I was a big fan. He's probably been cut because they don't want a young QB for fans to yell out for if the franchise QB struggles.
That being said, they had no takers of even a 7th rounder for him or they wouldn't have cut him. No one is yelling out for Mettenberger over Mariota.

Orange might be the new black but Christian Hackenburg is the new Zach Mettenburger.

Some on here have been wanting Mettenberger for awhile. He's done nothing good as a pro and just cut because a team signed Matt Cassel (who was one of the worst QBs I've ever seen last year). He also had character issues in college (which caused him to drop in the drafting).
No thanks. I think the idea for those wanting him here was so that we could pick first in the draft...

Comparing a 6th rd QB pick that has already faltered in the NFL to a second rd QB pick that hasn't even taken a NFL snap? What makes you so confident that's true? First, and most importantly, that's my opinion. I own it and it's my perception of Hackenburgs ability, plain and simple. Secondly from my judgement of Hackenburgs college production he was much closer to a 6th round projection than a 2nd rounder. I've heard all the reasons for his consistent underperformance. I didn't see much in the way of adjustment in his game after his first year as a starter to indicate growth. In fact, I saw regression. On top of that I see a guy who is comfortable pointing fingers at others for his own short commings. Not as good look for a NFL starting calibre quarterback.

Probably expects Sackenberg to still be playing behind that PSU line.

Fair enough, it's your opinion...Oh BTW it's spelled "Hackenberg" and he was projected to go late 2nd to early 3rd rds by all the experts not the 6th rd as you claim. Unless that was just your opinion as well. My opinion is he should be commended for sticking it out at Penn State after the death penalty the school took for the Sandusky issue. He could of transferred but he didn't. Plus Franklin isn't even close to the level Bill O'Brein is. Hackenberg played all 38 games of his college career and the drop in production can be directly related to the surrounding staff and sub par players that signed on to Penn State after the death penalty just to get playing time for themselves. He has a legit reason to point his fingers directly at that.

You asked the question. I answered it. Based on your response I wonder, are you his agent, publicist, or what? The spelling of his name? That's relevant somehow?
You introduced the discussion of his draft grade. I just incorporated it into my response, which I stand by, because you thought it mattered enough to raise it in the first place. I think he was significantly overrated by the draft experts.
I'm uninterested in flipping this into a discussion on Kessler but at least he responded to adversity by finding a way to sustain his performance under very difficult circumstances. HackenbERG had one coaching change and was unable to adjust after multiple season under the new regime. Then decided to add it as one more excuse to his litany of excuses for being a mediocre prospect.
I get it, you like him. I don't. So what?

Report: Foles will be cut, become free agentPosted by Zac Jackson on July 27, 2016, 3:44 PM EDT The Rams will release quarterback Nick Foles, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday. The team had been seeking a trade partner for Foles but was unable to find one. Foles is not subject to the NFL’s waiver system and will become a free agent. The Rams had traded for Foles before the 2015 season, but he threw 10 interceptions in 11 games and completed just 56 percent of his passes. The Rams ended up making another trade, giving up a bunch of future picks to move up to No. 1 in the 2016 draft and select quarterback Jared Goff. Foles went to the Pro Bowl in 2013 with the Eagles. He had a 27-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio that season and completed a career-best 64 percent of his passes. There will probably eventually be suitors for Foles, who’s just 27, but with teams across the league reporting to camp he may have to wait for an injury or change of circumstances before garnering serious interest.

One must wonder if Phil's career is just at it's end... so soon? I liked the man and etc, but health has always been a concern for him.

He missed all of last year because of injury and then is out for the 2016 season before it even started. Being that fat and having bad knees is not a good combo.

I thought he was probably done after he was cut here (and then sniffed at/declined by the Steelers IIRC). I think his knees are just shot

2011 was the best draft classes in recent memory Newton Miller Green Watt Dalton Peterson Jones Smith. And the Browns take 2 major busts in Taylor and Little. Wilkerson was on the board when genius Heckert took Taylor at 21. He was a very lazy unmotivated DT. Handed a started job. Over rated as heck. Made one play then took 7 off. Repeat

j/c: I believe John Kuhn is available. Anyone interested? Could he be worse than Malcolm Johnson? Never mind. He just signed w/New Orleans.

yeah, Kuhn to NO. Malcolm Johnson was one of our worst performers last season ... and IIRC he's been injured so far

What are your thoughts on Bibbs to fullback full time? Our TE room is looking pretty crowded all of the sudden and Bibbs has more of a FB frame. I seem to remember Bibbs doing his best work in the flats, and perhaps some of his physicality as a runner after the catch can translate to blocking. Doubt he could do worse in that area than we had last year.

I haven't studied Bibbs' blocking, but I read he wasn't playing because his blocking was so poor. They liked his pass catching abilities, but not his blocking. That's saying something considering how bad at blocking our TEs were.
Hopefully, the guy they picked-up after Arizona cut him will be an improvement.

Who was the TE/HB type player from a few years ago who was a surprise cut .. and ended up hurting us when he played for Buffalo?
He was deemed a poor blocker and was released. Can't remember his name.

Just get rid of the FB. It's a dead position in the NFL these days. The game has gotten so specialized that either the FB can't block the bigger guys or is too slow to be a ball carrier.

A fullback who is an excellent blocker AND can catch the ball can be effective. If he can't do both he's almost useless IMO, except in short yardage situations. In that case I'm not sure it's worth a roster spot.

I agree, but I am pretty sure that Hue has said he is going to use a FB. He has said that, but traditionally his offense uses more of an H-Back type of guy. In the end we are probably discussing a position that will be inconsequential to the success of our team under our current head coach.

We'll have to see. After Johnson was hurt, Bibbs has lined-up there according to reports.
