I tried to do a NEED based draft (I know that could mean just about anything). My basis was this...this new coaching staff is putting their eggs in the RGIII basket. If he has any chance of succeeding, they will need to draft a whole new bevy of weapons. The cupboard is bare on this roster and free agency brought nothing to help...so THAT is the sole basis of this draft done on Fanspeak, with no trades.

April 21, 2016 Fanspeak
8: R1P8 WR LAQUON TREADWELL OLE MISS
32: R2P1 WR WILL FULLER NOTRE DAME
65: R3P2 S VONN BELL OHIO STATE
77: R3P14 RB DEVONTAE BOOKER UTAH
99: R4P1 OLB YANNICK NGAKOUE MARYLAND
100: R4P2 OLB JAYLON SMITH (ILB)NOTRE DAME
138: R4P40 QB CARDALE JONES OHIO STATE
141: R5P2 OLB VICTOR OCHI STONY BROOK
172: R5P33 S JAYRON KEARSE CLEMSON
173: R5P34 FB GLENN GRONKOWSKI KANSAS STATE
176: R6P1 DT ANTWAUN WOODS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
223: R7P2 OT WILLIE BEAVERS WESTERN MICHIGAN

I sprinkled in what I felt was value picks, like Vonn Bell...and risk/reward picks like Jaylon Smith (possibly the best LB in this draft). With as many picks as they have accumulated, the Browns can afford the risky pick.

Now that would be a great scenario. I would like nothing more then to come away with one of the top WR's in this Draft, but it might be to high a price @ 8.

While I would be bummed about missing out on all the top wide receivers in the class, I would be jumping up and down all night and Friday morning until the pick came in and we didn't take Robert Nkemdiche or Noah Spence at 32.

Both have top 15 grades...
We are i think going to have some pretty darn good players to chose from @ 32.

I really like Kamalei Correa if he's there and the top 3 WR's are off the board.

I am having a hard time interpreting that. Are you saying you would be mad if we took one of those guys at 32 or you would happy?

I would be thrilled if we got one of those two guys at 32. Tickled pink. But I bet their off-field questions will steer us away from them in light of recent events (Gordon, Manziel, Bryant, and to a lesser extent, Gilbert). Then I will be bummed seeing us pass on them.

Latest 7 round mock posted by Drafttek has the Browns looking like this;

3-2 Nassib DE
3-14 Ifedi OT
4-1 Jones QB
4-2 Boehm C
4-40 Martinez ILB

I'm not a QB in the top 10 guy this draft, but I had to pick him - some potential irony there. The rest of the draft I'd be kind of stoked about. Speed, toughness, and versatility would be the description of the draft. As much as I like Kirkland, he was a hesitation pick. I chose him thinking he could move inside to OG and Bitonio could go to RT. Martinez was a value pick

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 8: Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State (A+)
Round 2 Pick 5 (BALT): Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame (A-)
Round 3 Pick 2: Su'a Cravens, SS, Southern California (A)
Round 3 Pick 7 (BALT): T.J. Green, FS, Clemson (A)
Round 3 Pick 14: Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State (A)
Round 4 Pick 1: Deion Jones, ILB, LSU (A)
Round 4 Pick 2: C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame (B)
Round 4 Pick 40 (COMP): Max Tuerk, C, Southern California (A+)
Round 5 Pick 2: Hassan Ridgeway, DE, Texas (A-)
Round 5 Pick 33 (COMP): Beau Sandland, TE, Montana State (A-)
Round 5 Pick 34 (COMP): Denver Kirkland, OG/OT, Arkansas (B-)
Round 6 Pick 1: Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford (A-)

I'm not a TJ Green fan, McKinzy is an ILB, and I don't know who Dixon is, but I would LOVE that draft.

Who went 1 and 2? Can't imagine Wentz falling to 8 after the Rams and Eagles move up.

Rd.2 Pk.12 Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana

Rd.3 Pk.2 Sean Davis, DB, Maryland
Rd.3 Pk.14 Darius Latham, DL, Indiana

I think Tenn will trade back into the top 5 for Ramsey.

Also, that's way too much to move from 15 to 8. They can go up to 5 for 15, 43, & 64. If JAX and TEN weren't in the same division I'd call that move a lock. One of Tunsil or Ramsey will probably be there at 5.

