Justin Gilbert is up next on the chopping block. Maybe. I think you get more for Mingo than you do for Gilbert. So, if the Mingo deal ends up being a conditional 6th or 7th, I'm guessing there is no market for Gilbert and you just move on.

I'd be happy if I were Mingo... especially under a defensive coach who won't let you rush the QB.
I'm sure Jabaal Sheard is happier in NE.... if Mingo sticks, he will be no different.

Yeah, I don't think anyone would trade a thing for Gilber.

I still think Gilbert has a chance to be a stud in this league but it isnt at corner. Over the top free safety is where he would be headed.

I was thinking he might've found his spot at ILB. Too bad we'll never know.

Imagine Scooby and alexander pushed him out of that position. That Alexander kid has honestly been our 2nd best player on D behind Nassib. Kindred right in there as well.

The only problem with that is he isn't physical enough for the position. To play FS you need to be a head hunter and hard hitter. That's not descriptive of Gilbert at all.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Wow! That's higher than I thought.
Maybe they really do see him in that Chandler Jones' role.

Well, I think that Mingo has a ton of potential. They are both long, fast, angular, agile, athletic guys.
I don't think the Browns properly utilized Mingo's skill-set and I feel he has a legit shot of playing well in New England.

That is a major steal for us. Dude was going to be cut for sure.
Will be interesting to see how Bill uses him. Heck who nows, he might try him at either TE or RB. lol
Congratulations to our 2016 NBA Champion CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!!! Greatest comeback in sports history... Hail to the King!

That's higher than what I expected Yeah, I had figured the max was a 7th rounder. A 5th? I'll take it! And yes, Mourgrym was spot on too with the Alexander mention. He's been showing up alot in preseason, always around the ball. Same too with Kindred, as mentioned. I like those two young kids. Kindred is a hitter!

Wow! I figured that the best we could do for him would be a 7th rounder that might turn into a 6th. Getting a 5th for him is a major coup for this front office.

Like others have said, I like Mingo as a person, but he never really worked out for us. I hope he works out in NE (not that I wish NE well.) Getting a 5th was a good trade IMO.

Gilber is a poor tackler. That is why he won't be switched to FS. Agreed. He's about only good for kick returns at this point. He's absolutely useless against the run. I have a hard time seeing him make the team. He doesn't wanna hit anyone. That's not my type of football player........ If your coverage isn't that good, then you have to play aggressive and be all over the ball when it gets there (like the way the Steelers have done it). He doesn't seem to do that. I think Alexander makes the team and Scooby goes to PS. Agreed and agreed. With Mingo gone, this opens it up at LB so we could have ILB: Demario, Kirks, Tank, Domanique, Schobert (OLB/ILB), OLB Kreuger, Orchard, Nassib, Ogbah. That makes 9 guys. I think that's about all we'll fit. When Bryant comes back, he'll be counted in with the D-Line guys IMO. Scooby will be Practice Squad. Domanique is the guy who's shined so far. I just wonder how long Scooby will last on the PS. It's not like he's been bad, it's just that our bottom tier guys have played better than expected 5th round pick for Mingo is a pretty good deal IMO. It's sad because he showed potential as a rookie, and he's very athletic and shows good character. I just don't think his instincts are there to be successful in the NFL. He's been absolutely horrid vs the run.

Plus couldn't we get like 3-4 comp picks.

Over/Under on Sacks Mingo gets this year: .5
Over/Under on how long after Mingo gets a Sack that someone claims we were stupid for trading him and it's all Jimmy Haslem's fault: 2 Minutes
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

That's higher than what I expected That might be a little higher than what we think he's worth but if they wanted him, we didn't have to get rid of him.. probably bumped it up a round.

I could see the FO turning some of these into 2018 picks. That and bundling them up in a (or multiple) trade up packages. One thing I remember is that Podesta said that the QB is the most important position in football. He compared it to having an Ace pitching every game. If RG3 isn't working out, I doubt we would even hesitate to move up and get a QB we view as a top QB. Remember, he didn't say what we would have done if Jared Goff landed in our lap. Just that he didn't think Carson Wentz was like a top 20 QB (or the odds weren't favorable that he would be).

I'm sticking to my statement that I made last week that I think BB and New England will find a productive role for Mingo.
I do NOT think he was ever as bad as most posters claimed he was.
I think that he was not properly used.
I think he has rare skills.
I do think that he is not a sound tackler and lacks upper body strength.
Good coaching is all about putting players into positions where they can make plays. Some big-name players are very limited, especially pass rushers.

I think he has rare athleticism, but I'm not sure it fully translates to football skills.
Browns is the Browns

The Barkevious Mingo trade is more proof that the Patriots are the smartest franchise in sports
By: Charles Curtis | August 25, 2016 3:47 pm I can sum up how I feel about the New England Patriots’ trade for former sixth-overall pick Barkevious Mingo in one tweet: It’s exactly that kind of move that makes the Pats one of the best-run franchises in all of sports. The Cleveland Browns selected Mingo out of LSU in 2013. Since then, he’s racked up all of seven sacks in 46 NFL games — exactly zero in 2015 — and it looked like he was on the outs with the franchise in the preseason. Now, the Patriots have snapped him up, just like they do with other former first-rounders who fall out of favor. There’s a lot of shame going around on Twitter aimed at the Browns giving up on yet another failed first-rounder, but the flip side is they got something back for a player they might have cut, another sign things are going better in Cleveland. Mingo, more than anything, represents horrendous drafting by the Browns’ front office in recent years: Browns 1st-round picks 2011-15: Phil Taylor Trent Richardson Brandon Weeden B. Mingo Justin Gilbert Johnny Manziel Danny Shelton Cam Erving Instead, let’s look closer what the Patriots just did: They got a former top-6 talent in Mingo, gave him a change of scenery and put him in the hands of one of the best defensive minds in football history. If Bill Belichick figures out that Mingo is, at the very least, an effective pass-rushing linebacker who appears only on third-downs, it’s a big win for the Pats. Kicking the tires on talented players who need a restart has worked well before — remember what happened with Aqib Talib and Randy Moss? And if Mingo continues to be a bust? Back he goes to the scrap heap without a second thought. Am I clouded by the bias that the Patriots win every transaction because of their name and history? Absolutely. But when you make low-risk, high-reward moves like they do and some of them pay off, there’s a reason for that bias. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/08/new-england-patriots-browns-barkevious-mingo-trade-analysis

surprised we got a 5th for him ... granted it's gonna be a very late 5th
good move IMO
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Just to further add, we might be looking at 3 4th round picks and 1 5th round pick at the worst in additional compensatory picks. So when it's all said in done we could be looking at: 1st: 2 2nd: 2 3rd: 1 4th: 6 5th: 4 6th: 1 7th: 1 17 picks in total. I'd actually be fine with using every single pick to create competition and not just giving rookies a spot.
