On First pick, I traded down multiple times to get a bunch of second round picks, then traded back up twice and I got...

Deforest Buckner (First)
Lequan Treadwell (first)
Reggie Ragland (first)
Sterling Shepherd
Scooby Wright
Pharoah Cooper

Are we setting deals up for #2? We would be foolish not to have deals set up all pending on which QB will be available...the guy we want or the guy we don't want. Or we take it anyways.

According to Adam Shecter - After we got RG3 we still were going for a QB at #2...hmmm I know Adam is diligent but he claims to know everything we are doing? Now that it is almost draft time we don't want the QB regardless of which one is available...we would rather stock pile draft picks cause we are so bare in talent.

Now get this...we will build the team and then (when we are winning 8-11 games a season) we will go get our Franchise QB? Ummm as if QB is a Luxery pick...lol laugh

Without a doubt I buy we are going to be ready to pull a trade if we desire to do so. I don't think its as clear cut as is being portrayed by everyone.

You know what I think...I think we fired certain scouts I think we possibly even fed them wrong information prior to firing them. I think that is the source these guys think they have to be so CERTAIN about things. You think we let these guys go knowing our definitely draft day secrets....Alive? lol laugh

If we are truly shopping the pick and telling everyone we aren't going QB, won't that reduce what other teams are going to offer? Why would any team offer a boatload of picks if we aren't drafting a QB and the QB may fall to them?

Perhaps we should draft the non-#1 QB and shop for the trade after that?

If I remember correctly, what was actually said was that the signing of RG# wouldn't affect our plans of drafting a Qb. That is very different from we are going to draft a Qb at #2.

We might not like either Goof or Wentz. In which case we wouldn't have drafted either even if we didn't sign RG3

There is a lot of gamesmanship going on right now. I think the team should explore potential trades. But honestly, if the offers don't return the value the team is looking for, draft Tunsil and don't look back.

In my mind that's also a win for the team.

Signing RGIII not expected to have any impact on what Cleveland does in draft.

A QB still expected to be the pick.

I'm not GM or Analytic Guru, with that said, I would wait until the end of round 1 for a trade down. Paying attention to past drafts, I've learned that teams re-assess where they are at the end of rounds. So, the #32 is an attractive draft slot. The Browns could be better served taking a lights out stud in round 1 and still getting value from dealing the #32 pick. There will be plenty of valuable WR, DT and DB options after a trade down from the 32 pick. Seems less risky and still impactful from where I sit.

Very true, guard. This pick, being the first pick of Day 2, should attract a lot of attention Thursday night into Friday...

Nothing says we can
't trade down from the #2 spot then again from the #32 spot.

WHo is this lights out stud you want to draft at #2? How many can you name? That's as far as you can trade down.

Wentz/Goff - They may not be studs, but the demand is there.

Tunsil - Presents better value then just a RT. Some believe he is the best player in the draft.

Ramsey - Better value at CB than FS.

Jack - Value is dependant on his recovery from injury.

Bosa - Not a stud IMO, plus possible character issues.

Elliot - Value hurt by possible character issues.

Those are the player I would characterize as having stud potential. (Note character issues for Bosa and Elliot). I would certainly expect a few risers out of the next dozen or so who are not thought of as studs currently.

I think that with all of the JT trade talk ... "A bird in hand is better than two in the woods". It would be foolesh to entertian without a bird in hand.

IMO ... It's too high to draft a FS or a WILL LB.

You're correct there is nothing preventing trades for both the #2 or #32. To me the question is return on investment. If the team is not offered enough for the #2 overall we have the luxury of using the pick on a consensus elite player overall. So the decision makers will have to make that judgement. I think the team can acquire more picks by using the #32. Possibly get back picks that amount to a more fair return. By auctioning the #32 you open up the market of teams who may covet other highly valued position players, not just a QB. When the dust settles on round 1 there should be some excellent DL and Corners still on the board, even some of the better WRs. Maybe somebody really wants one of these players and is willing to make a deal to get in position to draft one.

So by that assessment, you should be willing to trade down to #6 or 7 depending upon Jack's medical. Which scares me that he isn't fully recovered yet.

Did you forget about Buckner or do you not value him that much?

There was some report that Bosa and Elliot were roommates ans Bosa moved out because there were too many parties in their apartment. Or something along those lines.

My theory is to trade back to gain more picks both this year and next year. Turn the picks this year in to weapons for the QB. Unlike how we have done it in the past, I say build the team, then get the QB.

Take the pick(s) we gain next year and our own pick(s) next year to get Deshaun Watson. Then we are in business.

I agree in theory; however, what if there is no clear cut franchise QB again next year, including Watson?

I remember before Tajh Boyd's final season at Clemson, most mocks had him as a top 3 pick and a future NFL star ... and then he fell off the map and was drafted in like the 6th round.

I"m not pretending to know how good/bad the 2017 QB stock is, I'm just expressing my skepticism in banking on the future.

I agree with Peen. If we can load up on draft picks, we could really build a foundation, a core, to help us turn the ship around.

In regards to the chance of not finding a franchise QB... scouts will find someone, just like they did this year in Carson Wentz. There will always be someone.

Give RG3 the keys. Add a WR or two this year, and build this horrid defensive front 7.

Not opposed to a deal like this at all if we don't like the QBs being discussed.

As of late-March, after the Browns signed RGIII, he said that the team's plan was to still draft a quarterback at No. 2 overall:

My reaction was to what Adam S said - his quote above.

Yes, I agree I'm pretty sure that is what OUR GUYS said, the signing of RG3 does not change our position on drafting a QB.

My point is - the closer to draft time "REPORTS" on what we do are less valid. And I strongly believe our Harvard trio love the skull duggery of pre-draft if we believe PaulD on his account of slipping out info on Kap keeping people in the dark of our Intentions on RG3.

If we get a 1st and 3rd this year and 1st and 2nd next year, then that works for me. Maybe a young player. I think I read the offer right now was 1st and 3rd this year and next. Maybe by holding off we get them to up the ante some.

Of course, there is that one article that has us dropping to #4 for a 6th round pick. So that's an option as well saywhat

If we are seriously fielding offers, time is on our side for now. Don't like the idea, but if you get a bidding war going, two or three, the price gets hard to pass on. That said, I still favor getting yours upfront. Play after round one. Loading up on "not the best player available" doesn't strike me as sound judgment, analytics be hanged. And if we are reaching into next year, that seems like drawing to an inside straight.

I would like to come away from a draft without gritting my teeth and hating it.

In addition to the "time is on our side" angle, if we do make the trade now instead of during the draft, it gives teams behind us time to guess who we may be targeting and negotiate a way to move up if they also want the same player we do. At least if we make a move on draft day the environment is far more hectic and time is extremely limited. Even if a deal is done or we know we're ready to accept one, I wouldn't execute it until we're on the clock.

Why do we (some, not all) root for the team to lose out so the Browns secure a top draft choice, but when the draft rolls around all of a sudden everyone wants to trade down?

Quantity over quality.

I'm against a trade down.
