Danny Shelton impressed me in the 1st half.

Kizer of Notre Dame is better to me.

Defense played well for being on the field all day
Wentz looked good and Philly has their QB (ours is hurt )
Coleman is a project ( first round picks are not a project)
Barnidge worst game as a Brown
Hayden has become old fast
Hue coaching reminds me of a coach who was fired once before
Pryor made some plays but needs help

overall this team will be 1 and 15 if lucky

So we think the defense sucks, but want to praise Wentz for torching a bad defense...?

I like this

Hes being incredibly overrated by local and national media. He made a few decent throws, but mostly he benefitted from a light pass rush and a horrible secondary.

So really, just trying to bring those that think he was a pro bowl qb today down to earth.

This will likely go down as the biggest blunder of this FO's tenure. Wentz showed some rookie attributes, but he can only get better. This does not bode well, nor instill much confidence for future moves.

I hated that they allowed ego to interfere with re-signing Schwartz. I thought signing RGIII was a boneheaded move, and I loathed the trade out from the number two spot, virtually giving away Wentz. I did not like that they passed on Lynch & Dak but wondered WTF??? when they drafted Kessler. They may have something in Ogbah and Nassib, but Coleman had hand questions coming in, and making him our first pick reeked of inexperience. Most of their moves reek of inexperience and ego. I can only wonder what future draft mishaps are waiting for us. When we're sitting at one or two next year, we better take the top QB available or I'm through.

Maybe they can say Wentz didn't measure up (funny Philly didn't see it that way,) but there will likely be a QB there for us in 2017. If they blow that, I'm done with the franchise. I've been waiting thirty years for them to get the QB question right. Enough is enough.

The issue is this, I knew they were going to suck going in. It was no longer even a question. Hope has been dashed. The organization has managed to take that final bastion and blow it to smithereens. Check my number in the prediction thread. The only thing I didn't foresee was the safety. Had I thought about it more, given the fact that Erving sucks so bad on long snaps, I might've reasoned that out as well. With no hope, there is no reason to watch. We'll see how the season pans out, and how the next draft goes, but I am thoroughly fed up.

We did make some nice plays on both sides of the ball. One or two things go differently and we don't lose by as much.

If I'm in this FO, I take Cardale Jones instead of Kessler in the 3rd or even the second. I know 2015 Jones wasn't as good as 2014, but if you can get him as late as he was taken he'd definitely have been worth it.

He's big, strong, NOT A STICK, fast and accurate enough to hang with anyone on our roster now.

Nothing to be done about it now.

Hell, we could've taken some more linemen with Thomas like qualities.

Pass protection wasn't bad for the most part, but run blocking STILL leaves much to be desired.

Dak Prescott looks LIGHT YEARS ahead of RG3. Cardale probably would be better by the end of the year too

Dak looked light years ahead of Kessler in the preseason
but the apologists for the new regime didn't want to hear it.
like I said Dak outplayed RG3 in the preseason and outplayed him today.

I just can't imagine just how thankful Mingo and Sheard are to be off this garbage dump and playing with the Pats.

Trading down for extra picks and not staying where we were and picking the QB that carved us up today was stupid. When Browns get first pick in next year's draft, don't want to hear any talk about trading away the pick and moving down!

I thought this was our best chance to win a game this year ..

Lets watch the pups grow and pray the coaching staff quits with the BS and lets them line up and play football .. Lets learn and teach the kids .. That's what this years always been about anyhow ..

And the FO will just trade those picks instead of fixing the QB position.

I can see Philly winning 6 games or so. Wentz is better than expected. They have decent front 7. Decent receiving weapons

I thought this game played out about as I thought it would.

Disappointed that we didn't win but I really thought we had no chance to start with.

We must eliminate the self inflicted mistakes dropped balls are drive killers.

I see some good young talent that will get better and better as the season rolls along and thats as much as I had hoped for.

I was disappointed with Coleman he catches the ball with his body, no no no.

RG3 is not the guy but he too showed improvement over what i saw in pre season. this team is at a huge disadvantage in terms of experience and time playing together but there is talent its just not going to come together this year. At this point getting better every week has to be the goal.

I would add this Eagles team is a very good team they have a legit shot at the playoffs and maybe a deep run into the playoffs we hung with them pretty well.

If you were thinking we had a real shot then I understand your disappointment.

