I love the piano and other keyboard instruments. Thought I would start a thread about it, but I have to admit that it is somewhat overwhelming. I'll have to go slow and I would love to hear from as many of you as possible.
Some of the pieces I want to post are long and it will take some patience for you to get through them. My only advice is don't give up right away if the piece starts slow.
I think the piano is perhaps the most important musical instrument ever. It has such a wide range of notes and octaves. I think that makes it very versatile and it can capture so many different moods. Personally, I am not a fan of the bawdy type of piano songs, but prefer the richer, deeper pieces. But, this is art and I want you all to post and/or talk about your favorites.
I'll start w/a couple of my favorites and add more as the thread progresses [if it progresses...LOL]
It's not my favorite, but I'll start here: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, by Franz Liszt.
I'll cover more later and also move forward in time to get some jazz stuff, some modern pieces, and even some rock and pop stuff.
Btw........I am somewhat embarrassed about this, but why do my links just have the type and not the actual still of the vid? Not sure that even makes sense?

I follow a bunch of YouTube musicians. Many of them come up with original tunes, and cover tunes from all genres. Kyle Landy is one of my favorites, and the PianoGuys being another.
I've seen some of both before. Pretty cool. Different types of thinkers. And the Lion King is a beautiful piece.
Btw-----------if anyone actually listens to the Lang Lang plays Tchaikovsky piece....stay w/it. That's one of the pieces I was talking about. If you don't have the patience, skip to about the 8 min. mark or so.
This dude is my favorite jazz pianist. Check out the other musicians just shaking their heads and then stick around as he plays one of my mother's favorite songs, "Tenderly."
Some people don't like how jazz guys go off.....but, that's part of it, man.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Aight but imma warm you. EDM isn't for everyone. The pianos they use in these tracks are more to carry the beat along.
Well, anyway, here it is:
This dude is admin van buuren. Top 3 EDM DJ on the planet
It's more of a cross over track than pure trance.
This track is pure house music. David Guetta and Kid Kudi
This is my favorite track that I'm pushing right now.
This genre of EDM is called progressive house.

I like the organ, too. Most know--and love--this piece by Bach. And Bach rocks...literally. And check out the vid that comes w/this piece. Pretty cool.
My wife, Debbie, is an accomplished pianist, organist, harpsichordist, and is active in the local chamber music scene. In high school, she won a Young Artists contest and got to perform Rhapsody in Blue with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. After we were married, having saved enough for our house, she left her job as a bookstore manager and returned to school for her Masters in Piano Performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music. Since then she has been employed at a local university as adjunct faculty and staff pianist, along with her weekend job at a local Catholic church as Principal Organist and Music Director. But her biggest joy in life is performing, whether with chamber orchestras and choirs, as accompanist for faculty recitals, or at charity events with her trio mates, a trumpet player and a flutist.
Nobody gets rich playing piano, unless they are at the very top of their profession. My wife is a top notch player, and a wonderful musician, but even she would tell you that the top solo pianists are a different breed. Hours and hours of practice, dedication beyond belief - and nothing less - is what is required to be a renowned piano soloist. So she has foregone her "dream" of playing Carnegie Hall, but is still one of the happiest people I know because she loves her work.
And for the record, she says Franz Liszt is wickedly hard to play, because Liszt had such large hands that he composed music many female pianists and some male simply couldn't "reach" for. Deb can play Liszt - her hands are pretty normal sized but she has great flexibility and reach between thumb and pinky.
Anyway, forgive my brag post about my wife, but I'm pretty proud of her.
one of my fondest memories (well, we still do it luckily) is a neat tradition for my family. My sister, cousins, and I all spend the evening at my grandparents on December 23 (Christmas Eve Eve). We have dinner, watch movies, reminisce, etc ... and my grandpa plays Christmas carols on the piano.
I love the sound of it and am always envious of those who can play it well
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

It's not bragging. It's you being proud of her. I'm glad you shared that w/us.
I think a lot of us are awed by those w/musical gifts. Whether it be watching the hands of the pianists mentioned on this thread or the genius guitar players or the sax players who make their instrument come to life......it's just very inspiring and moving to watch these people create true art.
I think you are right to be proud and appreciative of your wife's abilities.
What a grand Christmas tradition. Thanks for sharing.

I have a long, long, long, long way to go to be even half as good as the piano players on this thread.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I had a choice senior year in high school, whether to major in music or the sciences and picked the sciences. When I went to college there wasn't as much opportunity to practice, and then I lived in places without access to a piano. Thanks for asking.
There are great versions of that piece, but man.....blind and self taught. The organ is so complex...........it's a freaking miracle! I hate to be dramatic, but man, that kid inspires me.
He unzips the pack and takes out a mini piano. He then takes out a 10 inch man. The man begins to play the piano beautifully. The bartender walks up the the man and says "Gee, where did you get the little man?" the guy hands him a magic lamp and says "rub it and make a wish."
The bartender rubs it and says, "I wish I had a Million Bucks!" POOF! Immediately, the bar is filled with a million ducks quacking and waddling about the place. The bartender looks at the man and says, "I think you lamp is broken" the man in return says "Yeah. Do you really think I asked for a 10-inch Pianist?"
This year, we lost one of the true pioneers of rock. He fused Classical, Jazz and electronics to lead the way in ProgRock.
Just in case anyone thought he was all about synthesizers and stabbing his Hammond B3 with Bowie knives, listen to Keith Emerson on the Steinway concert grand:
