Has anyone heard if we used the tag on Schwartz or not?
What about on Gipson?

I thought we might franchise Tank Carder. Has anyone heard if we used either tag?

We didn't use any tags.

Just a huge mistake on my part to post an interview with Sashi Brown that was just made availavle on ClevelandBrowns.com 30 minutes before I posted it here.

I assume no one clicked on the link because there were no comments beyond the lateness of the franchise tag "news". In the 15 minute interview, done just minutes before the deadline, they discuss a dozen or more topics beyond the non-franchise tag issue, which I knew about before I posted it, and I found all of it interesting.

But hey, if all you got out of it was a good laugh then it turns out it was good for something.

I clicked the link and found it very interesting.

It's the silly season, so it's tough to read too much into anything.

But I still wonder exactly what DePodesta's role here is. I almost get the feeling that Haslam wanted to hire a guy that he saw as intelligent, but the guy doesn't have a clear cut job. He's coming up with strategies for doing things? I mean, what is that? I'm guessing he's trying to figure out ways that analytics could be useful to the team, and then he presents them to Brown/Jackson (to which they will decide whether to use them or to throw it in the trash). But he doesn't seem to have any power at all. At least that's the impression that I've gotten.

I like Brown, he seems like a young confident guy. He also seems like he still is getting used to being in the spotlight, being interviewed, etc.

What I found interesting was that he said that the board was set pretty much by the scouts evaluations. And he said what really would change it here on out would be character and medical concerns. I would think that the biggest changes would come from the Head Coach's Opinions/Aaron Berry's Opinions on the players on the board.

No two people are going to get the same evaluations from players. We see this clearly on the message board daily.

I would think that Berry would use the evaluations as a tool, but also use other resources to help make the decision as to what our board would be (like his own eyes). I assume that he is running the personel department, not just because he has decent leadership skills (and an ability to choose the right scouts) but also because of his ability at evaluating players as well.

Just was interesting to listen to. We shall see. Kind of wish we used the franchise tag on Schwartz or Gipson. I think this year's FA will show a big increase in the money guys are making. Salaries are going to increase, big time, and this would make the franchise tag much more valuable than it normally would be. Afterall, you can always franchise a guy and then continue to negotiate a long-term contract extension. There's still an incentive for the player to sign on, as a freak injury is always a possibility
