I'm looking to go on a hunt in the coming weeks and wondered if anyone knows of any good spots to find them or has any tips on taking a couple of hogs. From reading the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources site, it looks like most known locations are in southeastern Ohio, around Athens.
For those that don't know, feral swine are a non-native invasive species and as such have no Closed Season. The State of Ohio encourages anyone and everyone to hunt them in an effort to extinguish their population as they are highly destructive.

FL and TX are the best states Ive heard to hunt them. I think the further South you go the higher their population.

I don't think you're going to have much luck in Ohio, better head south.

Preferably... or perhaps Pennsylvania, I guess. Looking at a weekend trip, at most.

Wish I could help you out. I've never done hog hunting, but it's on the bucket list. Myself, I'd probably head south.
Wish I had a rich uncle that owned a ranch in Texas.
Many private property owners (ranchers) welcome hog hunters with open arms from what I've been told.
And, there are many "guided" hunts available as well.
What gun will you be using?

I'll be using my Mosin's and I'll have my 1911 in case something charges at me. Basically, looking for a way to give my Mosin's a job.... I need them to be for more than just target plinking, or I may as well sell them. I'm coming to believe that a firearm without a job is utterly pointless.... because, afterall, they are just tools. In Ohio, there isn't much you can do with a rifle that fires bottleneck cartridges, so hog hunting is my solution that has the added benefit of allowing me to do a pig roast

I don't know Arps. I think that takes all of the sport out of it.

I *AM* going to Texas in a couple of months, so I suppose I could just throw the guns in the car when I go, but I'd have to alter my route to avoid Illinois because they just simply suck when it comes to transporting firearms. Of course, then I have to worry about shipping the meat home and all that, too... but, it might be worthwhile.

You could always have the meat processed there and bring it back with dry ice. I'm not sure which would be the most economical.

Can you eat those things? Most certainly. They're delicious. They make for great sausage in the casings and the chops and tenderloins are fantastic. Being wild, they have a bit stronger flavor but to me that makes them even better.

Anywho hell yeah come to Texas we have a crap load of wild Hogs and they are delicious as long as you drain the blood and get the glands cut right away.
To remove the gamey taste, soak it in buttermilk

I'll be racing in Lubbock on June 26th; probably get down there the weekend before. The only question is whether or not to bring the rifles, I guess. I guess maybe I should look around to see if there is a way to get out on an organized hunt while I'm there.

HAVE A GOOD TIME. It is a fun hunt. I always liked hunting hogs.
As some have said, hogs do better in warmer climates. SC, Ga, Fla,Ala,Miss,La, Tx. You will find all the bacon you want.