Agreed. The only reason I am watching is to see if the kids are worth anything (and thus corelating to the new FOs ability to draft). If someone is wanting wins they should probably not watch.....not gonna be many if any this year.

Having said that I thought Nassib continued to impress, and Ogbah looked decent as well. Coleman's hands are a concern imo, and something that bares watching.

Oh and your right we very well might end up with the top 2 picks this year.....hopefully these guys can draft.

Philly will be lucky to win 6 games. Hell no, they are not going to the playoffs.

No thoughts I work Sundays. The only thing I saw was the final score. The only numbers that matter.

My thoughts:

o the offense gameplan was very conservative and on the whole I thought the playcalling was disjointed to the point I wonder if Hue and Pep are sharing the playcalling duties

- The Eagles were playing stout against the run and building an 8-man box against our base package and we tried in vain to run right into it on 1st down

-everything looked hard on offense, couldn't get anything easy, couldn't find a rhythm. The short stuff was covered well, didn't get the ball to WRs via screens (were there any WR screens?)

o I was surprised we couldn't get the run game going, in fact I was in shock over the lack of run game

o too many mistakes: from drops, to head scratching play calls (fake punt), to a horrible snap that Griffin couldn't handle, tipped pass interception, bad field position,

o The cornerbacks looked horrendous. Flat out terrible. All of them Tramon, Taylor and Haden got beat badly this game. This cannot continue if it does nothing else really matters. The entire defense will have to change to cover them up. Which means no more Cover-1 man which means worse run defense and less blitz opportunities.

o Griffin can't miss a gimme TD toss like the one to Hawk, this team can't afford to let any chances slip

o Nassib is a player, I saw a QB hit, sack, TFL and 2 PBUs

o Shelton made some plays

o Love Kindred's physicality and hustle

o Tackling has to tighten up

o Barnidge vanished after his drops

o Cooper had a pressure, and Shobert just missed a sack but forced Wentz out of bounds

Cooper also had a terrible offsides and was yanked

JT got burnt big time on one sack

and Pasztor may be replaced sooner than later ... he was ole'd like three straight plays ... and didn't pick up on a few stunts

hadnt really noticed it until perusing the scores this morning, but the Browns were the only team to lose by double digits yesterday.

looking at the scores is like "one of these things is not like the other"

Normally I would agree with this take because that's been Thomas's MO, but on that play he just got flat out beat. It happens.

At this point I hope we trade Thomas to a contender. I want to see him enjoy some winning before it's all said and done. And I would also have a new team to root for.

On a side note, I saw D4Life already mentioned it...Browns were the only non-competitive game in the entire NFL yesterday. Against a rookie D2 QB who had little to no practice since being drafted. Against a rookie head coach. I like Hue. I hope he gets a minimum of 5 years to turn this around, but I see very little light at the end of the tunnel.

If it were me running the team I would NOT build around the QB. You need to build the team as a whole before you take a high 1st round QB and expect success, that's how it should be. You take a high first round QB now, he will get obliterated behind our offensive line, no running game to rely on (hopefully Johnson plays full time soon), no polished WR's, play calling not established.

We're not building at the QB position because we're not there yet at that point in the draft. With that being said, that's not to say completely ignore the position because you can't. Scour for new players all the time, if you see more talented people who can play QB while waiting for your franchise QB, by all means go out and get him.

Right now I think the following needs to happen, perhaps it will, maybe not.

-If RG3 continues to struggle or get injured replace him with Josh McCown.

-Replace Crowell at RB with Duke Johnson and give him reps full time, move him to #1 on the depth chart. He was Miami's all time leading rusher, give him a chance. Why is Crowell #1 anyway?

Maybe you're confusing me with somebody else, but I was adamant at the re-signing of Schwartz and/or Mack.

We sucked.. Overall that is.

Saw good and bad from Ogbah, Nassib (mostly good), Coleman (what a catch).

Again Pryor showed up pretty well. RGIII had his moments...

Dline isn't exactly ripping it up.

I'm going to give the D a bit of a pass here. They are REALLY young.. I'll hold my opinion beyond what I've said.

But Drops by Barnage and Hawkins are unacceptable. Gotta wonder what if.

Totally worried about Erving at Center.... I know the Eagles have a pretty good group of pass rushers but geez.

Our Running game didn't make the trip I guess.

