Grossi: I heard the coaches wanted to bring in free agent kicker Robbie Gould but the front office wanted to bring in a lesser priced guy.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

It's been a revolving door of atrocity since Dawson didn't re-sign here ... and it cost us another game (not that another win means all that much)

Obviously, we'll be adding somebody soon again

If this is true, then this is a problem.

There's a difference between managing finances and being a cheap ass.

Obviously we want to make field goals but hell of effort by Parkey. Never practiced with us ..just signed yesterday. Not his fault #GoBrowns

Mine too and that surprises me. I was never a fan of his at OSU. He looked pretty good at QB today. Not that I want to swotch him back there. I don't. No real practice to speak of and he stepped right in.
He's really coming along at WR. Making the tough catches for 1st downs. Doing the little things right. Of course it's nice when he catches a long one. But all the meat and potato work is good to see from him! Coleman and Pryor are a nice one two punch! Hope the kid gets back soon!

We do need to settle the kicker position. Draft one or find a young one and keep him like we did with Dawson all those years ago.... Not like it's the staff or FO's fault our guy got hurt. Stuff happens.
Still, finding a long term answer should be on our list for next off season!

I didn't hear that but it's no surprise. These guys want to PLAY for Coach. Been a LONG time since we had that kind of leader.

yeah, there were a lot more good things today than the past two weeks IMO ... and pryor's attitude/effort/versatility was one of them

I wonder how much a win would have been worth to them... I know this team isn't going to the playoffs... But more fans spend money for a winning team... Couldn't have been that expensive to bring Gould in

The circumstance of his late signing aside, Parkey - and any kicker who has any business on the field - should be able to go 1 for 3 from 46 and in.

My guess is that the front office has assigned a value to what a kicker is worth. Gould probably asked for more than they were willing to go. Even if you have money to spend, it doesn't mean you should overspend. This is all about process.

With all that said, it is truly demoralizing to sign a worse player because of what is certainly not very much money in the grand scheme of things.

Is less money the reason they signed Parkay or is that just one of the facts about him? For instance, why is Gould even available? Parkay did make a ProBowl before being injured. Maybe they're thinking he's already proven himself and he is young enough to maybe stick as a long-term team member.

Nobody will ever know the truth, but I have a feeling the FO basically says "we spend X on a kicker" ... everything is a number value

I hope they do as well.

I think that Hue is one heck of a coach. He was my choice when it became apparent that Pettine was going to be fired. I really didn't think that he was going to come here after living through the circus the Raiders became after Al Davis died. Luckily, he was willing to come on board here.

OSU Adams crapped on Pryor too much for when he played. I was guilty of it at times. He had a successful run at OSU.

Do you think Hue will be okay with letting good players leave because of some arbitrary metric?

I witched, and complained like a jilted husband when we didn't resign Dawson. I am sure a lot of you remember that. I also told y'all he wanted to stay in Cleveland and it wasn't about the money it was about his family not about chasing money or a ring. I told all those he said he was old and done anyway that you were wrong, but did many of you ignore me.... yep.

I bit my tongue the other night when I saw stupid comments like
Kickers are the easiest guys to replace, just sign another one, anybody can kick, bla, bla, bla. I guess I have just given up on some folks ever learning that kickers, punters, and long snappers, are very important to a team. There are 53 players who are active every week, and all 53 of have to do their job in the NFL if they hope to win on Sundays.

This is the truth. Alot of positive things being said today about TP. He gave it his all. This kid would run through a fire and then a brick wall if asked or if it would help us win.

He's so dedicated and honestly, it has got to be infectious in the locker room there. Yes, TP is becoming a fan favorite and yea, rightfully so.

But our kicking situation... all I'll say is I never want to see that kicker again. I don't care if he just signed. You kick the ball through two uprights. There's no magic or playbook needed and the snaps and the holds looked good to me. No excuses, please cut him.

Agreed. Balled out.

Can he be taught to kick in one week? Pryor is doing it all! One outta four? Even a blind dog trips over more bones than that. But, hey, we battled.

Are we taking turns carrying STs or is somebody designated each week. Our secondary gave up a bunch. Tackling sucked again. Maybe we need a missed tackle over/under to go with the same for penalties. Big P owned that one Sunday.

Depends on where you look apparently. Very upsetting. He never got lined up right; don't think that just emerged. Kicking in Cleveland's win will be a problem, but not if he gets replaced.

Browns source says money played no role in decision to sign K Cody Parkey instead of Robbie Gould
By Nate Ulrich Published: September 26, 2016

A Browns source said money wasn't a factor in the franchise's decision to sign Cody Parkey over the weekend instead of fellow kicker Robbie Gould.

The Miami Herald cited NFL sources who said Browns special teams coordinator Chris Tabor wanted his team to sign Gould after Patrick Murray suffered a left knee injury in Friday's walk-through practice, but the front office decided Gould was too expensive and went with Parkey instead.

"Money played no role in the decision," the Browns source said Monday morning. "It's ridiculous to think that it would."

Parkey went 3-of-6 on field goals Sunday in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins. He missed attempts of 41, 42 and 46 yards. The miss from 46 yards came with no time left in regulation, and the Browns would have won 27-24 if he had made it.

Parkey signed a one-year, $525,000 contract, according to Spotrac.com. Gould would make $985,000 under the minimum salary for veterans with 10 or more credited seasons. The Browns have $57,309,161 in salary-cap space, according to the NFL Players Association.

The Browns source said the team chose to sign Parkey because he's young and made the Pro Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie in 2014. The organization's thought was Parkey, if successful, could be a part of its future because he's only 24. Parkey missed most of last season with a groin injury and lost a duel this year in Eagles training camp to Caleb Sturgis.

Gould, 34, was cut by the Chicago Bears on Sept. 4 after spending 11 seasons as their kicker. He made the Pro Bowl in 2006.

This doesn't fit what some may want to believe, and I'm completely open to all possibilities, but their reasoning does make sense. Having said that, Parkey has to go.
