Been some good stuff in many of these articles especially for OTA's and mini's. For OL, until there is actual contact, you arent missing much by not actually participating. It takes real reps to get the OL there.

I think Coleman catches up and then takes control of RT very quickly but either way its great to have some good compeittion over there and hopefully not just the lesser of evils position.

Hal Hunter was a mixture of disbelief and comic relief when asked about how the Browns prepared Erving as a rookie. Yea it was bad lol.

With Shelton Vers we talked about it last year, guy has a ton of natural talent but he had bad hands, he was a bit overweight and he really didnt understand the position. Seeing him losing weight, working on his hand usuage and really working to master the position is great news and what he needed. I think the negativity aroudn the team is rough on any rookie but being taken out in 3rd and inches really seemed to tick him off last year lol.

On Pryor. He just needs to master something. Dont have him trying to learn every route. Have him master the deep post, middle drag and quick slant. Its really all that Gordon and Moss ever ran and I think that is pretty much all that he will ever be able to do.

One thing that hasnt been mentioned is the praise for Marlon moore. He got his chance last year and was making a few plays at the end of the year and i have heard glowing remarks from both Al and Hue regarding Moore's contribution not as a special teamer but as a receiver. kid has worked his ass off and i am pleased to hear it.

The Hue Jackson effect, the Show Me season and the revamped offensive line: Cleveland Browns observations

Cleveland Browns 2016

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns wrapped up their offseason program last week. Between rookie minicamp, veteran minicamps and OTAs, the program included, by my math, a total of 17 practices -- one of the nine OTA practices was cancelled so the players could attend the team's charity golf outing. Here are 17 offseason program observations.

1. The Hue Jackson effect is real. It seemed as though every player that spoke about their new head coach spoke glowingly of the energy and excitement Jackson has brought along with him to his new job.

2. This is the easy part for Jackson's program. The roster is young and the returning players, while not saying it outright, seemed thrilled to be gone of the Mike Pettine-Jim O'Neil pairing. Selling a new approach shouldn't be too difficult, especially coming from a man as respected as Jackson.

3. The hard part for Jackson and his staff comes when they have to start making decisions. Who starts at quarterback? Who gets reps and where? Who gets cut? Buying in is easy when you have the role you want.

4. It gets even harder when the games start. A losing record can suck the energy and enthusiasm out of a locker room quickly.

5. That being said, none of it matters as long as the people who hired Jackson hold firm in their support of him and the program. Without saying that 2016 is a wash, they need to understand that 2016 is a wash and put little weight in the results on the field. The Browns could surprise some folks and win more than expected. Or they could end up being who we thought they were. It really shouldn't matter.

6. Speaking of which, it sure feels like this coaching staff is willing to let this be a "show us" year at a number of positions. Think you can play wide receiver, Terrelle Pryor? Show us. Think you can start at safety in this league? Show us, Ibraheim Campbell and Jordan Poyer. You can go through any number of positions and get this vibe. Think you belong? 2016 is your opportunity, because the Browns have the draft picks and the money to replace almost anyone.

7. Pryor certainly had moments in camp where he looked like he could play receiver. Proceed with caution, though. Pryor is a physical freak who is going to look good in shorts. There's a difference, though, when you have to run routes, get off jams and make difficult catches in real games.

8. Want a random name at receiver that managed to stand out? Marlon Moore. He's more likely to make the roster as a special teams guy, but Jackson even specifically mentioned him last week as camp wound down.

"Obviously, Marlon Moore's making plays all over the place," Jackson said.

Obviously.

Marlon Moore's Monday night touchdown a testament to his hard work

Marlon Moore's Monday night touchdown a testament to his hard work

Travis Benjamin predicted Moore might find the endzone on Monday night.

9. Corey Coleman, by the way, was built to thrive in a Hue Jackson offense. Get him the ball, get bodies in front of him and let him run. I don't know how much fun we're going to have watching this team this season, but we're going to have fun watching him grow.