If they want Ramsey, I would think that they would need to trade to #3. SD let Weddle go and although they could really use Tunsil, you can't rule them out for taking Ramsey.

I think the system had Tennessee trade into #2 and pick up Tunsil. So, Goff & Tunsil.

I think we all know that is really unlikely to happen.

Yeah, the price did look a bit much, I looked up the draft trade chart afterwards.

In this draft, I'm not sure though. Top 10 then a decent drop in talent supposedly.

I think Tenn goes OT. They have to protect Mariota better. Some decent upper tier depth at Tackle let them trade down, but if they see a run who knows.

With LeBeau at DC, I'm not sure the importance they'll place on corners. Seemed to prefer pass rush to coverage in Pitt.

I think the Jags could go Ramsey.

Rams-Goff
Eagles-Wentz
Chargers-Tunsil
Cowboys-Buckner
Jaguars-Ramsey
Ravens-Stanley
49ers-Lynch/Hargreaves/Jack/Conklin?

I think Tenn is targeting Stanley, Conklin, or Decker. They don't need to go as high as #5 in my opinion.

SD is probably seeing what they can get for the pick now. Vernon Hargreaves failed his combine drug test, so a team wanting a DB might make a move for Ramsey.

Ok, thanks. Was curious.

I can imagine Philly fans if they traded from 8 to 2, then down to 15.

Revised the earlier mock

Trade Rd.1 Pk.8 to Tenn (Conklin [SD-Tunsil,Baltimore-Stanley])

Receive Rd.1 Pk.15, Rd.2 Pk.14

Rd.1 Pk.15 Josh Doctson, WR, TCU
Rd.2 Pk.1 Shilique Calhoun. OLB/Nickel End, Michigan St.
Rd.2 Pk.14 Braxton Miller, Slot/H-Back/Return Specialist, OSU
Rd.3 Pk.2 Sean Davis, DB, Maryland
Rd.3 Pk.14 Darius Latham, DL, Indiana
Rd.4 Pk.1 Kalan Reed, CB, Southern Miss
Rd.4 Pk.2 Kevin Byard, FS, Middle Tennessee
Rd.4 Pk.40 Blake Martinez, ILB, Stanford
Rd.5 Pk.2 Darius Jackson, RB, EMU
Rd.5 Pk.33 Victor Ochi, OLB, Stony Brook
Rd.5 Pk.34 Moritz Boehringer, WR, Germany
Rd.6 Pk.1 David Morgan, TE, UTSA
Rd.7 Pk.2 Vernon Adams, QB, Oregon

Got rid of the other 2nd rounder and Spriggs. I still like it. Would like to get an O-Lineman, but we do have some guys who've had some time to develop in the league a bit on the roster.

We might be able to trade down from 2-1 and still get Calhoun while picking up a pick for a lineman.

No trades ... got this far and then really struggling to know who to pick ... but I gotta tell you I would be happy with this. (Cook went to Denver with the 31st pick, so had to make do with Lynch!)

Round 2 Pick 1: Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis (B)
Round 3 Pick 2: Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State (A+)

Round 4 Pick 1: Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia (B)
Round 4 Pick 2: Miles Killebrew, SS, Southern Utah (A-)
Round 4 Pick 40 (COMP): Roberto Aguayo, K, Florida State (A)
Round 5 Pick 2: Sean Davis, FS/CB, Maryland (B)

the more I've thought about it the more I want Myles Jack to fall to 8

I don't want Buckner, Stanley, or Conklin.

I'm concerned about Bosa and Elliot.

It's too high for a top WR.

Drafting Hargreaves seems depressing.

Jack is my guy ... unless we can trade back

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

GOTTA GET THAT GUY! lol laugh

How stupid are these guys...was it one of those prescribed medicines just not in line with the NFL list of banned drugs? That I guess is the key.

If Weed, they raised the failed test marker...to go to the combine and do some heavy partying 30-40 days before the combine, you just have to be plain STUPID! Don't these agents tell their clients???

8. Connor Cook qb Mich. St. Wentz was gone, this is the 2nd best qb in this, the team has quit on Manziel b4 he failed on the field, bummer to them, might as well start from scratch with Cook.

