstanding OL. Should be a great battle.

If Denver wins that battle, they have a great chance of winning the game.

If Carolina wins that battle, they will blow Denver out.

If Denver's offense gets a few scores behind, call it game over. If Denver cannot incorporate their run game, their offense isn't built to come from behind and Carolina would just tee off on Peyton.

I'm going to go and do just that.

Denver Wins. Carolina DB can be exploited and who exploits better than Manning. Everyone acts as if he is in a freaking wheel chair and can throw the ball just 10 yards.

Denver Defense outside and in can close in on Cam and maybe put some hits on him that he hasn't experienced before.

A big key will be whose Running game will be effective.

I'm going with Denver's Defense taking over the game.

And the wildcard in all of that is Cam Newton.. pass rush is great but if you get out of your lanes, if you are spinning inside leaving the outside open or get too far up the field, if you aren't extremely disciplined, you can get all the pressure you want and Cam will still kill you.

He will run it, he can throw it 50 yards falling backwards, he will move outside and hurt you... and so far, he has not shown that he turns it over much..

Do you really believe that I overlooked Newton's athleticism and skill set? Seriously?

Previously, another poster acted like I never considered Brady's quick release.

When I make comments about protection and pressure, believe me, I have considered the opposing quarterback's strengths.

There used to be a time on this board where people listened and respected the opinions of those who had more knowledge of certain things than other posters. Now, it's turned into a **** swinging contest and we have so many posters who are experts at everything.

Personally, I try not and talk too much when I lack knowledge in an area. I try and actually listen to people who have a great deal of knowledge in one area. For example, I loved learning in a music thread from Clem, ddub, lamp, and Portland. I like reading the takes from certain guys on financial matters. Other guys seem to know more about politics. Others really, really have a good handle on the draft. Excel makes great points in the basketball threads.

Not sure why so many feel the need to pretend they know more about certain topics than the guys who actually do.

If that is the case.........I apologize.

I just have been thinking about the "listening" thing for the past couple of weeks.

For example, I enjoy a lot of your takes on social issues in the Everything Else forum. I don't comment much because I don't consider myself as informed as some of you guys.

Now.........I am NOT saying that guys shouldn't discuss things. That is not how I mean it. It just seems that so many people are so eager to challenge opinions and rarely listen to the guys who do know quite a bit about a certain topic. Surely, you notice that in the EE forum.........right?

Anyway.......I am sure some of the guys will be along soon to rip me and say I don't know football and so forth, but I just had to get that off my chest.

And DC............I apologize if I misinterpreted your post.

Vers, my point was simple... you made an elaborate post about Denver's pass rush, which I agree with... Their pass rush is the biggest factor in them beating the Steelers and the Patriots...

My point, was to add to it with my own opinion.. that I think Cam Newton is going to be the difference.. he's as big (or bigger) than Ben he's been throwing the ball darn near as well as Brady... and he is significantly faster than either of them.

Denver is still going to be able to rush, but this isn't Brady where you rush to a spot and just know he's going to be there.. if they get out of their lanes and Cam runs for 20 yards a couple times, it will slow down the pass rush, it will make them commit LBs to spy, which will allow guys to get open a little easier...

Pittsburgh and New England both have very dominant offenses this year.... but neither of them have an athlete like Cam Newton, and I think that is going to be the difference in why the other two teams struggled to put up 20 but why Carolina is going to put up 30+..

I understand every point you are making Vers, but I disagree. I watched a lot of cut ups from the Pats verses Broncos game. The one thing I noticed which stuck out to me most, was that almost every time they got good pressure on Brady, there was a huge running lane for the QB.

To get so much pressure, they weren't maintaining their lanes.

I'm not saying that Cam will burn them up by running. However, if they employ their usual attack of the QB, it will open up enough running lanes for Cam to gain drive sustaining runs for 1st downs.

I just don't believe there is a more complete QB in the league than Cam and I don't believe that the Broncos hold as much of an advantage on the D side of the ball as some seem to indicate.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I wonder how effective Davis SR will be with that arm. Him and Luke are easily the two best LB in this game, probabaly the league.

