you need speed and athletism these days to play LB in the NFL.
Scooby had neither.
if you can't make the roster as a defensive player on
this team your really cut out for the CFL not the NFL.
it's not like the Browns Defense Is Made up of game changers.

Yeah but then Nassib broke his hand.

He and Nassib play the same position, but are not similar players at all. My guess is that Tyrone Holmes takes most of Nassib's snaps and Gabe Wright takes over for John Hughes (I think Wright was inactive last week too).

Anything Hughes can do Meder or Paea can also probably do.

Last week Holmes played only 4-3 DE and Nassib was the end on the other side until he broke his hand. I don't think Holmes is nearly big enough to play a 3-4 DE. But yeah they must be excited about what Gabe Wright can do if they are willing to part with Hughes.

When we line up with a three man front, which is not that often, my guess is we go with a combo of Shelton/Meder/Paea/Wright/Cooper. Like I said before, I don't think Hughes has some sort of talent that the other guys I mentioned don't have.

I agree. Just saying that some people liked him from his time in college and not just preseason.

I always thought he was a long shot to make it. Surprised he made our final roster to be honest. Just not a good NFL talent.

Great attitude, effort, and all of that.

You remind me a lot of leadtheway. Are you guys brothers or something?

When comparing our players to other teams, I think people discount the fact that players that get drafted into good situations onto teams with stability and consistency within their organizations have a greater chance of success than those who get drafted by teams like the Browns. It's no coincidence that a lot of Steeler players, for example, really start to show something in years 2 or 3. They develop players, they don't panic when the player isn't a HOF from game 1 of their careers, they get inserted into consistent systems that other players are already familiar with and can teach the new guys, and they aren't hiring a new FO and coach every year to muck it all up.

There is very little talent difference in the NFL except at the QB position. But organizations themselves are way different.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I have been back and forth w/the new regime. Some good moves, some bad moves.

Cutting Hughes? Are you kidding me? This comes on the tails of screwing K. Williams?

Nah..........not feeling it.

"K'Waun was one of my really good friends on the team," Joe Haden said of Williams on Aug. 21. "Just a tough situation. Some people, you gotta really love this to be here. It's a lot of hours, a lot of things you have to put into it, and if your'e not all-in to it then it's no one's place to tell you what you want to do.

doesn't sound like Kwaun was putting in the work or the hours...not sure how we "screwed" him.

I was one of a very few people who liked the Hughes pick when it was made. The only thing I can figure is that there is something going on with Hughes, related to the time he missed in training camp. (when some reporters opined that he might not be coming back)

If there was an issue with him, that brought his commitment into question, (and I am just offering one opinion as to why he was released) then it makes sense for him to have been cut. I really cannot think of any other reason for it.

K. Williams was known for how much he studied and put extra work in. In your mind, it might not "sound" like he put the work in, but the facts tell a different story.

In fact, Gibler was asked what he thought about the "countless hours" that Williams spent studying tape when both were rookies, and Gilber relied that he would rather sleep than study.

I hated that draft choice. Another one I was wrong on. He played good here and he won me over. Kinda like Brian Russel when we got him from Minni.

What you are saying makes sense and it could be true, but I have a problem w/automatically assigning blame to the player especially when some of the moves by the FO have been beyond suspect.

Yet Williams is a free agent right now. I get that he has some bone spurs, but he appeared to be a very good Nickel, and one I would have been picked up, even with a relatively minor bone spurs issue. (not minor as in pain, but minor as in surgical repair and recovery time)

One thing that concerned me about Williams was his concussions. If another team picks him up at some point, I hope that he is free from any further concussions.

I have no idea what happened between the team and Williams, but it is obvious that something blew up there.

hmm...not sure what facts you are referring too? If Joe is saying that no can tell him what he wants...and then go on about Hours and putting in the work. I can only read that so many ways

Hey, I have been right there with you. If you recall, I was all for taking Wentz, until we got what I thought was an offer you just don't turn down, especially when the Browns were as bereft of talent as they were. Maybe that's wrong, but I am going to wait and see how things turn out.

I was a huge Dansby pimp, and was disappointed, though not surprised, when they released him. It was absolutely clear that they were going young. I was never surprised that Mack left, but you know that I was the biggest Schwartz pimp on this board, and I was extremely disappointed in the fact that we not only did not re-sign him, but in the way it has been reported that it went down.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Travis Benjamin. He is off to a smoking start in San Diego. He was another guy who I felt should have been brought back. I see no need to save cap space, when you have a quality player. Benjamin is the leading receiver on the Chargers right now, and leads the team in TD catches. I think that he could have really helped this team, and could have helped more than having a little more cap space.

Anyway, nothing I can do to change those things, so all I can do is to hope that the moves the Browns have made work out.

Shazier?

The guy who didn't have a single sack his rookie year. Who only started 5 games his rookie year, and missed 8 other games with two different injuries. The guy who missed 4 more games in 2015. The guy who while playing for the Steelers for 2 years and 2 games this year only has 3.5 sacks and 2 int's That Shazier.

Well WAKE UP

Kirksey was drafted the same year and has 17 more tackles than Shazier and 3 more sacks.

I'm not aware of Denver's d-line depth but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Broncos sign John Hughes.

Tom Heckert connection and all.

I just read the Colts have released Winston Guy safety. Is he someone we might be interested in? I don't know much about him.

Haha, yeah. It's ironic how many DL they got after we've split ways with them. Holy moly.

Scooby Wright cleared waivers and we put him on our practice squad.

My guess is that we cut Darius Jennings in order to open a spot on the practice squad.

Browns LB Scooby Wright cleared waivers. The Browns signed him to the practice squad at his same weekly salary of $26,470, per source.

Per NFL contract guru / former agent Joel Corry, that ties Wright as the highest-paid practice squad player in the NFL with Rico Gathers.

Wright & Gathers: $26,470 / wk
Stephen Morris (QB): $20k / wk
Keenan Reynolds: $16.5k / wk

Most at $6.9k / week
