The more likely scenario is they attempted a last ditch effort to try an trade him, which was silly to believe he had any trade value, and when there was zero interest, Manziel was waived.
Well, Imagine if you will, the Browns Release Manziel on Wednesday at 4PM and 15 minutes later, someone snaps him up.
I would think there would be an outcry from folks saying, hey, why didn't we try to trade him.

I assume 5 or so years from now when we finally have a title contender, we will lose to a Manziel led Cowboys team in the SB.
First, you're a dreamer if you think this team will be a title contender in five years. Not happening.
Second, Johnny may or may not end up on the Cowboy's roster this season, but I seriously doubt he's in the league five years from now. By then he will have assaulted five more women and been suspended for life. Once a woman beater, always a woman beater.
You only need to hit on 3-5 players to turn a "crappy" team into a playoff team..
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Someone snaps him up? Right.
I'm sure we would have all gotten over missing out on a conditional 7th round pick.
Additionally, someone signing him (which is extremely unlikely) does not mean someone was willing trade for him. The entire NFL knew he was getting cut.
I didn't like the player, then I learned not to like the person. The only thing I can say at this point was I wish he had proved me wrong on both counts but as it is, I believe we're seeing the classic addition by subtraction.
Too bad there's also been so much subtraction by subtraction this week. <sigh>

You need to hit on 3-5 players per year; not one-and-done.... and you have to not give away the quality players you already have.
We are so far into the bottom of the barrel, we're looking up at being crappy.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
Yeah, you cannot say you are going to build through the draft, then let really good talented drafted players walk when their first contracts are up. That makes no sense.
This team is a train wreck.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Someone on here would complain.. Guaranteed. Someone would insist that he was worth a 6th if we only got a 7th. Guaranteed.
Honestly, for me, I'm sorry he failed because it means the Browns failed. But now that he's gone, you won't see me shed a tear.

The three years Manziel cost the Browns lies completely at the feet of the Browns as an organization. At the top of the organization is Haslam.
The Manziel selection was clearly avoidable. The signs of his disaster were clear to anyone willing and able to look under the hood.
The Browns are once again in the quarterback market. It is disturbing that Kaepernick is even a consideration.
He is another guy with issues. Let alone the fact that he got beat out by Blaine Gabbert and his contract his off the charts. Enough surrounds this guy that a buyer beware sign should be hanging around his neck.
Hopefully the Browns have learned that you must scout the person as well as the player.
If I remember correctly, the Browns did a study on who was the best QB to take in that draft and it came back Teddy B. I personally liked Carr. Someone in our organization( and we all know who it probably was) wanted him for the attention and $ value it would mean for the Browns. That person got what he asked for and in the process set us back God knows how many more years. JMHO

I wanted Teddy also,, would have been very happy with Carr as well.
As for who's decision it was to draft Johnny, ahh, who cares, he's gone and it doesn't help to rehash it over and over again. I would like to think that Brown was smarter than that, but look at the rest of his drafts and you can see, he may not have been.

Judging by your celebration it seems you also don't care that we failed in drafting a first round QB.
Evidently the single biggest cause for Joy in Cleveland is the day you finally admit you really screwed up and set the franchise back a couple years yet again...
We should start planning the celebration now for 2-3 years when we have to cut whoever our QB is next year... should be quite a raucous shindig.

Not really, its key that one of the 5 players you hit on be a QB, which is the difficult part. But 5 good to great players spread out over your team allows average players around them to play better.. making the team better.
And we didn't give anyone away.
We made offers to each guy (except maybe Gipson, not sure)
The Benji extension was "80% complete" We offered Mack a comparable contract. We offered Schwartz more than he took..

I didn't want Manziel when they drafted him,and I'm glad he's gone now. The only reason he wanted to come to Cleveland at the draft was the 1st round was winding down and he wanted to be a 1st round pick. He got what he wanted then and he's getting what he wants now. Just watch, now he will become a model citizen. We can only hope he gets suspended!!!
Miami is the team thats taking any and all expensive, declining vets.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
You gotta give it up to Johnny for always "Saying the right thing" and doing the exact opposite. Glad he's finally off our team. This failed experiment should have never started. I didn't think we could draft a worse QB than Weeden. I was surprised. Good riddance.
Oh man,, no I hadn't seen that or even heard it existed. Man,, that girl needs some help also.
Well, Johnny has a ton of free time now, so maybe he can help her.. Oh wait, there is a restraining order against him.. never mind
there is an old saying tho "you are who you hang with"
And Josh Gordon has been hanging out with Manziel quite a lot.
Hopefully we find a new team for him as soon as he's reinstated. (if he's reinstated)

JG has been hanging out with Johnny Jobless quite a lot?
I wasn't aware of that.
Regardless - question about Johnny Jobless: My understanding is, he doesn't have an agent. So, how does a team that may be interested in him go about contacting him? Hang out at bars and strip clubs?
They certainly can't call him in the morning hours.

at the last UFC fight only one I know of
I bet you're wondering the samething I did, why O' why didn't I take the...blue pill
Kid had a lot of potential... Gotta admit when he got drafted I was worried about the off field but excited for some of the things he did on the field... Hope he gets some help
Manziel pulled wool over quite few eyes He's was fools gold from the getgo. But then again every QB since 1999 has always Been THE GUY that's called the savior. Has their been a worse team at judging QBS THAN THE BROWNS?
No, we take the cake on loser QBs AND for drafting horror, besides HOMERS praising our next season, we have been in the cellar because we continue to waste draft picks....hope the academic guys are better than the football guys-they sucked.....GO Browns!!!!
