Louisville is just abusing Florida State in every phase of the game.

Good observation. It was based off a pre-season list. I haven;t had the chance to watch much college football this year. I just tried to provide a list of Qb's to keep an eye on throughout the year.
Kiel got into the Houston game late. I don't know if it was as a last ditch effort at a comeback or mop up duty.
Mahomes is Texas Tech

At this point in their careers, I think he is better passer than Vick. He has a long way to go in regards to being a good passer, but he's made huge strides since last year.

My biggest concern is he seems awful lean. He was pretty good at avoiding getting hit square for the most part, though.
He made a pretty good Florida State D look pretty bad. They were missing their safety, but yeah, he looked impressive.

RGIII is 6'2", 218. Lamar Jackson is listed as 6'3", 205.
He wasn't getting hit square, I'm a little worried about him holding up if he had been. Maybe he never will be, but I find that unlikely. Maybe he'll hold up if he is hit, I just said he looks lean. It's a little question mark. He looked impressive.

They probably soaked him in bacon grease before weigh in.

Lamar Jackson has looked good but I'm not 100% bought in yet. I've seen him throw a few nice balls but...
This isn't really his fault but I'm waiting to see Louisville get challenged, I want to see him in a close game, I want to see him in a 2 minute drill where he has to throw the ball a lot and the other team KNOWS he has to throw the ball. So far every game has been so one-sided that it's hard to tell how he will respond if put in a position where the offense is struggling and he HAS TO make a play with his arm and his reads...

Other than Houston in the regular, season, we might have to wait until conference title games to see that.

I like Lamar, but he looks like Vick, good and bad. I'd take pre-dog fighting arrest Michael Vick. He was pretty good and no one was more fun to watch. Wasn't he the first QB to ever get a win at green bay in the playoffs?

Other than Houston in the regular, season, we might have to wait until conference title games to see that. Louisville has Clemson in a couple weeks.. their conference title game (if they get there) is likely to be Georgia Tech, Miami, or North Carolina... since Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville are all in the same division.. if they blow out Clemson, the next big challenge for them might be their final 4 game.

I think Lamar is an amazing player. He may well win the Heisman but I don't see his game transferring to the Pro game.

Brad Kaaya is growing on me too. He's the only top prospect to play in a pro style offense that forces him to play under center and make reads. His accuracy and decision making have improved as well. He's got a solid arm.
I'm not ruling him out. I like him more than Watson too.

I'm not ruling him out. I like him more than Watson too. Kaaya kind of reminds me of Weeden. He operates pretty well when he has a clean pocket, but completely loses his mind when he feels pressure. Miami v App. State just got added on draftbreakdown. His numbers look good, but he was operating with tons of time for the most part. When pressured he had an ugly pick, an intentional grounding, and several balls where he didn't even give receivers a chance with the ball sailing out of bounds. He did have a touchdown under pressure, but it struck me more as an exception. He chucked it and it happened to work out. Being able to operate when things break down seems to me to be an important skill when translating to the NFL that sometimes gets overlooked. Some do it through quick decisions (Brady/Manning), some do it through extending plays (Wilson, Rodgers, Roethlisberger), but you rarely see the successful guys panic. It's one of the things I like about Mahomes. His OL looks like a mess most of the time, but he still gets things done. He does try to do too much at times, but I haven't seen him panic.

Mahommes plays in a simple one read pass heavy spread. People said Carr panicked under pressure like his brother.

Mahommes plays in a simple one read pass heavy spread. People said Carr panicked under pressure like his brother. Carr did struggle with pressure, but he was never a duck and chucker. He lost accuracy, but his brain didn't seem to lock up. https://www.profootballfocus.com/warning-signs-for-derek-carr/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/pump-the-brakes-on-the-derek-carr-wandwagon/ Kaaya looked like he should have a giant Eeeek! bubble put on the screen over his head when he felt pressure. Mahomes makes plays after the designed play breaks down which seems to be a translatable skill. If you're taking out simple-read, pass heavy spread offenses are you taking out Watson and Kizer, too? A QB runs the plays that are called. Texas Tech doesn't have the OL to play pro-style. Mahomes doesn't have much experience under center, but that's not super hard to get used to. It just takes reps. He may not be known for making full read progressions either, but he seems to have a preternatural awareness of where his guys are at. You should check out his Rodgers-esque no look passes.

man so much of that pressure thing is from the USC game where the line couldn't block anybody and he played injured 3 1/2 quarters. It's like nobody watched any other of his games.

The PFF links were from his rookie year in the NFL. I agree it was overstated in the lead up to the draft. I watched the USC game after candy's post. Carr didn't seem to panic, he just missed.
Most QBs will be worse under pressure when their receivers are well covered.
Kaaya seems to panic.

My knock against Kizer and Watson is their spread offense. How many spread O QBs have to bust before people start realizing guys like Cam are not the norm?
You're using hyperbole with Kaaya

It's not the offense, it is the player. Mariota came from a "spread" offense.
Seems to panic is hyperbole?
Did you watch the whole App State game or just the highlights?

Did you watch the whole App State game or just the highlights? I'm not a Mariota fan at all. Not a good example to use against me. I've only watched Kaaya most of his entire career at Miami.

Roethlisberger and Flacco?
I'll watch more of Kaaya, but against App State he didn't seem to handle the pressure well the few times he did see it.

Any chance we can get Watson and Fournette?

Any chance we can get Watson and Fournette? We could technically probably do it, but it doesn't seem like something our front office would do. We have two pretty good RBs and it seems like our front office would not favor drafting one in the first round (which is where Fournette will go), especially in a draft that will be loaded with running backs.

Oh I doubt analytics would have us drafting an RB in the Top 10 no doubt..
I just can't stop picturing an offense consisting of
Watson Fournette Gordon Pryor Coleman
...seriously

I hope, as of right now, that we grab the best QB, and the best pass rusher. (preferably a guy who can play 3-4 DE, and still rush the passer) You know ..... like a young Steve Young and a young JJ Watt. If we can just get that in the 1st round of the coming draft, I'd be OK with it. lol