32. Derrick Henry rb Alab. I advocated staying with last years team and taking this guy with your first pick, b4 they gutted last years team.

Joshua Garnett Ol.Guard Stanford. One of the only players Ive read a paragraph on this year, and he was there and close to the top, a no brainer, (did he win the outland trophe for best interior lineman?

This sight lists browns team needs as 11 positions not including safety, and I know Whitner is gone, and Gipson; what the?

next, Max Teurck Ol. Center USC

next Adolphus Washington DT Ohio St.

I'm pretty happy with what was there at the time.

At some point I passed on S. Vonn Bell from OSU, because I was too intent on reading that sights listed team needs, how do they not say safety.

Ended up, 2 more picks with a wide receiver, and a corner both named Rashard that I know nothing about, b4 the computer crashed.

Rashard Higgins out of Colorado st. wide receiver ,

Rashard Robinson out of LSU. cornerback.

But in the end, I feel it's all so pointless that they won't keep anybody on this team from top to bottom for more than an average of 18 months.

They gutted the team to fill needs with draft picks, they will never get better doing that. They should stick with what they've got and draft best player available , so some part has a chance to get an upgrade.

the last 20 years has taught me one thing.
YOU CAN'T WIN DRAFTING CORNERS! YOU CAN'T WIN DRAFTING CORNERS!! That's Ridiculous.
(I think this team is going to draft a half dozen corners, and nobody can stop them.)

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

It's too high for a top WR.

Drafting Hargreaves seems depressing.

Jack is my guy ... unless we can trade back

Well mabye this will brighten your day
.. I read (don't have a link) that Hargreaves failed his pre-combine drug test.

even better if we draft him banghead

Reports of failed test by Vernon Hargreaves were phony

Posted by Mike Florio on April 22, 2016, 11:06 AM EDT

Well, it’s been an interesting hour or so.

Earlier today, we posted that there had been no leaks of failed drug tests at the Scouting Combine. Almost immediately, folks pointed out that there had been reports of a positive result from Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves. So I did a search on Twitter and found recent tweets that apparently were from Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media indicating that Hargreaves had failed his Scouting Combine drug test.

And, of course, both tweets came from impostor accounts, which posted the information on April 17.

The truth is that Hargreaves did not fail the Scouting Combine drug test. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Hargreaves has received no information suggesting a positive test. (He would have heard something from the NFL by now, if there was an issue with his sample.) Also, teams have heard nothing yet about any players testing positive at the Scouting Combine, which could be one of the reasons why there have been no leaks.

I apologize for the error. In moving quickly to rectify what I thought was an erroneous observation that there had been no leaks yet of any failed Scouting Combine drug tests, I fell for deliberately false tweets that had been made to look legitimate. The fact that there were two of them from different reporters caused me to erroneously assume the tweets were legitimate. They weren’t.

So, one more time: Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves did not fail his Scouting Combine drug test. Any tweets or reports indicating otherwise are erroneous.

Some of these reporters would do well to remember the old carpenter's rule: measure twice, cut once. Instead, he nearly ruined the biggest day of this young man's life. All to create clicks on his site. I give him credit for the public detraction, but the damage could be done already. Last, it really makes me wonder about some of these "whispers" about Bosa and Elliott using Ecstasy. Agendas abound, and its not beneath some of these GM's sense of right and wrong to issue false rumors about players to cause them to drop on the board come draft day.

Cook at 8 and I will need a new TV. It's likely we could drop to the 20s and still get him.

I wonder if a player could sue these people who make false reports, like the persons that tweeted the bogus information? Seems to me if for some reason this young man got drafted say in the 2nd round vs the 1st because of those tweets someone should be liable for the millions in money he lost. What say ye?

NFL teams aren't that dumb, but I agree w/you that the idiots who make up false tweets like that should be punished in some fashion.

I never understood people like that.

We have some attorneys on the board who could address that better than me. As far as libel / slander laws; it must be a tough standard to sue, because as often as I've heard of people threatening to sue The National Enquirer, I've yet to hear of a successful outcome from any complaints. Although I suppose there may have been settlements agreed to that we wouldn't know about.
