I agree. I don't see him "sticking it to the man" like that. More like he would understand the value of him not doing that so they could keep more of their team together.

If manning plans to play some more and denver doesn't want him Manning will force them to cut him. It would cost him too much money to retire instead of being cut.

Agree.

They drafted Osweiler to develop him. That is what they have done. Now he is ready.

Peyton will not come back so what other option does Denver have?

This is a story with no legs.

j/c...

I also just realized. If I'm his Agent I'm leaking about Browns could be going after Osweiller. Raises his worth a bit.

jmho I don't mind us doing both...FA n Prospect from the draft. Just like Redskins took two QBs high in the draft of 2012.

Oh wow. Sad as to say, I would not want Peyton to possibly play his final year here as Brown. A. because we perish QBs like anything imaginable and B. Manning's arm is about toasted.

Retire Peyton, go out the right way!

If Peyton plays next year, my guess is the Texans or Rams.

QB Coach? This can't be a serious comment. Peyton Maning is not going to take any coaching position, let alone a QB Coach position.

He'll either take some time off for a year (unlikely), go in to a media role, take an executive role or go Broadway Joe himself with the Rams.

Problem is they are going to tag Miller and are in cap trouble. If we REALLY want Osweiler then we probably have the cash to outbid them. Then it comes down to does he want to leave for more money? And does someone else outbid US?

Do we end up with Osweiler? Unlikely but NOT impossible with Denvers cap situation.

If I was a QB I would probably stay with the defending super bowl champ best defense in the league team even if it meant giving up a couple million.

What makes sense to me is that the Broncos will do what they have to do to keep Osweiler. They drafted Osweiler to develop behind Manning. If Manning is retiring, why waste 4 years of investment?

The difference would be a lot greater than a couple million. We have 35 million in cap space. The Broncos are over the cap. They will have to cut players to sign him. If we offer him a BIG contract, will they be willing to cut the players it would take to match that offer or come close to it?

Agreed. Why would Osweiler leave a super bowl champion to go play for a team that is constantly rebuilding.

He could come to Cleveland and go 8-8 and have a statue built in his honor..

Unless he wins a Super Bowl NEXT SEASON in Denver people (fans/media) will say he's just "not good enough"

I don't know if they are or not but they sure don't have much room even if they do cut peyton. Browns would be smart to offer a crazy contract for the broncos to have to match and then when they do be ready to pounce on some of the other elite players they have to let go to keep him.

I believe they pick up another 19 million in cap space if Payton retires.

I think Denver franchise tag Osweiler or sign him to an expensive multi-year contract in order to keep him. Either way Brock has a leg up on this deal. In the end, I think it is a wash for next year.

If the 2016 salary cap is $150 million, the quarterback tag would cost about $19.6 million. The Broncos could absorb that easily enough by cutting Manning and his $19 million salary for next season. But another tag for Osweiler in 2017 would cost $23.52 million — 120% of Osweiler’s previous salary — for a two-year average of $21.56 million, higher than all but three current quarterback deals.

One alternative is the transition tag, which would cost about $17 million. It’s unlikely another team would touch that with such an inexperienced player, though it's more enticing than the more expensive franchise tag, which would also cost an outside suitor two first-round picks to sign a player.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl...nning/76750622/

keeping Brock will cost as much as paying Peyton Manning...is he worth $20,000,000? I think not...but Denver is in a pickle on this one

It would probably be better to tag him and see how he does over the next year, than to work out a bad long term deal with him.

IMO, Osweiler is just the flavor of the week back-up with little film to study. He might be good, but odds are he is just like Malletand many others who show something, and turn out to be mediocre at best when given the job.

He has 6-7 games of film this year. How much film does a team need?

Won a SB with Manning, so ought to know what you have by now. I say he gets kept, PM gets gone. Hope he retires. This can't be a huge mystery to them. If he isn't good enough to keep, what do they want?

Pull the trigger; happy up his agent.

Well, with Manning all but certain to retire, if the Broncos let him go, you have to ask, what is it that they know that we don't see?

If they blow a wad of cash on him, that's equally telling. Elway should know what he's got in Osweiler.

Honestly I don't know which way this will go. But if I had a guess, I'd say they make him a helluva an offer to stay put and my guess is that he will do just that.

The real question is what does anyone see in him that would make them feel like he is the answer at the QB position.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

do you think hue could fix a bit of his mechanics, though?

like his issue with his heigh and his throwing motion having the ball constantly going toward the ground?

i dunno if anybody else noticed that about Osweiler.

Swish, I think his mechanics are pretty darn good. He was drafted by Denver as a project. It was almost a given that he would need time to develop. Kinda like Wentz and Lynch. He's paid his dues and I think he is a much safer guy than any of the qbs in the draft.

He was a bit inconsistent last year. Good first half, poor second half. But, it was his first time as a starter and Denver was playing in pressure-packed games as they chased the number one seed.

I think Denver will do all they can to keep him, but the Browns might be able to pay him more money. I would be okay w/that and and the Browns would then be able to use the second overall pick to draft an impact player or move that pick and draft impact players.

Peyten will probably wait to be cut. If he retires he has to give millions of dollars back to Denver. If they cut him he keeps all of his signing bonus. Plus he can still play where he wants to IF he wants to. If he retires then He loses money AND Broncos retain all rights to him.

To me it's a no Brainer that Peyton will wait to be cut.

Malik Jackson is the Denver guy I would target. He might actually hit the market (unlike Miller and Osweiler).

Also, if the Broncos don't attempt to re-sign Osweiler that says a lot about his future.
