I do swear quite a bit. Though, I am trying to clean it up. The problem started when I was in college. I worked with a big group of rough guys and they all swore OFTEN. I picked it up from working with them for 3, almost 4, years. And old habits are hard to break. But I'm getting there, kinda.

People swear all the time where I work and I always find myself thinking, "Do they realize how unprofesional that is??"

LOL.. it is hard to turn it on and off.. I work in a very professional engineering office where the swearing is kept to a minimum.. then sometimes I go out onto job sites where it is every other word... and if I'm not careful I find myself getting caught up in it...

Well, I've cooled it down a bit due to my boss. She's a preacher's kid, and while not completely religious, she doesn't cuss, so it's influencing me.

Yes,but I've been on such job sites when engineers show up.
Per capita, there is far more swearing going on when they show up,than at any other time. So please don't get the impression that's it's normal procedure on these job sites.

I wasn't talking about swearing AT the engineers.. And I have done my time as a superintendent in the field full time too.. so I'm pretty well versed in what goes on when the engineers are and are not on site...

See,I always LIKED when the engineers came on the job! I ran the "concrete division" but we went from one job to the next. We had two crews and there might be up to five or six projects going at the same time. They would sub out the "big pours" and we did more detailed and inticate type of work. Custom stamped and died concrete, acid stains and layout of footers, elevatons and such. So I wasn't the "superintendant in charge" of the project. I took my orders from the superintendant and worked "with them" in many cases on the layout end of things as it pertains to elevations and location. I got a kick out of how much the supers got frustrated, anxious and sometimes it appeared on the verge of becoming physicaly ill by the very mention of the engineers coming to the job. From a personal standpoint,it gave me an oppertunity to ask these engineers questions and further understand things that the company I worked for simply didn't provide us. You know, the "where's and why's" of things. So I got a lot of usefull information from it and got to watch the supers squirm and cuss a lot. It made for a very informative and entertaining day from my standpoint!

I was the superintendent in charge.. I'd have told you that you're behind, stop asking questions that don't concern you and pour the damn concrete.

They tried that. But since they didn't WANT my job, they didn't press the issue to far. I usually just smiled at them when they tried such tactics. Problem being,it's not very logical to fire the lead guy in the concrete department for trying to further educate himself in his profession. Especially when he's the only one in that department who's on time, dependable, professional about his job and quality orientated. Sure they can find somebody else. But how many bodies and how much time will it take to find a person with those same qualities in the concrete business?
Wouldn't be prudent.

I do know of a few people who are like that, I work with them day after day, the ones who when reading a note pick out spelling mistakes & grammer mistakes, but fail to understand or remember the meaning of the note, so ya not only have to listen to them once but ya havve to follow up becuase they dont remember to turn in thier insurace info on time, thier to busy correcting others peoples spelling to do ther own work, and if there are 3-4 in my office in little old Wauseon, I'm sure theres plenty more around Ohio..
Those are the type of people who end up behind me OFTEN as I pull my own finger.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

I do my best not to swear while I'm having conversations in the cab. Some of the drunken conversations that go on in my cab it seems every other word out of the mouths of the fares are swearing but I hold my own.
About the only time I swear at work is when I have to toss someone out, and then it's GET THE F*** OUT OF MY CAB A**H****and I may have to repeat it several times.. That has happened only three times in the last 14 months.

cause I don't think you can put 8 inta 4 or put 9 inta 3

That is simple.
Just double the vowels unless they are at the end of the word...then hardly say them.

Please forgive me, but I haven't been around for a couple of days on here and I am just now catching up with some of my favorite threads that were left behind the last time I was logged on here to Al Gore's internet......anyway.... Quote:
Someone told me once to stop saying I should do something and say could instead and I might out the subject I felt I should do was not all that important to me.
Annie, I want you to please read this sentence out loud if you come back to this thread and please break it down for me, as it makes absolutely zero sense.
None.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
I can't even tell what you were TRYING to say here....
In this format, we have no facial expressions, no body language, no voice tones....we can only go on the written word. When that is not able to be discerned, then we have problems, because there are misunderstandings.
But that's not even the case here. In this case, you started this inane thread with these inane analogies due to the fact that I made a post containing my opinion that an 18 year old who is about to graduate from high school should be able to spell the simple word "congratulations."
Once again, you jump my ass for stating my opinion, and as has been very eloquently pointed out to you and others, it's so funny that you jump on other people for doing the same exact thing that you are doing.
Yet you don't recognize it.
That is freaking hilarious.
And you wonder why I don't waste my time trying to discuss things with you in PMs. It's a lost cause....
Read what is there, not what is between the lines for your agenda. No need or place to be a martyr here....

I believe you are the one with the comprehension problem . I have told you repeatedly I'm very aware of what I'm doing.
As for PM's you're the one who barraged me with PM's after I told you there was no point in discussing it.
I will not stand by and watch if I think someone is being bullied. As I've said before I'll continue to comment if I see the need. Just as you are free to post as you wish so am I. That's pretty easy to comprehend.
