Yeah, the lamest no hitter in history that is no longer a no hitter... He walked batters in every inning and got luck that we didn't get one hit to score runs. I'm tired of seeing all of your crap from one thread to the next about how bad Cleveland sports suck. You said the same thing about the Cavs and you were wrong. The Tribe will prove you wrong. And, dare I say it? The Browns will probably prove you wrong. You don't have any real insight or true knowledge of the game. Hell, you don't even use proper punctuation and capitalization.

Great win tonight. Amazing performance by the bullpen after Carrasco going out after being hit by the second pitch in the game.

Another clutch hit by Ramirez on what was a good pitch by the pitcher.

The inability to get a run in with guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs is a concerning.

Go get the sweep tomorrow and enjoy an off day on Monday.

I realize that our World Series aspirations are probably over now, but I just want to say that I love this team. They have no quit in them.

Stick a fork in the Tigers, because their ass is DONE.

When Carrasco went down, Francona called the bullpen: "Tell them to put their seatbelts on. They're all gonna pitch and we're gonna win."

Someone needs to step up. I'm scared if that someone is pitching in Boston. No pressure.

Don't give up hope just yet, Dave! This team reminds of the '95 team. So much fun. If nothing else, it's been an amazing ride. Tough to ever count these guys out.

I cannot wait to be inside the park at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario for some playoff baseball. There's nothing like it!

I think that person will be Tomlin. Here is why.

I think Tomlin is a good pitcher when his arm is fresh. This is demonstrated by his "great" 1st half. Then has his arm fatigued, he trailed off significantly. He was removed from the rotation. Salazar gets injured and Tomlin comes back into the rotation after missing a start or two. With the refreshed arm he had a quality outing.

Come playoff time, he will get more rest between starts (assuming we keep a 4 man rotation). So I predict Tomlin will thrive come playoff time. Could be wishful thinking, but for that is my story and I'm sticking with it until proven other wise

Good point on Tomlin being fresh and needing a break. He hasn't thrown as many innings as he has this year since 2011.

Last night’s Indians game was a classic. One of the rarest in the history of MLB.

Starting pitcher throws a total of two pitches. No runs, no outs, one hit.

All ten innings are “in relief”.

Super win for the Tribe. Really takes a lot of pressure off.

Which in turn gives Francona more leeway/options for managerial choices in these final regular season games to prepare the team for the play-offs.

Saturday afternoon Carlos Carrasco suffered a fractured finger when his second pitch of the game was lined back up the middle. The injury almost certainly means his season over, a tough break for the pitcher and for the Cleveland Indians, whose starting rotation will also be without All-Star Danny Salazar the rest of the way. Paul Hoynes, Indians beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer (and its internet arm, Cleveland.com), tweeted "Sept. 17: Remember the date because that's when Indians' postseason dreams ended before they began." The purpose of the tweet was to send out a link to his recap of the day's game, which opened with the line, "The Indians won a ballgame Saturday afternoon, but their postseason dreams ended." If you notice how definitive Hoynes' choice of words was, you are not alone.


Sunday morning Tribe second baseman Jason Kipnis quote-tweeted Hoynes, adding "The don't bother showing up the rest of the way... Can write from home if you already know how this one plays out!" As it turns out, Hoynes did stay home on Sunday. He explained later it was a scheduled day off, and I fully believe that, but not everyone in the Tribe clubhouse was interested in explanations. Trevor Bauer, probably the team's most-active tweeter, and rarely one to sugarcoat what he's thinking, tweeted, "I noticed @hoynsie wasn't at the game today doing his job like the rest of us were. To say what he did and then not show up for work? #coward"

It's almost possible to read that as a joke, if only because that level of public criticism of a reporter by a player is pretty rare, but a few minutes later, in response to someone else speculation that perhaps Hoynes had taken Kipnis up on his suggestion, Bauer followed up with, "hopefully he doesn't come back. No one here has any time for his BS and no one respects him. He's not welcome here"


Those are very serious words, not so much for expressing Bauer's personal opinion on Hoynes, but for their claim to speak for the entire team. Now, that doesn't mean those words do actually speak for the entire team, but it seems highly unlikely that Bauer pulled that sentiment out of thin air. It also doesn't feel like Bauer's reaction is just about Hoynes' words from Saturday and absence on Sunday; this seems much more like something that's built upon a series of events, encounters, and discussions.


The role of a beat writer for a newspaper or website is generally pretty different from the role of a columnist. Columnists generally don't spend all that much time in the locker room, or speak with players extensively, and their columns tend to be opinion-based. Beat writers interact with players on an almost daily basis for more than half the year, and their columns tend to involve passing along factual information and perhaps some analysis, without much editorializing. In this case, Hoynes seems to have put himself out of bounds, and while he said Sunday night, "I wrote what I wrote because that's what I believe," what he believes isn't of much interest to the people he's responsible for covering during the season, especially if his belief amounts tothese guys have no chance, and his comments may interfere with his ability to do his job, and at the very least is likely to make for some awkward moments.


The Indians are off on Monday, but Tuesday they'll be back at Progressive Field, and Hoynes will be there as well. It will be very interesting to see what develops with this situation, as the team closes in on its first division title since 2007.

Bauer needs to worry about where his fingers are on a baseball more so than using them to tweet to a no name beat writer.

That game could have gotten really ugly after he plunked three of their players. I hope nothing happens when we make our way to Detroit.

Anyone watching yesterday could see Bauer wasn't trying to hit anyone. Who hits people with the bases loaded? He simply lost all command. Its also pretty well known that Tiger hitters think they own the inside of the plate, whereas Bauer knows that he has to be able to work inside to beat them. If they don't want to get hit, they should get their elbows off the inside edge of the plate. Heck, I've been waiting for someone to drill Miggy for 5 years, the way he wears us out.

Oh, I know that he wasn't trying to hit any of them. I guess my point was that he should concentrate on getting outs and keeping us in the game, not worrying about whether or not a beat writer shows for the game.
