Didja hear that Braylon?
I have been saying this about our "star" WR since he opened his yap before the steeler game last year.
The sad part?
The Giants were 8-8.
That means EVERYONE, winslow, Braylon...EVERYONE. SHUT UP AND PLAY.
You talk AFTER you win. Yapping your gums to the media isn't good NO MATTER HOW PASSIONATE YOU ARE. Coughlin Wants Less Talk, More Wins By CLIFTON BROWN Published: June 14, 2007 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., June 13 — Tom Coughlin wants to coach a Giants team that does more winning and less bickering. Facing a pivotal year in his coaching career, Coughlin delivered a message when the team opened its three-day minicamp Wednesday. Simply put, Coughlin wants better performance and less talk. The Giants, who started 6-2 last season, lost 7 of their last 9 games, including their playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Along the way, several players criticized the coaching staff, there was division in the locker room, and the team never regained its momentum. A similar season could cost Coughlin his job. So, on the first day of minicamp, he was determined to set a different tone. “What we would really like to do, and I’ve talked to our team about it, is do our playing on the field and let our play do the talking,” Coughlin said. “Not spend so much time trying to explain who we are, where we are. Let’s just play the game. Talk is cheap.” Asked why he felt compelled to convey that message to the team, Coughlin said: “Because I think basically we talked too much. We need to play the game, and let our performance do our talking for us. We are in the media capital of the world, I understand that. But by the same token, performance is the key here. We need to get back to playing the game.” How well Coughlin’s message resonates will play a part in the team’s chemistry. One of the most outspoken Giants during Coughlin’s tenure, Tiki Barber, has retired. Barber criticized the Giants’ coaching strategy on several occasions during his career. But the Giants still have strong veteran personalities, including tight end Jeremy Shockey, defensive end Michael Strahan and wide receiver Plaxico Burress. If the Giants win consistently, it will be much easier for Coughlin to keep a lid on the locker room. But griping usually comes with losing, and several players said Wednesday that dissension hurt the team last season. “The distractions we had last year kind of affected us a little bit,” linebacker Antonio Pierce said. “We need to get back to having fun. Last year, it was fun when we were 6-2. After that, it wasn’t fun for me. “We don’t need to feed into the negativity. I don’t want to worry about coming in here saying: ‘Why is this teammate fighting? Why did he say that?’ This ain’t high school. This is professional football.” Asked about Barber’s outspokenness last season, Pierce smiled and said: “Tiki’s not here no more. He’s part of the media. He’s a great Giant, we wish him the best in the media. But that was his comments and his views.” Strahan said the Giants would have fewer internal problems because Coughlin established a looser atmosphere. “Coach just has a lot easier demeanor about him,” Strahan said. “When you look at him, you don’t get tense. Before, he just was a very intense fellow. But you look at him, you feel like you can go talk to him. He’s going to come over and joke with you. “Before, we just didn’t have that rapport. As the years have gone by, the better the rapport has gotten. Guys enjoy playing for him. I can’t always say that, but now guys enjoy playing for him.” EXTRA POINTS Fullback Jim Finn, who had shoulder surgery this week, has been placed on injured reserved and will miss the 2007 season. ... Linebacker Jessie Armstead officially retired after signing a one-day contract with the Giants. In nine years with the team, Armstead made five Pro Bowls. ... Michael Strahan, who did not participate in drills, said that he was recovering nicely from his right foot injury and that he expected to remain an elite defensive end at age 35. “I feel like I can have my best year this year,” Strahan said. “I feel great. I’ve been running, no problem.” http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/sports/football/14giants.html?ref=sports

For the love of everything Holy, shup up already. I couldn't stand the weeks leading up to the draft because of the bickering and fighting over draft picks. Now I can't wait for the season to start so I don't have read you people complain about BE and whoever else is the flavor of the week to hate on.
Many of you don't like BE, WE GET IT. You don't have to post a new thread every week.

yay! I agree. Where did the Little B decide he talks for the club? Just win 1st and I MIGHT be able to tolerate listening to you. What a pretender. Produce already! And the part that galls me the worst is Little B somehow feeling that what I as a fan want and need is a lame snappy explanation after a crappy onfield performance, clutch drops, and somehow that excuses nasty play. It doth not, ever. The only 2 things a number of self-declared "stars" have standing in their way are a) the brain and b) the mouth. I suspect to be the force and premier receiver, umm, you need to receive (as in catch) the ball consistently and relentlessly. All the trash talk and distraction never shows up on the scoreboard. Get your ship together! Da Browns! Use the Chud, baby! And may the Elf be with us!

You prelude about Braylon talking before the Pittsburgh game, and the article about Coughlin telling his team to keep there traps shut have nothing to do with each other. 1 is about a player pumped up to play the teams biggest rival. The other is about a team with locker room issues, complaining about the coaches, etc. I don't see the connection, other than it was a chance for you to take shots at Braylon again. Otherwise, interesting article, down here we ONLY hear about Tampa, Miami, and a little of Jacksonville, and then the "team of the year". So I hadn't heard any of this about the Giants, quite interesting.

What the Giants were saying is far different than what K2 said about himself at 90%. The Giants were constantly complaining about being outcoached, the play calls, how much they were getting the ball, the rigor of practices, camp, etc. How tough Coughlin was, how they weren't prepared, blah, blah, blah. Come to think of it.........Leon would fit in well w/that team. Wonder if they would trade us a first for Leon?

