Crazy, the USA hasn't done anything but come in 4th or worse everytime I watch. Early this morning I decided to root for Australia, Canada, ... maybe Sweden finland Norway, and oh New Zealand because they are just next to Australia.
Had no Idea who'd I see playing in rugby, it's New Zealand over USA. maybe USA will only come away with 1 gold medal this entire Olympics.
I think the USA rarely does well in sports contests held in South America.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
I look forward to the running (I believe in a few days)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
I have watched all kinds of events so far. If you flip around to different channels you see different things. Nbc primetime is kind of obsessed with swimming and gymnastics.
I love how Bravo is only playing tennis. It's not even like they've swithed their demographics.
Caitlyn Jenner was on Bill Simmons's show last week talking about the decathlon and she made me really excited to watch that. But that doesn't even start till the 17th. But track is usually some of the best competitions.

On DirecTV they have a channel where you can see what is being played on all the different channels.
This rugby is kind of brutal. I am watching the women put the beatdown on each other. No pads like those sissy nfl men.
I have been to many rugby games and even saw the All Blacks play England at Twickenham Stadium when Jonah Lomu was playing. I have also often defended American Football to English friends who mocked or made fun of it due to all the padding.
Yes, it is brutal but, there is a fundamental difference between rugby and American football: They pass the ball backwards. Very rarely does a person get blindsided in open field. However, in American football by throwing the ball forwards, or the vulnerable punt returner can be destroyed. Hits like that are very rare in rugby. I also think that the padding/helmets etc. also invites a more violent hit as they may feel more invincible.
I thought the Olympics was supposed to be more than just, volleyball, swimming and ... bicycles?
It's as if other events have not started yet (or something).
Y'all need to watch more or stream it... I've seen hand ball, weight lifting, canoeing, rugby, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, diving, table tennis, volleyball, judo, fencing, shooting, archery... Maybe a few others

I think they forgot to add that they are too cheap to have cable, which I can relate. But I'm content with just watching the over the air channel for now. At least until things get serious, then I'll stream the app.
I'm amazed that you have the very best swimmers in the world.. and in a couple races in a row they can say there is one person who is going to win this race.. They did it with Peatty, then Ledecky.. just seems bizarre to me that in all the world, ONE PERSON can be that much better than the #2.. all of the races were competitive for 2nd and 3rd but there is that one that is just that much better than anybody else.
They are just much more physically gifted. It is like that with the equestrian competition. Some horses are freaks of nature and destroy the competition.

It's like that in all sports. Perfect example is the NBA. Lebron is #1 and he keeps proving how monsterous the gap between him and everyone is. NFL is a little weird because there is no real way to measure who's the best pound for pound player. In the MLB if it's a pitcher, Kershaw by far. If it's an all around player, Mike Trout.

Wow - leader in women's biking just knocked her self out - hope she's alright
My goodness, that was a brutal crash. I'm not sure why it took NBC hours to get any sort of news about her condition, but I've kind of come to expect that from them by now.
Turns out she has three fractures in her spine, but nothing serious that would cause her paralysis. Apparently she was unconscious for several minutes, and it took awhile for an ambulance to attend to her, but she was alert once it finally came.
Man, is that guy incredible or what? He created the separation needed for that team to win. His turn after the first 50 meters was the deciding factor.
Side note: Could you imagine having a son/daughter participating in the Olympics? My adrenaline was pumping and I had goosebumps watching the 4x100 relay. I couldn't even fathom watching one of my kids compete at that level. Although, my daughter, at 12, is one helluva swimmer....
NBC's coverage is horrific. Amazed that they do not change their schedule to accommodate things like the Olympics or the World Cup. Seems a bit more important to me than the normal day to day tv and it only happens every 4 years. This weekend I woke up on Sat and Sun assuming they would have events live but, nope...just kids cartoons. Also...commercials, commercials, commercials.

hopefully you'll enjoy the times you get to watch her

I have not read the entire thread so someone may have said something about this previously.
I like watching the Olympics but it lost something for me when ( I think it was 1992) the US did not like losing in Basketball so we allowed NBA players. I think it is isn't the same when pros compete.
I realize the Soviet Block countries essentially used pros by claiming they were soldiers so they could train year round.
I don't think we will never see another Miracle on the Ice from 1980 because of this. That game was extra special because they were all essentially college kinds who did not all play regularly together except for about 3 months before Lake Placid.
Meh. If we were to use college players they'd be a bunch of teenagers playing against grown men in their 20's and 30's. That'd make it even more unfair than using pros. If anything they should set basketball up the same way they do soccer. Make the teams under 23 and then allow just a couple of established players.

Yes. They treat Olympic sports coverage like it's 1980. This isn't the Wide World of Sports anymore. They want to manipulate the coverage so that it fits into their tight little pre-determined schedule, so they can stretch everything out to way past prime-time, tease Michael Phelps races for 3 straight hours and squeeze in commercial after commercial while you wait.
The problem is, you log onto the internet to read email and whatnot, and you get all the results as news stories hours before NBC will actually show it. They claim they want to show all the "human interest" stories and package it in neatly with the events that go along with it, but half of those stories seem pretty manufactured in the first place.

I'm sure it's difficult in swimming and other sports but in those sports, you just go as fast as you can and if you win, you win... I think it would be much harder in a sport like gymnastics where you can actually "screw up" in front of everybody and then you have to be judged. This is Aly Raisman's mom watching her on the floor exercises last night.
Props to Gabby Douglas for not complaining about the "everybody gets a trophy" rule that prevents any one country from having more than 2 ladies in the individual finals. She finishes 3rd in the world but because she's behind 2 other American's she doesn't get to compete so other countries can have a chance.. <smdh>
I was waiting that last night and immediately thought of the Raismans' agony watching Aly. Still though, a bad turn, a soft touch or a false start could be the end as well. All of these athletes have to be under unbelievable pressure. Of course when you're 14, 16, 18, maybe you don't realize the scope and size of the stage?
