I would bet on it.

They weren't willing to settle for Goff so the trade makes sense to me.

FWIW Mike Silver just said on Twitter he is Confident the Rams are taking Goff.

If he's the QB they want then they damned sure should take him at 8. Move down to 15 and you can bet someone would take Lynch at 14.

The best part, pointed out by a work associate - Eagles suck, and we're definitely going to suck, so we'll have two high first rounders for next year lol.

At the start of this process I gave Wentz a late 2nd round grade and Goff a mid first round grade. So, I am happy with this trade.

Moving up and down in the draft has served us so well in the past. Another dumb move IMO. Time will tell.

The Eagles DID suck, that doesn't mean they will continue to do so.... Browns are never lucky in that regard.

We're a top 10 in 2017 and 18 too.
Nobody really talked too much if at all of Goffand Wentz before this draft season and I'm guessing a few other names will pop up and blossom before the 2018 draft.

Myles Jack was the name I heard most for the Browns this past week. Doubtful he's there at 8, but possible.

Love the trade. I think the Eagles may very well be a top 5 pick next year.

I fully expect another trade down from 8 unless Buckner is there.

Agreed. Same every year. People tend to look at the "best of the year" and assume that makes someone a franchise qb. Every year.

Franchise QB's don't have to be drafted in the top 5. If we are fortunate enough to build this team the right way and win some games, we have plenty of ammo to move up if we find that franchise guy in there future.

Build the team, then do whatever you need to do to find that franchise guy. Set him up for success.

If this turns out to be accurate, we fleeced them.

Oh, this came up from the Browns facebook page.. Wish I could post a link but I'm sure it won't be but a few minutes before it's available everywhere.

We fleeced them? Not if that QB they take turns out to be a franchise player. Then they fleeced US. If Wentz is the guy and he turns out to be a top five QB every year while we never find one? How great is the deal then? If we blow the picks we got how great is the trade? Time will tell who fleeced who. [/quote

You are absolutely right, if the QB at 2 turns out to be a top 5 player every year, we likely had a bad deal. Saying that there is no possible way this can be evaluated until all the picks are done and then maybe a year later.

I am not saying this will happen but what if the Eagles are terrible and next year we pick top 5 with their pick.

Someone else wrote this last week and Vers concurred. It matters not where you pick, if the guys doing the picking get it wrong, you will fail.

If Wentz is available at 2, then this could be a mistake, but not necessarily. I can understand their thinking with the overall state of this roster. Getting back two future high picks indicates that this is a long term thing and as much as I dislike it, first year regimes always want feel the need to evaluate what they have before committing to a rookie QB.

I like it in the sense that we are trying to create a new culture here, and adding a ton of young hungry guys is important.

If these young guys come in with the right mindset, and good coaching, i think there could be a shift in the atmosphere in Cleveland.

This draft class could turn things around.. or it could be a total waste.. only time will tell.

Maybe we are taking Cardale to develop... would not be unhappy about that, he can make all the throws. Last year he would have been top 5 or 10.

We now have 6 of the top 100 picks.

No. 8, 32, 65, 77, 99, 100!

Several posters have wondered if we would have another trade down but I am curious with the Browns holding 2 3rd & 3 4th round picks would they use one or more of those to move up into the first from pick 32?

I doubt we will end up with 12 rookies.

Awesome.

Great trade.

If you don't like the QB that is available, trade down. I'd expect there is another trade down coming during the draft.

We are gathering assets.

What I'm bummed about with this is we didn't get any more top-60 picks. That's where all the great value in this draft is. Picks 20-60 are awesome in this draft then there is a big drop off. Unless we use these new picks to move up from 67 and maybe from 32 as well I see very little value gained in this year's draft.

I'm guessing we trade down again (from #8) and get another second round pick. I would also guess that we trade down from #32 and get more future picks.

FWIW, the draft chart values of our trade value future picks roughly the same as what the Rams \ Titans deal did, with future year's picks being worth ~24th pick in the round.

If we consider the 3rd this year and 4th next we gave them a wash, then they got a 2017 1st, 2018 2nd and the 100th overall this draft as "net compensation" for a drop down of 6 spots.

I like the back to back slots at the top of the 4th round. Invaluable and you know some team is going to come calling offering a 3rd in 2017. Or 3rd+4th to move back into the 2nd.

The Browns can play the value violin with this draft. Let's hope their evaluations don't suck.

I don't ever want to hear this franchise complain about their QB position again!

The trade might look ok now, but if the QB the Eagles take turns out to be just what this franchise needed in a QB...then the deal might not look so great.

If the Browns pick a QB of lesser talent and he's a bust, Browns lose.

Next years Philly #1 might be down around 25 (a 720 value by this years table) or so and the picks this year, Philly's #77 & #100 = 205 and 100.

All the Eagles had to give up this draft was valued at 305..that is one helluva deal for the Eagles, this year.

Just because there was a QB we could have taken doesn't mean taking him would of "solved" the position..

25? You honestly think Philly is a playoff team? I think they are more likely to be 4-12 than they are to make the playoffs.

I have to Agree with BpG we could actually end up with possibly 2 top 5 picks and probably no worse than 2 top 10 picks ... JMHO

bp...it's an unknown value at this time. The real value of this trade are unknown picks in 2017 and 2018.

Again, one helluva deal for the Eagles. I seriously doubt that any team would make such a deal for the Browns...we were very kind to the Eagles.

Think about this.

The Eagles and Rams trading with each other for the other teams QB. 1 year later, they are both trading up to 1 and 2 to draft a QB.

Wow! Umm ... I saw an article recently that suggested that we would give away the 2nd overall pick, and I was kind of worried that we just might ......

This gives me hope that these guys actually have some clue what they are doing.

I have to believe that Hue has major input into the QB decision, and that we would not have made this trade if he said that we had any chance of getting a guy he wanted at QB.

Look at the 2 big trades:

The Titans/Rams trade:
Titans receive:
1st round #15
2nd round #43
2nd round $45
2017 1st
2016 3rd

Rams receive:
1st round #1
4th #110
6th #177

The Browns/Eagles trade:

Eagles get #2 overall
2017 4th (Conditional?)

Browns receive:
1st #8 overall
3rd #77
4th #100
2017 1st
2018 2nd

I would say that these guys made out pretty good. Hopefully they trade down again and add still more picks.

32...honestly, it all depends on what these Harvard guys do with the picks they have.

But getting only a 3rd and 4th rounder this year in return for swapping our #2 for their #8..I'm not impressed.
