I'm neither for or against this current FO. I'm am puzzled why many think it is Sashi and the gang and not the players and/or their agents.

To play devil's advocate, when Sashi said he wanted to keep players and didn't, he is a liar. When players state they wants to stay and signed elsewhere, it is Sashi's fault. Why is it not fair to say players love to say if Sashi offers me the highest paid contract, I'd love to stay!

In the case of Schwartz, I really think his agent screwed up big. Sashi gave him highest paid RT contract offer. They passed on the offer hoping to drive up the price. Hold on here...shouldn't the agent have known what the going rate would be talking with teams during legal tampering? Agent assumed by talking with other teams Sashi would up the offer. When Sahsi did not, he is an idiot.

I wish I knew how much Sashi was involved last two years in contract talks. I like to think it was all Farmer. My gut says Sashi helped. These players should never have reached FA. They should all been re-signed last year. Players could have received nice contracts and signed way cheaper than waiting the day before FA signing. If that is the biggest criticism against Sashi, I agree.

I do think fans are being a little one sided. It is much easier to blame the new leaders. After all majority thought Farmer needed to go. Once he is gone, next hire will save the Browns. Did most really think it was going to get better right from the start?

2 sides to every coin. We lost some talented players but none we cant live without. 2 years ago,Farmer gave us absolutely zero depth. Right now, I think Grecco and Erving will compete at center and we will be OK. Grecco wasnt bad at center when he replaced Mack, guard was so bad we had to move Grecco back to guard lol.

Schwartz was a good RT but I do prefer a more powerful run blocker at RG and RT. We may lose a little in pass protection but we have an opportunity to gain in back in run blocking.

Benji was a wuss, replace him with the kid that ran the 4.19 lol

I like campbell and Poyer at safety, I would actually like to move Gilbert to safety. Hell I think it was Vers first time I gave him some footage on Gilbert that said, he could be a great free safety but that kid isnt an NFL corner lol. We knew when farmer didnt want to speak to Gipson about a contract he was lost but he wasnt close to the player he was 2 years ago.

robertson is not hard to replace.

Bad and his play on special teams coverage is gonna be missed. he sucked at corner but damn that kid balled on special teams.

anyway its disappointing we lost these guys but it is far from the sky is falling roster moves. We have 10 picks and there will be guys we can trade for and sign some of the roster cuts that will be taking place.

We really have a high quality staff on offense lets see what they can do with the young guys. I am much more worried about our O at this point.

Sashi has the task to clean up the errors Farmer and Hecker left behind.
Where on his resume does it say he's qualified to take
On such a task?
And that baseball guy that came from the Mets...what's his qualifications?
Point blank this franchise needs to find a franchise QB

To be fair, I have zero experience running a front office but I have absolutely no doubts at all that I would have done a better job than any GM we have had since the return.

There are posters on this board who would have done a better job drafting, and I truly believe that.

I try, but I get sick of guys like you who ALWAYS make it personal.

So, when you come at me w/comments like this:

Quote:
I believe some are bordering on being completely irrational...

Don't expect me to talk football w/someone who IS NOT talking football, but simply insulting everyone who doesn't agree w/him.

And no matter how many times you have been proven wrong and I right..........you still resort to subtle cheap shots like that one.

You actually posted that with a straight face? If you read the post, it is readily apparent that I was making a comment about the post, not the posters. Geez Vers, you make it difficult to keep the gloves on...

Are Browns getting it right by doing nothing?

Posted by Mike Florio on March 14, 2016, 9:54 AM EDT
link

At a time when Browns fans are increasingly distressed by the franchise’s failure to keep key players who left via free agency or to replace them with other key players, there’s a Costanze-esque theory making the rounds that, by doing the opposite of what they’ve done in past years, the Browns may finally be getting it right.

Bill Livingston of the Cleveland Plain Dealer advances that notion on behalf of the Browns, at a time when no one is saying much of anything on behalf of the Browns.

Whether it’s because of action or inaction, things simply haven’t worked for the Browns in recent years. One of the guys who left the team within the past week but who spent four years in the franchise has no concrete explanation for the struggles.

“It’s a bevy of things,” Gipson said on Friday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio. “It’s not just free agency signings in the past or wrongful use of draft picks or wrongful use of players. It’s just a combination of a lot of things, and I wouldn’t say it’s all on the front office and I dang sure wouldn’t say it’s all on the players. I think that at some point the players, the front office, and the coaches all gotta get on the same page or it’s just going to continue to be a 4-12, 5-11 team. . . . The Cleveland Browns fan base, they deserve better than that. They more than certainly deserve better than that. . . . I’m always going to be rooting for them because they were the only team that took a chance on me but to answer that question I truly don’t know what it’s going to take to turn it around. But I know that it’s just going to continue to be a revolving door if it doesn’t get turned around year in and year out.”

