Philly Police Union 'Insulted' at Hillary's Lineup of DNC Speakers

By Jason Devaney | Thursday, 21 Jul 2016 02:16 PM

A police union president in Philadelphia said his members are "insulted" over Hillary Clinton's decision to have relatives of people killed by police speak at the convention next week and not the relatives of police officers killed in the line of duty.

According to the Washington Times, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby called the decision "sad."

"The Fraternal Order of Police is insulted and will not soon forget that the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton are excluding the widows and other family members of police officers killed in the line of duty who were victims of explicit and not implied racism," McNesby said.

"[It is] sad that to win an election Mrs. Clinton must pander to the interests of people who do not know all the facts, while the men and women they seek to destroy are outside protecting the political institutions of this country. Mrs. Clinton, you should be ashamed of yourself, if that is possible."

Next week's Democratic National Convention will include speakers who have lost loved ones in police-involved shootings, including the mothers of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

FOP Vice President Roosevelt Poplar told Philly.com the list of speakers is "a slap in the face to our men and women and their families, who were victimized by the same type of violence, especially in the past weeks when we've had eight officers assassinated."

Did the RNC have the family's of victims by police brutality come on stage?

You miss the point. They didn't have all these mothers on who are going to talk about how swell their kid really was...even if that isn't the case.

And the RNC had the law up there like they do nothing wrong.

Even if that isn't the case.

I didn't miss the point. The point is easy to counter.

Don't complain about no sucking up to cops if you're not gonna suck up to the victims of police brutality.

What's the standard? That's all I ever asked.

You still miss the point. It's not the Republicans who are complaining. Leave them out of it. This is the local police union that is complaining.

The local community was complaining about the lack of coverage in the RNC about police brutality.

It was virtually non existent.

I know the point. The point is trash and easy to counter every single time.

What's the standard?

Wikileaks dump appears to show DNC favored Clinton campaign

A new trove of leaked emails seem to show that top officials at the Democratic National Committee openly mocked and criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primary race against Hillary Clinton -- a startling revelation that raises questions about the Democratic Party’s impartiality and an issue that could play out poorly at the party’s convention this week in Philadelphia.

WikiLeaks posted close to 20,000 emails and 8,000 attachments Friday sent or received from top Democratic officials that seem to suggest the committee’s chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other higher ups tried to tip the scales in Clinton’s favor. WikiLeaks dubbed the document dump the “Hillary Leaks series.”

Sanders has repeatedly claimed that he thought the system was “rigged” during the primaries.

Republican candidate Donald Trump weighed in Saturday morning, tweeting: “Leaked e-mails of DNC show plans to destroy Bernie Sanders. Mock his heritage and much more. On-line from Wikileakes (sic), really vicious. RIGGED.”

The leaks, from January 2015 to May 2016, purportedly came the from accounts of seven DNC officials and feature conversations by staffers debating everything from how to deal with media requests to syncing the party’s message with interest groups in Washington.

In one email, DNC staffers were looking for ways to blunt Sanders’ popularity with Democrats. In a May 5 email, a DNC employee asked a colleague to collect information on his religious beliefs – claiming it might sway voters in West Virginia and Kentucky. In that particular email, Sanders name was not mentioned but he was the only other candidate in the race at that time against Clinton.

DNC chief financial officer Brad Marshall wrote, “This would make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”

Stephen Hayes, a columnist at the Weekly Standard, told “Special Report” on Fox News that the emails show a clear pattern of Wasserman Schultz and the DNC “thumbing the scales’ in favor of Clinton and scheming for ways to “thwart” Sanders.

A May 15, 2016 email, shows the DNC was in close contact with news websites on articles related to the Democratic Party, Sanders and Clinton.

A Real Clear Politics article claimed that Sanders supporters are causing a lack of unity at the Democratic National Convention. Wasserman Schultz took issue with the headline and told another Democratic official the “headline needs to be changed.”

Does this surprise anyone? The DNC, and their insider super-delegates, decided that she would be the nominee well before the Democrat's Primary even started.

So after a lot of soul searching and really not wanting Trump to become president I almost had myself talked into pinching my nose, holding my breath and voting for HER... Now wikileaks has proved that the DNC rigged the election and I just won't do it. It's up to the rest of America at this point.

IF (and that's a big IF) I even go out to vote in November it will be third party, period. I will only vote third party if one has a remote chance of winning, else I'll stay home. I simply can't vote for either major candidate this time, I just can't.

I think most of us that were paying attention knew that the DNC was leaning away from Sanders and towards Clinton.

Oddly, they succeeded in stopping the candidate they didn't want, but the republicans couldn't stop Trump.

I'm not really sure what that means, but it's a fact

I actually agree with you Vers. Reading this article just kind of makes me sick to my stomach, and makes me scared for our nation and a little depressed.

We REALLY need to break this two party system

Political scientists will vigorously argue against that, but I agree w/you 100 percent.

This is a volatile time period in our country's history and to think that one of these two buffoons is going to be tasked w/leading us through it.........is frightening.

The Republicans one is over. I don't care whether they did or didn't have mothers of lost children speak, I didn't see either.

