Would I take Cardale Jones with pick #2?

Nope

Would I take him with pick # 65 or #96 when he makes a throw like this?

You bet!

I'd take him even if I already had a starting QB.
QB's that have his size and arm that can also scramble just do not appear very often in the draft.

Yes he's a lottery ticket, but you can't win if you don't play.

That's not even one of his good throws... A little underthrown. The cut ups vs Maryland and vs Virginia Tech on draft breakdown are textbook.

Yeah, a bit underthrown.

Kinda interesting that you, Dep, and I all like this guy as a possible high reward guy.

Gotta give Guard credit for bringing him up first [recent posts.]

I appreciate the acknowledgment Vers, you didn't have to do it but you did.

To me Jones on-field potential makes him worthy of consideration. Then I think about where the franchise is overall. We took some major hits in FA, More holes now than any of us anticipated a month ago. Possibly getting Robert, owing no compensation for bringing him in, all draft picks at our disposal. Targeting Jones in the 3rd allows the team to add two players to provide immediate impact and then add a QB to be developed the right way.

That's how I envision it.

That article about RG3 competing with a top QB is a smoke screen imho. Why would you take a top QB in the first year of a rebuild with gaping holes in your O-line?

I could very easily see RG3 signed (or not) and Cardale Jones being our target QB in this draft. As a matter of fact I would like the move. Low investment, high potential return and we know he can make the throws in Ohio. This makes too much sense though, Go Browns!

To secure the future of your franchise.

Ala Aikman, George, Bledsoe, McNair, Manning, Vick, Palmer, Manning, Ryan, Newton, Luck.

And don't tell us neither of Goff and Wentz won't be every bit as solid as any of those guys. We won't know for 3-5 years.

I don't pay much attention to mock drafts, but I was watching NFL Network for a bit last night and noticed that Wentz and Goff had both fallen in a couple of the mock drafts.

I think they like to put a lot of different lineups out so that their chances of getting each team right at least once increases. That and they like to change up their talking points so viewers don't get sick of hearing the same thing over and over. I did see that someone there had us taking Tunsil now, meh. Talented guy, but Manziel has me stressing any "character" red flags this draft class.

I didn't read the entire thread or the first of this thread.

But just wondering what folks think of Cody Kessler?

First one was a turd but he modified his delivery a bit after that and got the ball to the right spot. No real issue with what I saw there. It was probably one of the best prodays i have seen from a QB. We may not take him but he certainly increased the value of the #2 pick as did Goff.

rumor going around that the Rams and 49ers are having in depth talks about a draft day trade for #2. Both looking to land Goff and not Wentz.

I've heard rumor of the Eagles trading up with us for Wentz, but it's all just rumor at this point. I didn't see anything at the pro day to change my opinion of Wentz. Still like him at 2, especially if the Titans take Ramsey. The potential Eagles trade is intriguing, not sure how much truth to it though.

that would be pretty crazy with the two contracts they just gave to two QBs.

If that trade happened, we'd be picking at #8 which would mean Wentz and Goff would be gone when we picked.

That either means Lynch or no QB in round 1.

Maybe a trade of Bradford to the Broncos? Yeah, I'm not sure how it would work, Steve.

Yep, that's what'd mean, Deputy. But hopefully also a 2nd and/or 3rd to use on one of the developmental QBs and other holes- while going BPA at 8.

I would be fine with that. Lynch is still my favorite Qb in this draft, though Wentz is growing on me. I want to like Goff but just can't get all in behind him.

I would expect at least the Eagles 1st round pick in next year's draft as a starting point.

Another article to add to the pile. Has the top 3 QB's OC's talking about that QBs responsibilities in his offense:

Watched the Wentz Pro day.

Quite frankly I don't know what else a quarterback prospect can do.

From college tape, to Senior Bowl week, to the Combine and now his Pro day he has made his case.

The Browns are in position to get a really good quarterback prospect. I can only hope they take advantage.

There are I would say 5 "Blue Chip" prospects in this draft..

Ramsey
Bosa
Tunsil
Buckner
Jack

So it would take a lot of compensation for me to consider moving out of the Top 5, assuming we aren't going QB at 2.

However, say we move down to 8. And then can grab a guy like Treadwell plus more picks? I'd be ok with that..

I'd also consider Elliot the closer we get to the teens..

There is also the legitimate chance that The SFs and Dallas' of the world actually pass on Goff and Wentz, and after moving down, we can still get them.. You don't move down hoping that obviously.. But it's not impossible..

Ok, this is a little misleading. I read today on my NFL Mobile app that Wentz addressed the wet ball thing.

He said (and I'm paraphrasing now) When Hamilton (Pep) wet the ball, the first one I threw hit the ground. (thus the one on the video)

He went on to say that after he got used to it, he didn't have any problems with a wet ball.

Sounds like this is just flat out misleading.

here is the link. I thought it was on the NFL.com site, but it was on the Browns main site.. Sorry if I confused any one.

All that was necessary was to watch his Pro day.

For someone to make a comment like that it just shows he did not watch Wentz's Pro day.

If that is the case then listen to those who did. People that have been to hundreds of Pro days.

The talent is so obvious I don't know what else can be said.

His first wet ball nose-dived into the ground. The next one all the rest were fine. One of the wet balls went right through the WR hands. He was wearing gloves. He looked at his hands then looked at Wentz and smiled/chuckled. Who's expecting wet balls at a Pro Day?

After the Goff pro day, he should have been expecting it. If not then he isn't as smart as everyone proclaims

I guess it depends on how hard you're working out.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

So who gave the QBs wet balls, ever, besides the Browns this year? And I know that sounded bad, part of the reason I didn't change it. wink

I'm sure some of our former free agents felt like that's what the Browns handed them too.