10. I don't have much to add about padded practices. I just know that it will be nice to see a training camp that looks like a training camp this offseason. There were times the last two years where I'm not even sure anyone broke a sweat.
Get Flash Player
Will Robert Griffin III be the Browns starting quarterback? Hue Jackson hasn't named a starting quarterback yet, but is it inevitable that Robert Griffin III gets the job?

11. If you want to hear a couple of guys drooling over Joe Thomas, check out The Ringer's NFL Show podcast in which Robert Mays and Kevin Clark rank offensive linemen. The point is brought up that not only is Thomas one of the best tackles (if not the best tackle) in the league, but his cap hit this season is $9.5 million (according to Spotrac). Some assumed analytics would say to trade Thomas now. It's easy to imagine, though, that they'd lean towards keeping a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer still playing at a high level at such a reasonable price.

12. The rest of the line is, as we know, not as stable. A healthy Joel Bitonio is a huge boost. John Greco is solid. It's the man in the middle -- currently Cameron Erving -- and the man on the far right -- currently Alvin Bailey, though that's certainly up for grabs -- that will determine the line's success.

13. Go watch some Bengals games from last season and watch the line. The words mobility and athleticism will stick in your mind. Jackson will ask his linemen to split out wide in front of receivers at times among other things. There will be a lot going on along the line.

14. Remember that part about how selling the team on a new approach is relatively easy now? The same goes for Danny Shelton and his weight loss. It's great that Shelton has committed to dropping to 335 pounds this season and that he's at that goal already. That's impressive and I don't want to downplay how difficult that had to have been. Here's the really hard part, though: keeping it off. Defensive line coach Robert Nunn said it best on Thursday: "Time will tell."

Browns ask Danny Shelton to keep battling the bulge

Browns ask Danny Shelton to keep battling the bulge

The Browns have pulled Danny Shelton aside and urged to keep off the 30 pounds he lost over the off-season. That and other minicamp observations.

15. Let's take some time to appreciate defensive end Desmond Bryant. In his three years with the Browns, he's been a solid presence along the line, registering 14.5 sacks in 41 games. He'll be counted on heavily this year to provide a similar level of production and leadership as the front seven gets younger.

16. Outside linebackers coach Ryan Slowik didn't mention Armonty Bryant when he was asked to run through his group on Thursday. Nunn did.

"We've got to be able to count on Armonty to get to the quarterback," Nunn said.

Is Bryant back to fulltime defensive lineman this season? He'll have to get on the field first. He's suspended for the first four games of 2016.

17. Take everything you see and hear with a grain of salt, by the way, including everything you just read. It's easy to feel good about things in April, May and June.

I liked it up until the Armonty Bryant reference, then I got bitter lol. No more moron, immature kids please. Football first, not drug and party first!

Moore comments interesting, will Moore finally get reps at WR and playing time on something other than special teams??

Couple of things to remember bout these early camps and OTAs .....

#1: There is zero pressure on the QBs. Receivers are not being bumped off the line. We are not rushing the passer for real. Further, the defensive players are young, younger, and youngest, and inexperienced in this offense. This is a situation made to order for a guy like Josh McCown. If he did not shine, there would be a major problem with him.

Marlon Moore has been a core special teams player. He has not accomplished much of anything on the field as a receiver. He has played 6 seasons, with 3 teams, and has 26 career catches. He is a guy with decent hands, but with little of the quickness or speed that teams want at WR. He got a mention from the coach, which is nice, but I have to wonder if he will even make the team this year. We have Pryor, who is another limited experience guy, but with far better physical ability ..... 4 rookies ..... and guys like Hawkins and Gabriel, who have at least produced on the field. I just have trouble seeing a guy like Moore making the team, even as a special teams player.

Agreed. We've seen many coaches praise guys just to get them soon after. Not unusual for any team, much less the Cleveland Browns.

But sometimes guys that don't impress me seem to make the team. I wonder if Chris Tabor is given a set number of players that he can choose to be on the team, no questions asked.