As the Browns try to turn it around this year, some folks within the league were surprised by the decision of Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta to speak at the MIT Sloan Sports Analtyics Conference on Friday. Even if Cleveland’s current strategy is to do nothing, the thinking of some is that DePodesta, who is still new to football, should have been worried less about reflecting on the rise of Moneyball in baseball at the Sloan conference and more on figuring out the lay of the land in his new sport.

And even if DePodesta has the capacity to do what he needs to do while nevertheless engaging in a one-day detour, the decision to travel to Boston for third day of the new league year creates the perception that DePodesta doesn’t have the same single-minded focus necessary to turn around the franchise, once and for all.

Count me in as not thinking the MIT speech is such a big deal. Hard to imagine us putting any big decisions on hold on Friday, pending his return.

That's just sad. Even if we don't plan on adding anyone, plans can always change in a heartbeat in the NFL.I guess Moneyball was concerned about making more money for himself. banghead

I doubt that he agreed to come here just to make decisions on the color of the carpets, and the best foods to eat for breakfast.

DePodesta is a systems analyst. He is on the team to make sure everything is running smoothly overall. He may offer tips about how to procure talent, but he is not negotiating with anyone over contracts. That's Sashi Brown's job. If you are worried that DePodesta is speaking at the Sloan Conference (along with almost every basketball and baseball personnel person), then you have false worry. Also, DePodesta lives in San Diego (like he did when he was working for the Mets), so him not being in Cleveland is not a new thing.

If we haven't already identified players that we want at this point in free agency, then we are more screwed than we even think.

My sig. shows what they told us. The evidence shows what they've done. Either they were lying to us or they don't know what they're doing. You can decide which one for yourself.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

We are obviously rebuilding from scratch. If Hue gets fired in 2 years I am probably done with football forever because if I can't stomach to watch my own team I sure as hell am not wasting time on the sport anymore.

I think this front office is too full of themselves and don't know how to cater to veteran players they way they need to. I see some hard times in the future until these guys who think they are so smart eat some humble pie and learn the business of catering to players and treating them with some respect.

Quote:
“When I was going to the Browns,” DePodesta said, “I had met with the ownership, Jimmy and Dee Haslam, and they asked me, ‘What do you want out of an owner?’ And I said, ‘Well, I’ll tell you what I don’t want.’ I said, ‘If you ever take your kids to an amusement park at Disneyland or whatever, they beg you to go on the big daddy roller coaster. They beg you. You say, ‘Are you sure?’ They say, ‘Absolutely, I want to go on this thing.’ So you wait in line for 45 minutes, it takes up a good chunk of your day, you finally get to the front of the line, they eyeball it, and they say, ‘Uh, I’m not getting on that thing. Not at all.’ And that’s what happens to a lot of owners. They would say, ‘Hey, we want ‘Moneyball,’ we want this disciplined approach to what we’re doing.’ But then when it comes time to making that hard decision, they say, ‘I don’t want any part of this.’ I said, ‘I need someone who’s going to want to get on the roller coaster with me knowing that it’s not always going to be fun. There are going to be parts of the roller coaster that are going to be scary, that are going to be uncomfortable, but hopefully at the end of the ride when we get off, you’re going to want to say, let’s do that again.’ But I think that’s how we always got through it, was having that shared vision from the beginning and giving you the conviction to actually go through with it.”

So much for the posters who claimed we're not going to be a money ball kind of team. We certainly are. Only this isn't baseball.

Some folks complain about a guy having a life and speaking at MIT...MIT would NEVER ask Butch, Holmgren, Clark, etc...to speak, they aren't smart enough....time will tell IF this works, but I'm all in on brains vs brawn.....AND as far as PAMPERING millionaire players...good organizations like the Steelers and Pats say HIT the ROAD if you don't want to be here.....yes, we must hit on the draft....we will.....GO Browns!!!!

Use the money and draft picks wisely. Build and move forward. Go Browns!

Well, if losing every game by 20+ makes you happy, this coming season you should be quite happy indeed. 1-15 ought to really make you jump for joy....

If we find our QB of the future this year and get Myles Garrett in next year's draft (1-15 record->#1 pick), I'm down with that. This year will probably suck record wise, but hopefully we can see a team start to come together and establish an identity. As long as they are playing hard and our young guys are getting better, I'll probably keep watching.

1-15? When did you become an optimist? Sadly, 016 won't surprise me seeing as we have not acquired any talent. We're not going to win any games with a team full of scrubs.

It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!