It'll be interesting to read about the G-men after they start losing and see if Tom had any effect. They ran their mouth too much and it became a repeating circle.
Common problem of too many chiefs, not enough indians if you ask me. They didn't look to their veterans for what to do, and Shockey is ..well, he's been a ok tight end, but nothing so spectacular that he should be running his mouth. The only one I gave any credence to last year was when Tiki spoke up.

hehe...and his biggest criticism came from Tiki Barber - Who no longer is there. So he's calling out....Who? Tiki? lol Its like challenging the Bully after he moves out of town...

I'm not whining, I like Braylon...that is no secret. You can say all the negative you want about him, but until we get another WR that is better (I will go ahead and directly quote you here...) "You can take your sarcastic attitude and shove it".

That was my EXACT thought when you said it to me in the first place. I know you're not stupid, you have a good deal of football knowledge more so than myself. I just watch football for different reasons I suppose. Hence why I like players like TO and Braylon. I find them entertaining and I find people's reactions to their antics even more entertaining. I love when people get bent out of shape over something completely stupid, it helps me get through my day. If Braylon had 15 catches for 20 yards or something stupid like that I would have no problem throwing him under the bus homer or not. It's just not the case.

Didn't realize I was crying when I pointed out simple facts. The 2 scenarios don't match, but then again, I could find similarities between anything if you look hard enough.
We heard BpG's gripes on Braylon's mouth on like a dozen threads a couple weeks ago, I just didn't see the connection in this story. Maybe I just choose not to rip on my team's players, it's pretty much the same thing as locker room cancer, but it's cancer among the fans.

I think the exact opposite.
I think it is cancerous for the fans to just sit back and accept anything the players do even when they disagree with it.

My favorite one from last year was Burress (who actually makes Leon look like a boy scout) ..
Burress missed his exit interview in 05 .... he then shows up for NONE OF THE VOLUNTARY STUFF ... NOT ONE THING .. not the mini camps, not the off season work out program .. NOTHING ... stood at his house in Fla. I believe the ENTIRE OFF SEASON except for the one mandatory mini camp ...
then he reports to TC in July and says that Tom does a horrible job of reaching out to his players .. he said he didnt reach out to me or contact me once at all last off season .. *LOL* ... i just thought that was HYSTERICAL .. this guy is truely a MORON ..
The giants need to do like Opie has here and start bringing in QUALITY PEOPLE that are good football players and quit bringing in JACK ASSES that are very good - marginal football players and think there way better than they are ..
Eli is a good start ... now they need more guys like him and Toomer ..

You made your point well known several times, so why bring up Braylon in a thread that has nothing to do with the Browns, the AFC North, or even the AFC period? We knew your stance, so what's your point of interjecting it into this article?
And for the record, I'm not defending Braylon here or being a homer or anything, just trying to understand the connection of the 2 parts of your topic.

It wasn't my point i was trying to prove. I was just saying it isn't just some posters on this board that feel players need to shut up and play. It's NFL people who KNOW they need to.
It shows that it wears on your team and your co-workers. A lot of people want to rush to braylons defense and act like it doesnt hurt the team, and it does.
That was my point.

Maybe I missed it then, cause I don't recall Braylon saying the coaches sucked. The last argument was about him saying how he thinks this team will win, how they will beat Pittsburgh, how he has improved and will continue to improve, and how the team is working to become better.
Guess we just agree to disagree on what cancerous means to a team.

I'm having trouble keeping up since I don't post much in pure football.. when there is no pure football going on... but as I read it...
Our team needs leaders... but none of them are allowed to talk.
RAC is a moron because he gives bland answers... but if he said more, he'd be an idiot because he's talking and not winning....
We want players who understand the rivalries and the history but if Braylon talks about winning a big game against Pittsburgh he's an idiot ......
If we get no news or stories or quotes from a team then they are standoffish and not fan oriented and need to understand who pays their salaries... if they talk they are idiots because they had a losing record and you have to win before you can talk.....
We want a team with swagger, with attitude, with a winners mentality..... just one that doesn't say anything... I guess they should walk around like a mute Chuck Norris and shun the media... except then they'd be compared to Barry Bonds....
Ok, just writing it out has helped me forumlate my opinion.. the players and coaches can't win... and y'all need another hobby in the offseason because dissecting every freakin' sentence, every word out of a players mouth is going to drive you to an asylum at a young age...

You can take your big, bad attitude elsewhere. Your act is tired. I think sometimes, you guys post just to see yourselves post. Maybe they should create an "Anti-Braylon" forum and you can be the moderator of it. Then you and BpG can post articles that talk about price of tea in China and how Braylon's missing 1 practice influences it. Then you guys can have pat each other on the back and have a hearty chuckle.

No problem... if I think things are going to be worse than you think they are going to be, then my opinion is that of a realist. If you think things are going to be worse than I think they are going to be, then your opinion is that of a negativist. Hope that helps.

Just because some loud mouthed "wanna be" doesn't perform as well as he runs his mouth, you don't wanna hear it. Well, you're GONNA hear it here. Wheather you like that or not!
It's put up AND shut up time for Braylon. And you boys running "the excuse machine" can just learn to deal with it. If you don't?
I'm pretty sure that Bpg and Vers pretty much agree with the fact that We don't care what some "Braby Coddler" thinks about that. See,we actually expect "professionals" to act and PEFRORM like professionals. Sorry you promote mouthy underachievers. Ain't my cross to bear.As long as you're here and Braylon runs his mouth better than he catches the damn ball,it's gonna be a fact of life that we'll be bringing it up.
And your whining ain't gonna stop it.
