LOL

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

CBS has nothing on this kid.

I know zero about him.

Seth Devalve

School: Princeton

Position: TE

Height: 6-2.5

Weight: 248

40: 4.71

Year: 4Sr

Bio: Three-year starter limited to two games last season. Career totals of 49 receptions, 527 yards and 4 TDs came during his junior season. Saw action at receiver early in his career.

Positive: Consistent hand catcher with terrific size/speed numbers. Extends his hands to make receptions away from his frame, displays solid eye/hand coordination and gets up high to win out for contested passes. Takes a big hit but holds onto the throw.

Negative: Displays marginal quickness and does not play to his 40 time.

Analysis: On paper Devalve possesses the measurables to play at the next level and flashes skill on occasion but is coming off an injury-plagued campaign . He needs to get his game back on track and quickly produce this summer to have any chance of making a practice squad.

CBS's instant analysis

Seth DeValve | WR, Princeton
Height: 6-4 Weight: 245
Big, tall, intelligent WR who should add to the receiving corps in Cleveland. Not on all NFL Draft boards.

Grade: C

Takes a big hit....of the type only behemoths from the likes of Lehigh, Dartmouth and Brown can deliver. Missed most of his senior year due to injuries. According to that review, he's going to really have to get it together to make the practice squad?

Dude has great hands and pretty good speed looks like. No problem with the pick. I like 2 TE sets in this offense, really can create mismatches especially with a Duke Johnson in the backfield creating his own mismatches.

Someone mentioned Cameron, and he does kind of remind me of the same kind of player. Great measurables, who needs to develop.

I can envision a play where he slips out into the flat and is there if the QB can't find anyone open on a deeper pass route and has to check down.
Very much a safe-devalve in that situation.

So, when guys say: "Excellent pick" or "this guy is a steal," why don't you question them?

Hard to take you seriously when you only jump on guys who say negative things while giving all the homers a pass.

I have no idea what this kid will wind up being.

The Browns do seem to want that TE who can attack down the middle, and who is more of a big receiver than in line blocker.

This kid has been injured a lot. That is a huge concern. He has played as an over-sized WR, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to make the transition to productive TE, or not. I really have zero feel for this kid. From what I have read, he most seem to consider him as nothing more than a camp body as a WR.

Here's an article on him from the Browns site. Sure it's slanted, but it gives some reasons why the pick was made. We'll see if they are right.

Also, evidently he had foot surgery, and he says that he is better now than before the surgery.

Browns coveted Princeton TE Seth DeValve for his mismatch potential
http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...32-5a6d0a172eb9

The jokes were there for the taking, and Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown cracked another one during a radio interview Monday.

“We were going to take him in the 3rd,” said Brown, a Harvard alum, “but the fact he went to Princeton, we slid him a round."

Even at pick No. 138 in the fourth round, Cleveland made Princeton tight end Seth DeValvethe highest-selected player in his school’s history. The off-the-radar wide receiver whom the Browns plan to use as a tight end went into great detail about one of the most historic rivalries in college sports shortly after his selection, but he couldn’t have been more thrilled than to hear from three notable alums from his rival -- Brown, vice president of player personnel Andrew Berry and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta -- when his phone rang Saturday.

“It has nothing to do with the guys. It has everything to do the name of the school,” DeValve said of the rivalry. “I can’t speak for any particular guys, but I will say whenever we step on the field with Harvard, whenever our basketball team steps on the court with Harvard and the football team is there supporting, we want to win every single time. That’s just the way the Ivy League is wired.”

That’s the way the Browns are wired, too, and it’s why they coveted DeValve, a 6-foot-2, 244-pound athletic pass-catcher who promises to give associate head coach - offense Pep Hamilton and coach Hue Jackson plenty to work with as they devise Cleveland’s offensive plans for 2016 and beyond.

DeValve, a Manchester, Connecticut, native, began his career as a wide receiver and is listed as such on his Princeton biography page, but he quickly took on tight end-like responsibilities within the Tigers’ spread offense. As DeValve described it, he was an “H-back adjuster” who was moved all across the field like a chess piece. On some plays he’d line up wide, on some he’d be in the slot and some he’d have his hand in the dirt like a traditional tight end.

“I was doing tight end in various amounts depending on the year,” DeValve said. “I was always used as a hybrid tight end/wide receiver so to say that I’m making a transition from wide receiver to tight end isn’t extremely accurate.”

DeValve’s sophomore season was his most productive, as he caught 49 passes for 527 yards and four touchdowns. In his first two games as a junior, DeValve caught 19 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown before he was pulled from the field to have multiple foot surgeries. He missed four games in his senior season and finished with 33 catches for 337 yards and a touchdown.

The surgeries were not a byproduct of an injury, but rather a condition DeValve had from birth, he said. It’s not a concern for him or the Browns as he prepares himself for next week’s rookie minicamp.

“The deal with corrective surgery, unlike orthopedic surgery, is when the surgery is done and you’ve recovered, you’re better than you were previously,”
DeValve said. “My feet are better than they’ve been in two years, and I’ll be ready to go.”

DeValve joins a tight end room that is led by Gary Barnidge and includes young players such as Randall Telfer and E.J. Bibbs. His diverse skill set promises to fit in nicely, giving Cleveland some multiple options at tight end alongside Barnidge.

“Willing blocker, able to detach and match up one on one as a receiver and has the athleticism you would want in a player at that position in the league,” Brown said Monday. “When you look at all those things, his work ethic, his toughness, he was a guy we really felt like would be a nice tool for Pep and Hue to have on offense and can present some mismatches.”

If Hue has confidence in the guy, I know he'll get him involved and believes in his ability. At the end of the day, as long as he believes in the player, he'll give him opportunities to shine.

Your forgetting Telfer (who played with Kessler) ... Probably our only true inline TE.
Barnidge is our starting TE and is a combination of both TE types
Devalve is a flex TE ... competition? Perhaps Bibbs, but we know that he is not "there guy" and that can sometimes tip the scale for their guy. I think that competition wise ... Devalve has a pretty clear path to making our final 53.

I don't like or understand the DeValve pick ... however, he cannot be worse that Housler was last season

JC...How come when we picked him I saw a listing of him as 6'6 245 lbs...and now I'm seeing him listed as 6'2...that's odd...short for a TE...I'm thinking perhaps H-back role as perhaps other stated

Watching Bengals game I know they utilized one of their TEs as an hback role last year and he really excelled...forget his name as I only know Eifert and Kroft but this was some other guy...

I believe this kid was a reach....then again I was wrong about Cameron when we drafted him...however I think once again this kid probably won't be able to cut it in this league...just a guess...

However I can see where we tried...I always feel the FB/Hback role...if you can create a weapon there (Larry Centers type) then you do it...make defenses account for him...as he often gets overlooked...The only player I think teams scheme for is probably Barnidge...Coleman won't be schemed for until he shows up in this league...We really have nothing else at WR or TE to scare anyone

I've seen him listed on most sites including Princton's at 6'4" 245, only the Browns' site has him at 6'2", so I wouldn't doubt a typo. If you Google Seth Devalve's height it comes up at 6'3". So that's bizarre. If his hands are as good as advertised, he's a definite mismatch no matter whether he's 6'2", 6'3" or 6'4".