Also, I wonder if Thomas will show up for manning on Sunday. It seems like he's a no show when it comes to the playoffs. Sanders is gonna get a ton of work.

I think Derek Wolfe is going to have a big impact. Yes I may be biased BUT He is bigger than Cam both 6"5 but Derek's 50 pounds heavier and he is almost as fast as Cam where it counts around the line Newtons 10 and 20 yard dash times coming out of college were 1.6 and 2.67. While Derek's were 1.69 and 2.85 Cam ran a 4.6 40 while Derek was at 5.01 but he is now running in the 4.8 range on a consistent basis. While Carolina is going to paying more attention to Ware, Miller, and Jackson leaving Wolfe to go one on one more often with a offensive lineman.

I didn't see the entire seahawks/panthers playoff game. How did Seattle hold Carolina scoreless in the 2nd half? Did Seattle figure out how to stop them or did Carolina get conservative because they had a big lead?

On another note. Went skiing today. Lots of people in Broncos jerseys, waiving broncos flags, cheering and excited. It was depressing to know that as a Browns fan we'll never get to feel the same excitement.

""During the offseason I took a medication which is on the banned substance list," he said in the statement. "The medication is not a substance which would enhance my on-field performance in any way and I genuinely was unaware that it was prohibited, but players are responsible for what is in their bodies."

How did he accomplish it... Hard work. His time is better now and his tests are clean.

Do you have any clue how stupid the NFL's banned list is? here is a sample list of banned substances

https://nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.net/m...0Substances.pdf

Here is just one substance on the list Pseudoephedrine

Pseudoephedrine is found in all of these products

Mucinex
Aleve sinus & cold
Sudafed Nasel Decongestant
Tylenol sinus
tylenol cold
Zyrtec
Claritin D
Drixoral
Advil Cold & Sinus
Advil Allergy Sinus
Children’s Advil Cold Suspension
Alavert
Robitussin cold & cough
Primatene

Gee how many drug addicts on this board ever popped a advil, aleve, or a zyrtec around here when they had a cold?

BTW all of those are legal if your own clubs medical personal prescribe them to you, but NOT legal if your OWN DR prescribe's them. notallthere Oh and God forbid you happpen to take a dose of Childrens Advil Cold Suspension that could get you banned but go ahead and give it to your Child all day long thats just fine

Actual Vers, I respect the hell out of your football opinions. Prime example: when you posted you don't think the QB class this year is #2 worthy, I was sold, moreso after reading some of the scouting reports on those guys.

Do I wanna draft a QB who has accuracy issues in college, or has questionable arm strength?
Nope.

I'm going to go Denver too. Their D was relentless going after Brady, whom I consider the best QB in the game. Plus, I heard Kubiak saying that Peyton is throwing well, like he was early in the season. The two week layoff has apparently done him some good, health-wise. Keep an eye on Miller and Ware getting after Newton. If they harass him like they did Brady, then Denver has a great shot to win. Admiration and respect for Peyton Manning trumps my Bronco-hate today.

A side thought: I'm always amused at fans who still drink the Haterade regarding Denver. Dawgs- those playoff games were so long ago, the players have KIDS who are NFL- aged.

Yeah- the team in orange & blue handed us some heartbreak... but it was almost 30 years ago. 'Tain't healthy to hold grudges for that many years.

And you know what? I don't even get that 'flash of anger' when the TV shows shots of Elway up in the owner's suite. It's been long enough ago that all I have now is mad respect for the guy. I've gone from being a Browns fan only... to being a student of the game. I think that's made the difference for me.

Guess I 'tain't healty then. I cannot stand them, up there with the Steelers and Ravens. I just can so vividly recall having my heart stomped on in the mid 80's by them I cannot find a way to cheer for them to win a SB. The memories are still as vivid as yesterday for me 30 some years later.

I like Peynton and won't be upset if they win, but I cannot root for them even though they are the underdogs. I usually go with the 'dogs unless it is any AFC central team or Denver.
