You are wise.

Besides, I already know the answer - 2 - right? Is it 2?

I have a question for the brains of the board.

We experience time. We do not experience the fact that we are moving at breakneck speed through the universe, because out planet, solar system, and galaxy are all also moving through the universe at incredible speeds.

So, my question is this: If the planet, solar system, and galaxy were to suddenly (well, not "suddenly", as we'd all be crushed and destroyed, but you get the idea) stop this speedy movement through the universe, would time also stop? (or slow)

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

IIRC we actually have been increasing speed.

Yeah, I get that.

However, let's use that side of the equation then ..... as the universe speeds up, does time also speed up? Is there a correlation?

Since the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time goes, then if you stopped, I guess you'd go faster. smirk

Geuss I missed that point.

If that is the case, then I would think that it would have already happened, but then I'm no brain.

No, but I can almost guarantee it would happen just as the Browns were kicking the winning FG for a Super Bowl. It would sail just wide left.

So, you're suggesting the Earth simply falls away from the Sun's orbit and out of the galaxy too. Meaning, we'd be floating in empty space with no gravity, other than our own, and not accelerating. That means most of our energy would be going towards time, not acceleration. So time would speed up, not slow down or stop for us. However, I don't think we wouldn't notice any change. To us, we'd probably not notice anything different, outside of being thrown away from the sun and not having the necessary sunlight.

For a while I counted exoplanets up to 2,000, and then it went to 3,000

Those exoplanets will spark a renaissance. In a blink of the eye, we stopped looking up and became introverted. Phone is down, but stars are up

Outside of hell freezing over and the Browns potentially winning the Super Bowl.

I have just noticed how much Mars stuff, Ancient Aliens, AOL spot articles, and such are featuring Mars. Lots of them. Always dreamed about us landing there as a young sci-fi junky, but the planet seems to be really in the cultural mainstream or trending up relatively recently. Not just planet features or survey info, but "The Martian" movie, and especially terraforming, raw materials, and a number of simiar or offshoot things.

I remember Bradbury's quote from "The Martian Chronicles" at the front: "It is good to renew Man's wonder. Space travel has again made children of us all." True still. Seems we are getting prepped for something new.

The manned space exploration initiative took a bit of a hit this week.

Retired astronaut Scott Kelly (52-years-old) reports still feeling ill affects from his 340 day mission on the International Space Station that ended ~ 2 ½ months ago. And he really felt bad when he first returned to earth. (but he didn’t publicly admit it)

A mission to Mars would be twice that long one-way.

Can you imagine an astronaut getting sick halfway to Mars with another year to go and no quick return even remotely possible?

It would be torture. The mission would fail.

Guess we ought to step up research on that warp drive then.

Just put them in cryo and let HAL wake them when they get to there.
