Nicely chosen words, Alex, but somehow they ring hollow. Your leaving tells us all we really need to know... No worries, we have Cameron Ervin. A bottom-rung OL posing as a below-average OL. Putting him at his natural position will magically make him physically stronger and improve his mechanics. When we drafted him the homers all talked about his versatility and how he can, and has, played all over the line. But when the suckage was evident last year it was all because he was not at center. So much for versatility.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/10/the-new-alex-mack-deal-details/The new Alex Mack deal details Posted by Mike Florio on March 10, 2016, 10:50 AM EST Baltimore Ravens v Cleveland Browns Getty Images Two years ago, center Alex Mack signed an offer sheet with the Jaguars that: (1) paid him $18 million over two years; and (2) allowed him to scrap the remaining three years and $24 million of the contract. Now that he has scrapped the three years and $24 million, he has signed a deal that will pay him a lot more. Per a source with knowledge of the deal, Mack will receive $11.5 million to sign, and fully-guaranteed base salaries of $1.75 million in 2016 and $6.75 million in 2017. While none of the 2018 salary is guaranteed, there’s an unusual term in the deal that guarantees the 2019 base salary of $8.5 million for injury only at signing. The 2019 base salary becomes fully guaranteed if Mack is on the roster as of May 15, 2017. The device forces the Falcons to essentially commit to Mack for at least three more years after the first season of the deal. In all, the contract has full guarantees of $20 million at signing, with another $8.5 million that becomes fully guaranteed next year. The full deal averages $9 million per year, with cap numbers of $4.05 million in 2016; $9.05 million in 2017; $10.8 million in 2018; $10.8 million in 2019; and $10.3 million in 2020. That is a very sweet deal for Mack

As for Mack taking less money to play for the Falcons, the Browns never actually made him a concrete offer after he voided the final three years of his contract (at $8 million a year) last week. Mack's representatives agreed to keep the Browns in the loop, but it was generally assumed that Mack, 30, would make more than the Browns wanted to pay. As for the Mack team, they found the Browns to be extremely professional and easy to work with and they look forward to doing business again in the future. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2016/03/what_happened_with_mitchell_sc.html"Bozo."

We need both. Sign Smith and draft best center still available at 32. We don't need a center at 32. We need to sign Wiz and wait and see if Cam lives up. We did kind of move him all over. Center is his spot. He has the quickness for the position. Now, do we need to draft a center? I agree, we do. To me that is a nuts and bolts position. You don't have to have the best, you just need good. I'd say we can start looking come round 4 and draft a guy who can play. Oh yeah, I forgot about the awesome Cam. He dominated last year. If by dominate you mean got knocked on his fat ass a lot. I was unimpressed. He was nowhere NEAR being in shape. If we are counting on him we ARE in serious trouble. If we can find a true mauler center in the 4th that's great. But I'd REALLY like to run the ball on occasion so some tub of lard that can't block worth spit isn't going to cut it. I want a PLAYER not just a body, and that still leaves a big ass hole at RT.....

Are you friends w/Mack? How do you know this? Even if he didn't want to stay............is that more of an indictment on Mack or the Browns?
What cracks me up is the excuses and justifications for this epic failure.

How do we know all about a rookie center that didn't play his position during his rookie year with a bunch of losers coaching him up is beyond me. But whatever.

What cracks me up is the excuses and justifications for this epic failure. Yup I know him well. He wanted out so bad he was hell just to be around. . It's an indictment on the Brown's for not getting real NFL playmakers to match the talent of the oline. What excuses are you talking about? I'm not making excuses. We had a great opportunity last year to really draft three top oline for depth and future starters. Farmer screwed it up all up...that's my only excuse for what happened here.

The coaches put him a position to fail. I'd like to see what he can do ar center before calling him a bust. But we breed bust's so maybe he is . Still it's beyond me how we know this to be true at this point though.

The crap about the coaches is just that. It's not the coaches fault that his lower body is weak and he refuses to play w/leverage.
I wouldn't call him a bust. I would just say that he played poorly last year and wasn't worthy of his lofty draft status.

Still it's beyond me how we know this to be true at this point though. what I saw from Cam last year was very little core strength, no leverage. He was not in shape, got bullied really badly. My biggest question about him at center is he smart enough to play center at the NFL level?

Can anyone verify this for me? I seem to recall that the contract Mack negotiated with Jax, which the Browns then had to accept or loss him, contained a poison pill. I think it included a clause the if Mack leaves as a FA the team does NOT get a compensation draft pick. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember. I can't find anything on that with a quick google search.

There are 2 things you could be thinking about.
1 - the opt out after 2 seasons 2 - the Mack cannot get franchised clause
The contracts cannot include anything about the comp picks because:
1 - the contract is between the player and the team hweereas comp picks are between the team and the league
2 - If that were added, once the player became a FA then the contract is no longer in effect therefore the no comp pick clause would no longer be valid at that point.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no
