It's heavy, but it balances well..... and I was seated with a beer at my side. Usually when I'm out birding I use a monopod with a gimbal head. If I'm at an eagles nest or somewhere I don't have to walk a long way I'll use the tripod.

Still debating it. Probably will have had too much to drink to think about driving somewhere.

I did Toledo's the one year on the 4th, but cramming everyone on the waterfront is ridiculous.

Here's a shot from BGSU....that's Doyt Perry Stadium in the background. It's just a great place to watch fireworks. Easy in, easy out....a very short walk to the viewing area, no problem making two trips to get everything there. And most importantly, they put on a great display. I tried to include the spectators vs. cropping down to just the fireworks.

Your pictures show a lot of the beauty in OK. I've been there a few times when I was younger, and all I recall is flat, barren land and red dirt. There were a lot of pretty women and good bars, so we didn't get out of the city much though.

I live on the eastern side, we have brown dirt and lots of trees and water. I lived in Okc for 25 years and it's very much like you described. I don't miss that red dirt and wind at all.

I found a bird! Eureka! I am the worst birder on the planet. Larger So in the absence of birds, lets go hunt some deer. I like deer, they are big and easy to see. Found a new deer, she seemed curious about me too and we played tag in the trees. LargerHaving successfully lost me, I found another one, poor thing has ticks all over her eye. Larger She kept an eye on me and we both had to crouch down to see each other under the branch. Larger Then she decided I didn't pose much of a threat and went back to lunch. Larger

Edmund to be exact. By brother and a bunch of friends moved there right out of high school and we went to visit a few times. We were actually out there when the Buckeyes beat the Sooners in the snake pit in the early 80's.

Edmond borders the north east side of Okc. The early 80's was a rough patch for people moving to Oklahoma when the banking crisis started at Penn Square Bank and the economy went straight into the toilet as the oil loans all dried up.

I remember that. There were whole subdivisions of vacant new homes and a lot of empty strip malls. My brother and his friends were able to rent a practical mansion on the cheap. They all found jobs, though...and 2 of them still live there. My brother married an Okie girl and started his family there. The reason the whole group (there were about 8-10 of them) went out there was that a couple of their friends had high paying jobs on oil rigs, and those jobs were gone by the time they moved.

Thank you sir. Your tip, cranking the ISO and using the flash was most helpful. In looking at the various shots it caused my white balance to be much more accurate and provided that little front fill. Larger

Went to the wildlife refuge yesterday, instead of a bird I found this. It's called a swamp rose mallow.
