Titans Trade Top Pick, Acquire Multiple Picks from Rams
Posted 7 minutes ago

Tennessee agrees to send No. 1 overall pick to Los Angeles Rams in exchange for multiple picks, giving Titans six of the top 76 selections in this year's draft.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two weeks before the NFL Draft, the Titans have pulled off a historic trade aimed to “bolster the roster” and better the team for years to come.

The Titans have agreed to trade the No.1 pick of the draft to the Los Angeles Rams for the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, two second-round picks (43 and 45), and a third-rounder (76) in 2016. The Titans will also receive the Rams’ first-round pick in 2017, along with their third-round pick in next year’s draft.

In addition to Tennessee’s No.1 pick this year, the Rams will also receive a fourth-round pick (113) and sixth-round pick (177) in 2016.

As a result of the trade, the Titans now have six picks in the top 76 in this year’s draft – 15, 33, 43, 45, 64 and 76. The Titans already held picks 33 and 64.

“Being able to acquire six players in the top 76 this year, along with next year when you factor that into it — I am assuming five in the top three rounds — that is 11 players that we can add to this football team that should not only increase our depth, but give us good quality players at all those positions,’’ Titans general manager Jon Robinson said.

“In the end we thought it was a decision that was best for this football team. It made sense for us to do it, and that’s why we moved on it. We talked to several teams about the pick. There was interest in the pick, and in the end we thought this was the option that made the most sense for us...We think we can really bolster this roster with the picks that we now have.”

Robinson said the two teams made the trade now for planning purposes for both teams leading up to the April 28-30 draft in Chicago. The two teams had been in discussions for several weeks before “things fell into place” on Thursday morning. Robinson said he “talked to a couple of teams” over the last few weeks about the pick.

“There wasn’t any framework in place (from a previous deal) that we were working off of,’’ Robinson said. “With the No.1 overall pick, there were a lot of factors that were talked about in making that move and in the end we weighed all of those factors and what it would take for a team to come to the No.1 overall pick.

“In the end this was a deal we agreed on.”

Robinson took over as general manager of the Titans earlier this offseason after working previously in front offices with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Today’s trade is yet another bold move for Robinson, who traded for former Eagles and Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray earlier this offseason. The Titans have added 10 new players this offseason.

“It is a big decision for this football team,’’ Robinson said of the trade. “It is not often that you have the number one pick and we hope to not be in this position again. But we tried to use that pick as currency to work the draft and maximize our player acquisition.”

In recent days, the Titans have entertained Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey and Oregon defensive lineman DeForest Buckner on pre-draft visits. The team is also scheduled host Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil and Ohio State defensive lineman Joey Bosa.

Robinson said the trade only rules one thing out for the Titans. With plenty of ammunition, he acknowledged the team has plenty of options leading up to the draft.

“This move does not knock us out of any player, except one,’’ Robinson said. “We now have the ammunition to work the draft and acquire players that are going to be good for this football team.”

TRADE BY NUMBERS

Titans receive from Rams:
1st round pick (15 overall)
2nd round pick (43)
2nd round pick (45)
3rd round pick (76)
1st round pick in 2017
3rd round pick in 2017

Rams receive from Titans:
1st round pick (1 overall)
4th round pick (113)
6th round pick (177)

Well there goes our top choice of QB. I'd be cool with Ramsey or Bosa now.

I said early on that the Browns should have jumped on swapping with the Titan and not risked the chance of losing their shot at their pick for QB.

It would have been a cheap price to pay to move from #2 to #1...and the Browns didn't do it.

It never ends with this franchise...never!

Why would the Titans make the trade with the Browns when they got a haul from the Rams?

Furthermore, reports indicate Goff is the Browns target, not Wentz.

Yep. Now the Browns best move is to trade down if possible (assuming the Browns can get a similar haul). That possible trade with Buffalo and Denver is horrible.

There is no player in this draft that is worth what the Rams just gave up. This has been a very strange offseason for them one I am sure most of their fans would like to forget.

San Fran might be sweating bullets now. They might want to jump up to #2 to get whoever is left. Who knows what they might pay.

The price they paid is irrelevant if they end up with their QB for the next 10-12 years.

Goff seems the better fit in LA to me culture wise, but Wentz may remind Fisher of McNair.

Hopefully another team is willing to give up a similar haul, if Wentz isn't our guy.

Okay if they take Wentz, we really need to see who we can shop our pick to and try a trade.

I love Bosa, but unless it's a Qb - we have too many needs right now. But danggg did the rams give up a ton to move up. Ouch.

grim...the Rams want the best QB...not the one who fits the culture.

The culture in the NFL is you win with the best players.

I get the strange feeling the Rams are going to draft Goff. Just a hunch.

I have a different take, mac.

I don't think the Browns should have moved up. Instead, I wish they would have made that trade w/the Rams. Getting all those picks would have gone a long way in rebuilding this team.

Doesn't it make more sense to keep Goff in Cali? I bet it's Goff.

If they really aren't high on Goff, they could still probably move down with the 9ners. I'd prefer they took him, but who knows what they will do. This is a dream scenario for me, if reports are true and they love Wentz (who I am not as high on) then Goff is a no brain choice IMO.

I agree, stay where we are or make that trade with the Rams. That is a lot to give up. I don't think any player in this draft is worth that. JMO.

I'd had loved to acquire all those picks. Yes sir. No one single player going to make us a playoff team, so let's get the picks and build our nucleus.

1. @#*($)@%$^@()@!
2. We had our franchise guy in our grasps and poof...gone man we can't catch a freaking break.
3. What would make posters think that the Rams offered us that deal? When it was the Titans with the sure thing in achieving their target. Of course our guys must be dolts cause we turned that down...smh I don't see it that way at all.

4. Goff is not our target never was...its always been Wentz. No I don't have links.

I can't believe this happened. Fisher continues to haunt us. I hate the guy!

Agreed. And if Goff (or Wentz) isn't seen as a franchise guy, let's just get Tunsil. This fills the RT hole and gives us a guy who can replace Joe Thomas when the time comes.

I know a lot of folks don't want a tackle, but to me, it's a no brainer. We either see the other QB as a franchise guy, continue to entertain trade down deals, or draft Tunsil.

I just don't think Ramsey or Bosa are worth the number two pick.......

If we think Rams grab "our guy" at 1 then, if we stay at 2, I would either take Ramsey or Buckner.