The thing is, the Democrats should have, well at least it would have been better if they'd have both mothers of lost law enforcenment officers, as well as mothers of lost folks shot by law enforcement.
But that's not why I was going to post.

I was going to post because it looks too much like (CITIZEN KANE)

on all the signs, and I cant get that out of my head.

I dont' even know what Citizen Kane was, I think some show or book from the 1940's

Saw this on the news this morning. I gotta wonder, can this cause enough of a hubbub that Hillary gets unseated as the Nominee?

What a mess...

Mission Accomplished at DNC, Clinton Hires Wasserman Schultz for Top Post

Though many progressives immediately responded by saying her ouster would not be enough to undo the damage her leadership has done, Democratic National Committee Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced her resignation on Sunday afternoon, saying she would relinquish her post immediately following the party's national convention which begins Monday.

Her announcement comes just two days after a batch of leaked internal DNC emails showed evidence that party officials during the primary season had attempted to tip the scales in favor of Hillary Clinton against the insurgent campaign of Bernie Sanders. The emails appear to show top officials contemplating how they can undermine Sanders by pushing stories about his Jewish faith and questioning his ability to keep his campaign organized.

As journalist and radio host Sonali Kolhatkar tweeted:

Following Sunday's news, however, Clinton responded with a statement thanking her "longtime friend" for her service to the party and, seemingly without irony, announced that Wasserman Schultz would now serve as her campaign’s honorary chair.

"There's simply no one better at taking the fight to the Republicans than Debbie," Clinton said, "which is why I am glad that she has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign's 50-state program to gain ground and elect Democrats in every part of the country, and will continue to serve as a surrogate for my campaign nationally, in Florida, and in other key states."

Throughout the campaign, Sanders and his top aides had expressed displeasure with "prejudice" exhibited by Wasserman Schultz in both deed and rhetoric. Since Spring, the campaign and many of its supporters had been calling for her resignation.

Not in time for it to matter very much, but those desires came true on Sunday.

"I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America’s future. I look forward to serving as a surrogate for her campaign in Florida and across the country to ensure her victory," Wasserman Schultz said in her statement. "Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention."

As early as this morning, citing the leaked DNC emails, Sanders said it was past time for the chairperson to go. His reasoning, however, appeared to contradict Clinton's response when he said his disappointment with Wasserman Schultz was not just because of the "prejudice" that she and her staff showed throughout the campaign, but the signal she sends to potential voters about where the country should be headed. "I think we need new leadership of the Democratic Party," Sanders explained, "that is going to open up that party to working people and to young people—to have that kind of vitality we need to not only win the presidency, but also gain control of the Senate and the House as well."

Meanwhile, the party's communications director announced that longtime political operative and pundit Donna Brazile, currently the DNC’s vice chair, will take over as interim chair through the election.

Wait until tonight. There better be a roll call vote and it better not be a voice vote or all hell will break lose.

This page reads like it's going to be what we expected the RNC to be...

IF (and that's a big IF) I even go out to vote in November it will be third party, period. I will only vote third party if one has a remote chance of winning, else I'll stay home. I simply can't vote for either major candidate this time, I just can't.

I'm with you man. It seems like both campaigns are based solely on telling voters, "You have to vote for me, or else that OTHER person will win!"

I'm hoping more and more people come around to your thinking. At some point, hopefully Gary Johnson will get enough support that people who will vote Trump just so Hillary won't win will see that they are wasting their vote by staying with Trump. And vice-versa with those plugging their nose with Hillary.

If a third party would actually win, it would hopefully be a huge wake-up call to both parties. Maybe we could see some actual change to this country instead of politics as usual.

Gary's poll numbers are rising. All he needs is a chance on that debate stage.

Yeah, he needs something like 2 or 3 % more in the polls to get into the debates. If he can kill it there, he could have a chance.

NEWS BRIEF Debbie Wasserman Schultz has resigned as the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) following a leak of thousands of emails that appeared to show committee staffers favoring Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders for the party’s presidential primary contest.

Saw this on the news this morning. I gotta wonder, can this cause enough of a hubbub that Hillary gets unseated as the Nominee?

What a mess...

The idea that Hillary would somehow be unseated as the nominee is a pipe dream at best.

I do think that there will be an attempt (which will also fail .... but it will be a strong attempt) to replace Kaine as the VP nominee. I think that it will also fail, but I see the odds of a serious attempt being made to be quite high.

On a personal note ..... I will be oh so sad, knowing that I will not be able to hear the melodic tones of Debbie Wasserman-Shultz's voice as frequently.
Yep, definitely going to miss that screeching, nasally, voice that is the vocal equivalent of fingernails on the chalkboard.

I know the point. The point is trash and easy to counter every single time.

What's the standard?

Furthering the divide bro.. that's what both sides care about, furthering the divide... the RNC highlights police officers and excludes black victims, the DNC highlights black victims and excludes the police victims...

And on the night when Obama hosted a town hall that included folks representing ALL groups, the town hall got crushed in the ratings by Big Brother..

I don't really know what to think about the state of humanity right now..

The wife is in Philly yesterday and today, visiting a sick relative.
She said the "Feel the Bern" folks are everywhere!

I asked her to pick me up a cheese steak and a dime bag of fetal parts from a booth at the convention.