Anybody notice Jamar Taylor at all? I didn't hear/see him one time

I noticed Taylor gave a huge cushion and didn't seem to like to play man press. He also got hurt and took himself out of the game at one point. Didn't impress me. Glad we got rid of K'Waun who did impress me on a nearly weekly basis.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The day ended with Carson Wentz accepting congratulations for a historic first game and Robert Griffin III speaking in obvious pain, unable to move his left arm very much.

The first read on the big April trade is an obvious one. Advantage, Eagles.

Wentz was “awesome” -- in the words of Browns receiver Terrelle Pryor -- throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns and leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 29-10 triumph over the Browns in his first NFL game.

“The kid’s gonna be a ‘baller. You guys got one,” Pryor said to a Philadelphia inquisitor. “He looked very patient. He looked like he’d been there before.”

Griffin was much like his preseason form – two long completions and nothing much else.

He completed 12 of 26 for 190 yards, was intercepted once on a pass tipped two times, and was sacked three times. Subtracting completions of 44 yards to Pryor and 58 to Corey Coleman, Griffin threw for 88 yards.

He was victimized by three dropped passes early in the game and had a big over-throw for Andrew Hawkins open in the left corner of the end zone on the first possession of the second half with the Eagles ahead, 13-7.

And at the end, with the game long decided, Griffin resorted to his Washington days, failing to slide after a run and getting annihilated head-on by Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills at the right sideline.

“A guy kind of surprised me on the sideline. I was trying to get out of bounds,” Griffin said.

Griffin stayed in for one more pass to end that series and then campaigned with coaches and trainers to finish the game in the final minute, handing off three times. Griffin dressed very slowly in the locker room and was obviously limited in using his left arm.

“It hurt pretty bad,” Griffin said. “It’s a sprained shoulder. We’ll just monitor it and see how it goes. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”

Wentz was flawless on his first possession to grab a 7-0 lead, but the Browns’ defense kept the game within reach until the third quarter. That’s when an errant Cam Erving shotgun snap led to a nine-point swing.

Erving’s snap sailed over Griffin’s outstretched arms and out of the end zone for a safety. On the ensuing Eagles’ possession, Wentz took his team 73 yards on nine plays, lofting a perfect pass over Joe Haden to Nelson Agholor for a 35-yard touchdown.

A 13-10 Eagles lead ballooned to 22-10 in about 4 ½ minutes. Ballgame.

Count Haden among the Browns who were impressed with Wentz.

“He’s a good quarterback,” Haden said. “He’s better than I expected. He was very patient, able to go through his reads. I expected him to take off running. I definitely think they got a good one.”

One more accolade from Browns left tackle Joe Thomas.

“I’m no good on evaluating quarterbacks, but all I can say is that it didn’t seem like he played like a rookie,” he said. “He was standing back there even when he had pressure in his face getting hit and throwing the ball on target, and moving the ball all over the field. I can tell you he was pretty impressive.”

Enough about Wentz. What about the Browns’ offense?

The Browns had 14 first downs, 288 yards on 50 plays, and were 2 of 10 on third down conversions. Until the last series, when Isaiah Crowell ran 3 times for 40 yards, the leading ground-gainer was Griffin with 37 yards.

“I don’t think we’re playing as well as we can on offense,” coach Hue Jackson said. “So I will fix that. I feel very comfortable in getting that squared away. We can play better than we played on offense. We had some drops early. That was very uncharacteristic of us a little bit. Those things bleed into other things, so we just have to play better.”

Jackson contributed to the Browns’ 12th consecutive loss in a season opener with a strange call. He signed off on a fake punt early in the second quarter on fourth-and-5 from the Browns’ 41. The Eagles held a 7-0 lead.

The Browns tried to catch the Eagles’ punt return team off guard and motioned punter Britton Colquitt to the left side of the line and Duke Johnson behind center. Johnson took the snap, moved a little to the right, and was buried for a 6-yard loss. The Eagles turned that gaffe into a field goal and 10-0 lead.

“Totally my responsibility,” Jackson said. “It doesn’t matter what the circumstances were. We didn’t get it done right. That’s on me.”

The Browns played about two solid quarters on defense, but ultimately surrendered 403 yards and 23 first downs to a raw rookie quarterback who missed most of the preseason with fractured ribs.

“I never said we are going to go 16 and 0,” Jackson said.
