"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Delly also went 11/11/7 against an All-Star American lineup ... he's going to be coached by Jason Kidd this year too.

Continuing with my NBC criticism....

All they have shown on the primetime 8pm-12am slots is: Swimming, Beach Volleyball, Swimming, Gymnastics (barely), Swimming.

Nothing at all about any of the other events. Not even a recap. Absolutely horrible and totally unacceptable.

Meanwhile the BBC does stories on the refugees who are competing, they cover every event throughout the day or they will at least do a recap on it. Even the more obscure and random events get mention or some highlight. And....there are no commercials. I don't have BBC TV so unfortunately can't get my Olympics via their feed but, just so I can at least know what is happening outside of America and the few events NBC seems to think we only care about...I check in regularly to the Beebs website.

NBC truly sucks.

I agree. I find myself having to search the internet for recaps

I was thinking the same thing today. I was wondering if NBC realized other countries compete in the olympics too.

In 2015 the alpine skiing world championships was in Colorado and I got to attend. Being able to see all of the competition and not just the ones NBC allowed us to see made the event that much more exciting. Makaela Shiffrin won womens slalom in front of her home crowd. That excitement would have been lessened by seeing her race and nobody else.

They pander their programming to their base audience - Americans. Most people want to watch as much USA!USA!USA! as they can (and there's nothing wrong with that).

There's only so many hours in the day, and they have a LOT to try to fit in.

Tough golfing in Rio. But a lot of fun to watch.

The course looks more like the municipal courses I’ve played than what you see on the PGA Tour. (flat, minimally landscaped)

And the wind is brutal.

Kudos to those golfers competing.

And jeers to pampered, “To hell with fans.” millionaires like Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen.

I'm not sure they're even pandering. Almost everyone I've seen hates NBC's coverage. Yahoo News even had an article about how bad it's been.

I think the worst part is the insistence on putting all their premiere events at the back-end of the Primetime coverage. So Phelps has a Finals swim that night? Count on it being shown 10 minutes before the end of coverage, while they tease it for 3 hours straight and plop in 90 minutes worth of commercials in the meantime.

My wife completely missed the Gymnastics competition the other night because they showed it around 10:30 at night. And you can forget about inspiring your kids or anything with Olympic coverage, because they'll long be in bed by the time the good stuff comes on.

Yeah, we unfortunately don't have a DVR. We typically end up trying to dig up something on Youtube, which sadly, is usually available before NBC actually airs it. tongue

It was later than 10:30...we finally gave up at 10:40 and they still hadn't shown it. Probably around 11pm. On a week night too. Lame.

It's uncreative, lazy broadcasting and completely, totally revenue based. Even their streams only give you access for about 20 or so minutes and then they force you to sign up and pay.

Interesting how other countries seem to be able to find the time to showcase most competitions and honor winners whether it be their countrymen/women or not.

Olympic coverage during the day amoung the other channels is much more varied and enjoyable. Nbc coverage has been an abomination. Even worse, the nbc nightly news reports spoilers and ruins everything.

I know you said you don't have a dvr but you can get one for off air Tv. TiVo or a channel matter will work and allow you to time shift without having cable or satellite.

Other countries probably:

A.) don't have as many athletes in as many sports competing as the U.S.

B.) don't have a population as self-absorbed as Americans can be

Today, I watched what I would rank as the worst competition in the Summer Olympics - Equestrian Dressage.

This picture captures the essence of Equestrian Dressage.

No jumps, no speed, no tight maneuvers.

I'd best describe it as "Horse Ballet". Several riders were in their 50s.

Why?

You are not an equestrian so you cannot possibly grasp it.

oopsss...

yeah i'm not a horse-riding fan. did it once while on vacation in Wyoming. don't like being on an animal's back and don't like interacting with an animal that i don't have the ability to unequivocally control. i mean like physically control if necessary.

It is difficult to explain dressage to a non horse person because they dont understand how difficult it is to train and perform those movements flawlessly. Even the last place horse is worth millions.

So a different explaination. Dressage is originally derived from military training. Because in the old day horses in the calvery had to be very disciplined and manuverable in battle. Here is an article about that http://www.usdf.org/about/about-dressage/history.asp

There is an event called the dressage freestyle, where the horse and rider perform to a musical score. It is more dramatic than the regular tests. It is choreographed to the horse's movements. Some might find it more entertaining.

I know little about the competition but, have a friend who used to do it in South Africa. She worked hard and was as committed as Phelps, Bolt and any other professional athlete is to their sport. The hours she said she would put into it where unbelievable. Eve is correct about the military history but also that those who do not know it wont understand the amount of work involved. Keeping in mind it isn't just the rider but the training of the horse. Everything depends on the two being perfectly in sync with one another. Not an easy thing when animals are involved.

I like the analogy of equestrian ballet.
