I did not formulate my opinion out of thin air. I'll stand by my comments.

Nor did I.

As somebody who has taught for over 20 years, in two states and in two countries I too will very confidently stand by my comments.

Don't take it the wrong way...I have clearly experienced and observed very different things than you. I think it is ok for somebody to disagree, share and to state why they disagree. Isn't that what we teach our own kids and our students?

Yes, I agree.

I have seen similar things that you have. We had a great food drive last year. We are Title One school. Kids really stepped up. The teachers really stepped up, if you get my meaning.

I worked at an Alternative School in E. Cleveland for awhile. We had armed guards, dogs, metal detectors. Many of the kids were gang members or had siblings who were. Ask Swish what it would take to get kicked out of E. Cleveland public schools. We had a great food drive there, as well.

What I was referring to is years of experience of watching kids who are entitled. I wasn't trying to be mean. Just real.

We too are Title One and I am astounded at how generous the community and the kids are when it comes to raising money and cans for our local Food Bank. Again, these are kids who already don't have much and will probably be accessing the food bank themselves. To raise more than the wealthier and middle class schools is brilliant and incredibly inspiring to me.

My observations on the whole entitlement thing is that entitlement spreads throughout the western world. In Europe (and I assume Australia and NZ too) entitlement seems to be mainly confined to middle and upper classes. What I think is unique to the USA is that entitlement seems to be entrenched in all classes. Maybe that stems from the whole "I am American and therefore...(fill in the blank)" attitude? I don't know. Maybe it is because even our poor seem to have cars, phones etc. and if one is hungry there are many places that look after you. Contrast to poor in Europe and there isn't quite the charity and those who are very poor wont have cars (not to mention several) .

That's an interesting post. Thanks.....it made me think.

I do disagree [if I am reading you right] about the middle class. My experience has been that they are the ones who work the hardest and complain the least.

But anyways.....I enjoyed your post. Thanks for sharing.

Making it all the more head scratching to me why Bernie Sanders isn't doing better than he is. Or, even more perplexing...why Trump is doing as well as he is. Afterall, Trump is the epitome of the "1%" that so many of us in the middle and working class cried fowl about just a few years ago. Remember that? My what short memory we all have. How is he able to speak to so many who are nowhere near the 1%? Alas, politics is a head scratcher. And, this year, no less, is a complete bizarre mystery to me.

I am not very political. They all depress me. However, I hear you on Bernie. I just whispered that. LOL.......don't want to make this a political conversation. Too many extremists.

Well..........you and I got off to a rocky start, but I admire the job you are doing w/at-risk youths. Keep up the good work, man!!!!

It's the most important job in the world!