Although, I also wonder why the heck Chris Tabor is still on this coaching staff. I think his nickname should be "Teflon Tabor" cause nothing sticks to him

All depends on the youngsters making it on Special Teams I am very curious on what Trey Caldwell brings to the table. One or more of the WRs will have to step it up as well. We do have some young speed on this team now!

My gut says that being a special teams start isn't going to be enough for a guy like Moore to make the team. Tabor never seems to have a problem finding a ST Ace. I just seriously doubt he'd have a hard time finding one in this crop of 1 and 2 year players.

Woo Hoo Rookies report today so let training camp begin. I know I am one of those weird people that love camp but yes it is the time of year where hope and enthusiasm is at its highest. Dreams come true for some, while others will have them crushed through competition and hopefully not injury.

Will be interesting to see what Vets show up early as well. Good luck campers and let those reports flow, love hearing fist hand reports over media parroting.

the start of camp is a good time of the year. I love football season (even though we generally have been awful ... and will be again this year).

to me, nothing is better than a great weekend of football. Thursday nights with a college and pro game, Friday nights with high school, a full day of Saturday, a full day of Sunday, and Monday night to cap it off. Makes for a ton to look forward to

I agree. The season tickets came last week. They are all packed away in their travel envelopes. Reservations for rooms and cars are booked through the Jets game.

I am looking forward to rolling in to Cleveland on Saturday afternoons, watch some college fooball and eating some wings on Saturday night, then watching the Browns on Sunday capped with a nice victory meal at one of the downtown restaurants.

Might even be able to catch some Indians October baseball!

Bring it on.

And the Tribe. I can't remember a season when I've been less enthused. Even with the new, "top prospect" coach, influx of potential "talent" and the reclamation QB, I'm feeling pretty ambivalent about the team and the season. It will take some exceptional play in the pre-season games to restore my interest, I think. I suppose the fact that a 5-6 win season will be considered a vast improvement has a lot to do with it. And there is no guarantee that will happen. Optimistically looking forward to ten or eleven losses is depressing.

I like Barnidge, but I don't expect the ball to bounce his way every time this year.

I'm curious how DeValve will transition to the NFL.

Browns place 4 players on PUP/NFI lists

The Cleveland Browns have placed DB Joe Haden (ankle) and TE Seth DeValve(hamstring) on active/physically unable to perform (PUP) and OL Conor Boffeli (knee/ankle) and WR Josh Gordon (quad) on active/non-football injury (NFI).
Players on active PUP or NFI can't take part in on-field activities until they pass their physical. They are limited to strength and conditioning, rehab and meetings.
Gordon, who was reinstated by the NFL on Monday, injured his quadriceps while working out on his own this summer. He's expected to be out for at least a couple of weeks while he recovers.
Gordon was in Berea on Tuesday and met with Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown, coach Hue Jackson and other members of the organization.
Haden continues to recover from an ankle injury he sustained in March and is working toward being ready for the 2016 season.

Actually, I am. I have had a heel problem since September. I've gained 18 lbs. It's at about 85% now. I walked 5 miles on Saturday and 7 on Sunday...the last 2 off.

That said, ok....I have a victory meal every Sunday when I am up there. The Browns winning has nothing to do with what I deserve and desire....right?

I'm not saying this means he'll be elite this year or anything like that, so, with that said - I watched the video of players arriving for camp on the OW and I must say, that Justin Gilbert sure looked happy and ready to get to work entering the building there.

Exactly what I expected them to say.. No real surprises other than they are in Pads as of Sunday. Hue made that very clear. He also made it clear everyone has to earn their job (with the possible exception of JT)

All in all, lots of talk of Josh Gordon,,,, he's not going to get a break..He'll have to put up or shut up. At least that's my feeling from what they all said.

It's worth a listen....

RGIII is a man who's clearly into his faith and etc. I think RGIII could potentially help JG try to stay on the straight and narrow. Plus, they have the "Baylor" connection and etc etc. It's a good idea IMO.
